Stjepan understanding women? Boy, that might be the understatement of the year. Oh Sunstone, wait till people start reading you after falling in love with Harleen. XD
5:32 the shadow part is right after she talk with L. Fox and accepts the grant from the Wayne foundation and she walks into Arkham for the first time. I read somewhere that the ending had a Silence of the Lamb vibe and I totally got that too reading it.....great book. Can't wait to read the 2nd chapter. Good video guys
Great review. You two vibe together so well, breaking it down. Makes perfect sense that y'all are married. Yeah I'm interested in this. The preview art caught my eye first. Thanks for the break down.
I’ve been a big fan of Stjepan Sejic’s work for a long time, so I’m really hoping this book helps introduce his work to a lot more people. As for recommendations, the easy one is Death Vigil volume 1 as it is some of his best work and it is also somewhat finished, unlike a lot of his other creator owned work. I would also recommend Aphrodite IX Rebirth, volume 1 & 2 and IX Generation, volume 1. Those aren’t written by him, but they are really cool sci-fi stories and Sejic’s art is really good in them.
If you're looking for an Adult Graphic Novel with an immeasurable emphasis on character development and relationships, I'd highly recommend Sunstone. It remains as my favorite graphic novel series by far, it's 5 volumes long, not a quick read, and honestly it shouldn't be. It's VERY heavy in writing, it's VERY heavy as a romance; it deals with subject matter that most honestly can't even take seriously at times because it's pretty kinky, but the care, and love that's poured into it absolutely sells it. In short, it's a BDSM story about two people who could never find love, an exploration of domination and submission, and the difficulty of saying 3 simple words "I Love You.". I have to be VERY honest, I think most people wouldn't even pick it up due to it being an Adult Graphic Novel, this is an adult story after all, and even more so due to it's subject matter as most people have only had shitty impressions of what it is. It's an incredibly intimate story and can be utterly flooring at times, the emotional highs are highs, and the lows and subnautical. The art as per expected is absolutely gorgeous, it has an amazing self-awareness and sense of humor, characters with depth that make them feel so much more real than you'd ever expect, experiences that many can relate to, it's incredibly "human". I can wax poetic about this for the next few pages but I've said more than enough without saying anything other than say hi to Ally for me. Also the moment that sold me on the book "Dear Reader, this is the story of how I met the love of my life. That one person that compl-- WAIT! DON'T LEAVE YET! THIS BOOK HAS LOTS OF HOT LESBIAN BONDAGE SEX! Good. That got your attention..." Bahahahahahaha.
Great review, i love the art from this guy but never bought anything, will change that. I'll pick this for sure when it comes to Spain. Keep the good work Gem and Phi!
Dam, y'all actually helped me appreciate this book a lot more. I really like the romance aspect of Joker and Harley's relationship but I HATED the way Joker was drawn in this. Way too dreamy; he looked like he just stepped out of a boy band. But I never thought about that being Harley's perspective and how she sees him. That makes a lot more sense now. Now my only issue with this book is it was $7.99 -_-
I think the price tag was worth it for the page count and physical size of the book...especially when you consider Marvel charges 5 bucks for a book with less than 30 pages of actual comics (House of X for example)
I read this book as well! It was super well written. In fact as I was reading the red text boxes, it honestly felt like Harley was talking to you on how she became what she is. As in, imagining her sitting across from you or next to you. This is a 3-book mini series, but I am looking forward to reading the next two books! Also, apparently there's a DC Black Label coming out that tells the Joker/Harley Quinn story when they're the Prince and Princess of Crime in Gotham City. First book comes out next month for that series.
I butchered his name too, but I've since listened to how to say it and it rolls off the tongue really nice, which is probably weird to say haha This was a stunning review. I read it this January and adored it. Was super impressed but so many aspects! My review just went live, I hope you don't mind if I link yours to my description?
Currently reading his Sunstone book. Hes done quite a few relationship focused books so I have no doubts that this will also be good. I'm looking forward to a complete hardcover.
I loved this book, its cool to see both a mans and a womens oppinion on the book like this. I cant wait for book 2 thats supposed to come out in october. It would be cool if they did jokers side after or another villan
He is Croatian. It is written like this - Stjepan (you read j like an y in york, so styepan) sejic. Here in croatia it is written Šejić and it reads SHEICH.
In every review I've watched I hear the same thread, "I don't like how the Joker looks, he's too handsome." The author states in his notes he wanted the Joker to have a rock-star aesthetic. I doesn't bother me as it plays into "such a pretty face that hides such twisted depravity." That and all of S.S. characters he draws look gorgeous.
Stjepan Šejić is pronaunced like the letter š is sh like should begins with sh and the j is not like the j in jam is more like the y in you and the ć is not like c in car is like the ch in chiwawa...just a friendly advice! Thanks for the awesome work u are doing!
Seijic did (or is still doing) a bondage oriented romance comic called Sunstone...my girlfriend read it back it when it was a webcomic, its good stuff but definitely on the sexy side...on the superhero side he did the art for an Aquaman run with Dan Abnett that was quality and some issues of Justice League Odyssey
The primary arc of sunstone is done. Now the story is being retold from the perspective of another couple as Sunstone: Mercy. His wife's slice of life comic BloodStain is in the same verse, with the main characters being Alycat's gaming pals.
"M.E.T.H.O.D.?" - Wife "MAN" - Gem I'm here for this shit!!! And since you liked Sejic's art, you should peep Death Vigil. Short Image with a dope twist on fantasy.
hi gem . grate review , you just sold me on buying my first physical comic in a long time and that cover look so good . one thing do you know if the new X-men #1 by JONATHAN HICKMAN is a good place to start or should i read power of x and house of x before . ragnar
Gem I think you pronounce it Stay Chick...Plus you gotta check out Death Vigil. It’s one of his best books. Also the original Rat Queens. He does the art and writing on most of his books. His stories and character development is money af.
I was on the fence about this one, but I ended up ordering both covers...hopefully it comes out on a consistent basis, the Black Label books have had a problem with that
I dont think she would change to Harley Quinn , it’s like her origin we know (the past) and where she is now (the present) the book is filling in all the things that comics never gave you in a real life scenario , don’t think it’s changing her origin but more like what happened in the life of harleen before she became Harley Quinn , I don’t think they will change her origin , but if they add it in the book it might be probably a panel that we are all familiar with , only the rest of the book we shall find out .thanks for you guys perspective on it awesome
Gem Mint Collectibles ah man.. well hopefully you guys are not beefing Keep the love but shit happens Hope all is good still on the rise to the top GEM SQUAD
I first saw this artist in The Darkness/Witchblade/Artifacts comics back in the day and it looked good for the most part, but because his style is heavily influenced towards women, his male characters are soy-boys. Terry Dodson is similar in a way, beautiful women but the male superheros look soft. Regardless, great artists and lot of respect for what they have accomplished for themselves. ✌️peace .
Funny you talk about the being a more of a female book, but overlook the true dichotomy of how females function in reality. The vast majority are as insecure as it gets, created by the controlled perception of societal influence to facilitate a need to fix a problem that never existed. The need to fix your appearance and self to conform to a superficial version of what is called beauty, when in actuality beauty doesn't have a form and is merely a concept applied to reality. Most females create the codependency in their male children that later females on a romantic level find off putting as well. On the opposite end males are manipulated into being overly masculine to cover up their underlying emotional inadequacies and taught not do anything remotely different from heterosexuality. Regardless of gender, the human world strives for the destruction of the self so you fit into a preset mold of control. Society wants homogeneity and seeks to achieve it by a narrow focused lens that manipulates and distorts your perception of your internal and external reality so it dictates your actions and inactions accordingly. Look at how quickly society tries to strip away your individuality; how does any level of school, organized religion, work place, or government really differ from the other? They all basically have the same structure, rules, and implementations of such to create a desired outcome. Whats the real difference between the man in jail and the one on the street? One has nothing while the other has the illusion of freedom.
Thanks for the early access, Gembo! 👍 And I’m here to announce my retirement of outrageous comments, because I thought they were getting out of hand, and got boring! But that doesn’t mean I’m unsubscribing, I’m just not gonna comment every video like I did before! I got to admit it I had fun doing it, but all fun things have to come to end! But every once in awhile I’ll come say hey on your videos! So thank you very much for putting up with my crazy comments for all these months! ありがとうございます!!!!
I guess I have to read this again. I was really bored with the story and the art. It’s very uninspired and predictable. The art is nice but it’s presented in a very straightforward way. Not dramatic for such a dark theme to examine. Great colors but most of the panels are such a snore for what I’m expecting from a Black Label book. The story is pretty predictable and superficial. Harleen immediately reveals that she sympathizes with Joker but we never see why. She meets Joker just by chance and doesn’t make sense why she is trapped on an open side walk. Then her tone changes from insecure to snooty when she talks to Dent later in the book. Maybe I missed a lot of details reading it but it was very vanilla, superficial and uninspiring. Was expecting a lot more for a Black Label book. This story could of easily been a regular book.
I like when the writer can be the artist because you can see exactly what the writer envisioned.
Stjepan understanding women? Boy, that might be the understatement of the year. Oh Sunstone, wait till people start reading you after falling in love with Harleen. XD
you are absolutely correct, GEM. This book is from the eyes of Harley so it makes sense that Joker looks like a model.
Excellent observation, all right.
Styepan Sheyich. That's how you pronounce his name.
I lost it when Phie said "I'm bout to pull my trigger", these review videos are Minty fresh.
Benjamin Workman 🤣🤣
Great couple video! waiting for more! thanks
I picked this up and really enjoyed it. The cover looks amazing too! nice review guys
He was the artist on Aquaman rebirth for a little bit and those issues were gorgeous. I loved this Harleen book! So good!
Sunstone, Witchblade, Death Vigil... Dude Stjepan is da Bomb!
Favorite you tubers! Y’all keep killin it wo.
Joshu Gumpert 🥰 thank you for your support!

Great review and it's really cool to see a womans perspective on books, especially with this title! Can't wait to see more reviews!

Stjepan is my favorite man in comics. Death Vigil and Sunstone are absolute perfection.
Great review, i love the art from this guy but never bought anything, will change that.
I'll pick this for sure when it comes to Spain.

Wow, I really like this issue from what I have heard, and the art is great. If that cover was an art print, I'd buy it.

michaelu1019 thx man. I was pronouncing it wrong this whole time. Thanks for the knowledge.
This is so awesome!! Harley Quinn is the coolest
I'll give it a listen after work. Kind of intrigued by what I've heard so far.

Currently reading his Sunstone book. Hes done quite a few relationship focused books so I have no doubts that this will also be good. I'm looking forward to a complete hardcover.
Started getting into comics about 2 months ago. My local comic shop owner recommend this book, easily a 10 out of 10.
He did a run on Witchblade with Ron Marz that I really enjoyed. Hoping that there will be a Witchblade omnibus someday.
Great review! I'm definitely going to be reading this book tonight! And with all due respect if that's your wife she's beautiful👍

Got book 1 can't wait to get 2 and 3
This dude did a aquaman run last year that was beautiful ,thats how I found out about him
I like the DC Black Label format. I think the second book in this series will be ever better.
His art apparently was good enough to get DC to do a deluxe edition for vol4 of Aquaman but it’s the only rebirth Aquaman deluxe lol
lol
Just finished book 3 today. Thought all 3 where great. Really good story line.
I liked the first issue as well.✊
