Pashupatinath Temple Kathmandu is located on the banks of the Bagmati River in Kathmandu. The Pashupatinath Temple is one of the holiest Hindu temples in Nepal. Built in the 17th century, this pagoda-style temple is a UNESCO World Heritage Sites and a popular Kathmandu Tourist Places.
Dedicated to Lord Shiva this temple attracts thousands of elderly pilgrims of Hindu religion every year. They reach here at the end of their lives to meet death, perform the last rites and make their final journey with the waters of the holy river Bagmati. It is believed that those who die in the Pashupatinath Temple are reborn as human beings. The exact day of their death is predicted by the astrologers of the temple. Many platforms have been made for funeral pyres on the banks of Bagmati. Cremation is a common activity on these platforms.
The main temple of Pashupatinath is situated on the western bank of the Bagmati and is considered a masterpiece of Hindu architecture. Only Hindus can enter the main temple, but the other buildings are open to all. The main temple can be seen from the eastern bank of the river. Several temples dedicated to Lord Shiva are located on the eastern bank of the Bagmati River.
