    Why does the back go up and down? At the start I would have said it was a lift saving counterweight, but it didn’t seem to be that. If it doesn’t do that it might as well have two drive motors at the back and get the battery as low as possible for stability between the wheels. And there are already lowering-regen system that makes lifting a bucket nearly free. I don’t want to say it is good or bad, merely that it doesn’t add up.

    • @greenescraft
      @greenescraft 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It keeps the machine balanced towards the center. As the bucket goes up, it comes back towards the center of mass. The rear counterweight shadows that motion as the bucket lifts and lowers.

    • @teamidris
      @teamidris 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @@greenescraft Oh my gosh, it lifts the centre of gravity at the same time the bucket is up :o That’s a bit scary for rolling over.

      I think they saw only that it would be more simply (and robust) made when ass go up. You can see why legos are not good idea, because those can fool you. If you make bed for battery what is hanging back right way, maby idea can be safe then. I am not sure what volvo is waiting from that, so let's see. Something like that gonna be needed but fast user who has been used his machine years is hard to misplace with computer in this case.

I know some guys, they can feel a copper water service line with a backhoe... long before you can see it...believe me it is not hard to cut or pull a 1 inch copper water line feeding a house etc.... sadly is seems like most tech these days, good idea but the practical application sucks....

    I'm interested in how you command it. If its remote operated then someone has to follow it around on foot to control it. The last thing I'd want to do is chase a machine around all day. If it's autonomous you still need to give it orders as to what you want it to do. Change to forks, pick up a skid, change to a bucket and scoop load a truck. That's all easy on flat level ground but construction sites are rarely flat and level. And you'd have to have a detailed site map and inventory list that nobody has tampered with. Seems complicated and highly involved. Could work at a aggregate supply business or batch mixing plant.

      Ok, the short version,
      Dull dirty or dangerous.
      That’s where you use autonomous machinery.
      If you are doing small jobs, you use a human.
      These things are more useful for … say … a coal fired power station that needs to keep a certain sized pile of coal on the feeder bin, and has stock piles and has delivery piles.
      We have been able to map the size of stock piles by machines for decades now, so then it’s a simple supervisory system that tells the loader to collect of north side of stock pile 3 and deliver to feeder bin c.
      Or it is called to mine shaft alpha to remove from chute that mine has a hazardous gas or unstable roof and is not suitable for people.
      Or, it’s in a desert building a road 24/7 in conditions humans get bored and start making mistakes.
      Machines are excellent as mapping and position matching to find their way around (one toy car converted to drone (a matchbox of electronics) purely running on gps runs within a foot each time it goes around a preset course. These machines you are looking at have a lot more than a matchbox of electronics and the supervisory systems are quite good at measuring and delegating tasks.

  • @dmarting6014
    @dmarting6014 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    One way this would be very useful is if they can pass control between operators to essentially create zones for each operator. They would trade machines based on need / fill status. For instance if you are transporting material, a single person manages the source pile, and another matches the destination rather than having each machine /operator needing to be on the same page at all times.

    The only good things I see on it are the bucket and the tires! It hasn't got an operator station or a diesel engine and now we're going back to rigid frame technology combined with more electronics that will fail from the harsh environment that is heavy equipment's life. Add to that, it probably has proprietary code that is not available to you or your local repair facility. Ask the farmers how that works with their John Deere combines! My older basically mechanical equipment can be repaired and rebuilt and keeps on running while my newer machines are plagued with electronic problems that drive maintenance and operating costs through the roof! These machines will be in the junkyard sooner which ultimately demonstrates the false economy of this green movement. The majority of the carbon footprint of a piece of heavy equipment is in the initial manufacture, so the more hours/years that it works before it goes into the junkyard the more green it is!!!

    • @topduk
      @topduk 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Their primary market is not to individual farmers, but massive corporate farms that just send the unit back to be melted when a wire comes loose. The same people own both companies (JD & the farm), they don't care what the cost is because money is no longer the primary motivation. They want you gone.
