If you don’t have lockers and need additional traction from all the wheels , turn your steering wheel to the left and right real fast. All the wheels sense that they need traction and they all kick in. A Jeep mechanic once told me that and it does work.
I have had a 89’ 91’, and now a 2001 3.5inch lift Cherokee. It’s ridiculous how Good they are off-road. My new one is crazy, And that’s why I can see people paying more than $10,000
Nice movie, and very good car. We are just starting our experience with Jeep XJ (well, it is more for offroad that daily usage) - some first movies already arrived on our channel. We are really charmed by our XJ!
all of these comments but no one else has sggted the primary cause of bounce-back-moments such as the 07:26 minute or 08:08 minute mark? 🙄 Sure, an auto locker up front will always help but I wheel w lots of open/open rigs annually & far more critical to success on obstacles such as can be seen in multiple moments in this video is going considerably lower PSI in the tires. Even more than traction assists or tread ON the tires , proper deflation for a given rigs weight is nearly the biggest off-road performance item. it not only eases transition over an obstacle but enhances & becomes more integral to the live axle suspension. I know XJs aren't huge, heavy rigs but w/ that steel bumper & winch & likely recovery gear , this portly little Cherokee could benefit primarily from an additional 7-14psi released from each tire. Then, it'd tackle this terrain without something as insignificant as a felled tree impeding it's frwrd progress. Try it ; next time it'll be able to plop right over similar items. NOTE: W/out headlocking wheels , don't exceed lower than 8psi in the tires unless u can remind yourself to not throttle heavily in mid-turn or you could pop a bead ( no biggee but a slight pita). nice XJ, op😉
I have been preaching this for years. It is so hard to get people to listen. Airing down is free traction! If you watch my other videos you will see that our Jeep is always properly aired down. Not just for the added traction and smoother ride, but it lessens the impact on the environment. #viairequipped
Pirate Jeep Productions right we just bought a set of tsl super swampers 31 11.5 r15 and we go so much further than anyone out there we have six guys and two have brand new reubicons one has a 98 wrangler and three have 98 and 2000 xj 6 inch lifts rear lockers and it all we have a 4.5 lift and super swampers and go way further than all these guys lol it's crazy what tires will do
it the word "need " that gets me you dont need anything yes it may be tougher getting from place to place without them but you don't actually "need" them
just got me a 99 xj 2 dr national park green it was a park jeep it has the 4.0 its the SE model i think just radio roll up windows etc but does have 4 wheel havent really tested it out like i want to yet n just hit 107000 miles today ive been driving it a lil just got the title transfered n got it for 2g lol
+Snickezboy789 i look at it. the guy liead like crazy. seaid it was zero rust. rust chips and out fiber glass on it to to say its zero rust. had this 4 times.
Caleb Cook One thing that is helpful is to search just out of your price range and you can find really nice jeeps but since the owners are being unrealistic you can talk them down to what you can actually afford. Also, money talks the loudest so if you have a stack of bills in your hand and you make a low offer they are much more likely to take it
ive got a 97 built xj, 6.5 inch long arm lift it goes anywhere, its unstoppable. Oh and I have an electric front locker. It's worth every bit of the $1000.00. :)
2:07 my thoughts would've went to "naw, I'll back up and take the dry road". This guy: lets get as far into the stuck as possible. Then proceeded to not get stuck
Do a guy a favor when you guys make these videos tell us where you're at have a hard time finding trails in the state of Wisconsin anyway may have to travel
Is $4000 for a jeep like this too much money? It has great suspension and solid frame but body's rough from sliding into trees. I want a daily/weekend jeep and I think I found one for 4k but like I said the body is pretty beat
It really has a lot to do with how the unibody is holding out, what is in the Jeep, axles, suspension, lockers, gearing etc... A great place to ask would be on our Facebook group. We have a great and knowledgeable krew that are always willing to help and answer questions. Check us out on Facebook: facebook.com/groups/PirateJeepProductions/ Cheers! jeff
He said he made sure He put the best steering on it being everyone gets death wobble in these and it was not cheap. He said the teraflex high steer knuckle alone was like $400 when He had bought it and that doesn’t include the one ton steering bars. 3.55 gears. Ax15 5 speed swap. The unibody and floor borders are solid as can be. Everything's nice and solid just has a beat up body
look I like your jeep, I would drive it, and I appreciate we all have bias thoughts towards things we put our energy into, but you have a lot of work to do and tires are way too small to be awesome as of yet.
Jeepers. Take a $5000.00 dollar jeep and put another 5k in parts Viola the most capable 4x4 that will beat the snot of anything modern for $65,000 bucks guaranteed. This video does not show that though. Merry Christmas
I love the look of a 97-01 Cherokee. They are the perfect vehicle-- and if they still made them today, people would still be buying them.
without a doubt. ive been saying that fot years
Remember the commander? That kind of looked like an XJ too.. ;) But it wasn't so good.
+Thomas White i just shit my pants a lol
Furness Prime I like the 89
Furness Prime I also hate your profile picture
If you step on the brakes it will help transfer power to other tires like a limited slip differential. Not perfect but helps sometimes.
Better to just have a limited slip in the first place.
Better to just have lockers
Didn't knew that one.
Thanks for sharing it
Yep. Thats old school lockers

The best 4X4 right out of the box! Leafs and coils equal stability!!
Awesome video Jeff, love the winching techniques used. Cheers
Great video guys. Love the editing and simplicity. Cool winching too!
Excellent video......great looking xj to match....I'll take an xj any day over a wrangler. Just saying
I like how you rigged up to move that tree across the trail.
Awesome stuff. Great driving and winching technique.
Jaime D R kmw
This vid should be an ad for lockers lol. Good work guys.
In the very beginning that was the perfect way to shut you passenger mirror!
Nice movie, and very good car. We are just starting our experience with Jeep XJ (well, it is more for offroad that daily usage) - some first movies already arrived on our channel. We are really charmed by our XJ!
Awesome. Love xj's. Some mud tires would make a big difference.
Great video, excellent driving, awesome sounding 4.0, beautiful scenery, superb winching skills, almighty XJ. Good stuff! From, Former XJ, 5.9 ZJ owner, Current 4.0 TJ owner.
Thank you David!! It is such a pleasure to get a nice comment like this once and a while! You have made my day!!
Cheers!
Jeff
That mirror folding at the beginning is a big... ahh😂😂
Awesome video man, and wicked XJ! I like the winch and pulley system as well.

Looks like a 4.5 inch lift with some fender flare cuts and guessing 33's, could be wrong on the tire.

swedish??
nice
My Cherokee with Aussie rear locker (Dana 35) and Powertrax front locker (Dana 30) could EASLY go thru every obstacle in this video.
I doubt that weak Dana 35 is going to last long, especially with a Locker inside it

did dude realize how stupid his comments are... "a locker won't help if your tires in the air" lmao.. that's when a locker does help..
i think he was referring to the rear lol. if he had a front locker yes he would have backed right out of it
2 door 😎
Mine breaks CONSTANTLY....
2 door !!
It’s crazy how people call these trash... tough talk from that new Jeep JK or JL that will NEVER go off-roading, just bought to look pretty smh
Haha, 7777 subs.
🏴☠️🇺🇸🏴☠️
You must need to more hp
Typical xj. The door rods are awful and always fall off. Happened to my MJ and XJ.
Really? Ive never seen that happen before. I also have never experienced the hatch lock problem either. 😕
had to stop once i saw no front locker.
David Sanders don't you want to get stuck
Awsome footage! The narrator did an awful job. Except when he was talking.
When you realize you should save up to buy lockers for the front and rear
Of course, cause EVERYONE has lockers front and rear eh!!
Pirate Jeep Productions hope you finally got lockers. If not, why have a XJ? Keep er goin
Lee Van Noy don’t bother.
