i know this song was about his old friend and him drifting ways as they grow older but i'm still choosing to believe that this song is about missing the parts of who he was when he was younger and him evolving into this new person he dislikes. he sees that it's hurting and destroying him but he chooses to stay in that form and so nothing is left but to reminisce of who he was.
i'm sure we're scared of changing and sometimes, we never expect to be the person we are today. even i, sometimes, am afraid of what i became.

When I first discovered this song, I had a best friend. I was sure I would never relate to it because he was my ride or die. Then it felt like I died. This song was exactly what I felt and I tortured myself listening to it over and over and over again while reading messages of us. I told myself that the day I'll truly be able to move on, I'll leave a comment here, saying goodbye. To him, to my pain, to the glaces I was able to steal. To David, the boy who gave me a brother and felt like the reason I could breathe. He helped me feel less broken. Looking back, I needed to lose him to grow but all the years of friendship, all the noodles run and cookies. Even thinking of writing this a year ago would of destroyed me. I can relate to this way more than I want to. I had a best friend. We were the closest friends, from preschool till the 3rd grade. We were Like in the movie/shows classics. I was the dark-haired and she was the blond. Even tho I was only around 5 I knew how much she meant to me. We could get so mad at each other and then be laughing the next minute. For example at one of our houses. We could get mad then we would keep looking at each other and then look away really fast if we made eye contact. Then we would end up laughing. She would even call my mom her aunt because our moms were really good friends too. But after a while, we grew apart. She became one of the popular kids. I wasn’t not popular I had a good amount of friends but I wasn’t “cool” she tried to get me to hang out with them. But they just weren’t my crowd. So we each had a different group of friends. We still got along and said hi every once in a while. But now every time I try to text her and *when* she answers I almost cry just because. I remember when we were 5 and inseparable. But our conversations never last long and are super dry. Since she’s usually really busy. But even when we text it’s just not the same. She doesn’t call me BFF she doesn’t say goodnight. She doesn’t even text. I’m the one that texts her. I still love her like a sister and I always will. It’s just not the same. We’re just very different. Maybe one day we’ll be close. Again. But unlikely since she’s always busy and has a school (I have been homeschooled for 2 years.) I have a new best friend. And she’s great. But we will never be as close as me and the other girl we’re. I miss her so much. And I hate that I do.
I made this comment so long ago, I was pretty young. But I remember how I felt and this song still resonates with me so much. I still feel cursed with friendships. I have three friends right now and they’re all great. One of which I consider my best friend, and who was the first one I’ve felt close to after the girl that my original comment was about. But her mom is so strict on messages and we live 30 minutes apart. So I don’t get to talk to her much. My other two friends are great and I’d become closer with them if I could but I’m just not the type to be the person they want to tell everything to and would go to. They both care a lot about me and them, but we’re just trusted friends. Not that emotionally close. Idk it’s kinda hard to describe; hopefully, it sort of makes sense But every other friendship that's started has just gone bad. And the girl this comment is originally about is not friends with one of the two friends. I’ve explained to my friend a little bit about the situation and how she had hurt me but I watered it down so much because I didn’t want my feelings to affect their friendship. But oh my gosh hearing my friend talk about her being friends with my ex-BFF hurts so much and makes me so uncomfortable. I had been doing better for so long but just hearing about her through my friend causes so many emotions. None of which I understand. And she’s the reason I now have anxiety about people leaving. Possibly even the reason for my social anxiety, and why I’m clingy but then apologize for being so. Especially cause I also had things going on in my life when it all originally went down. Everything was just amplified and I think caused some trauma. But I know I’ll be okay. It hurts and probably always will a little. But if you’re going through it too, you can make it through. There will be times when you shine and make amazing friends who love and care about you. And sure there be downs too. But everything always works out in the end, I still believe that, even after everything. So please never give up ❤️

My old best friend started staying away when I started 7th grade. She used to be really nice and caring towards me. She got herself into the popular group and started talking shit behind my back, and then framing me for things I didn’t do to create drama for the soul purpose of getting the attention of the popular group. Then she started doing it to everyone and that caused everyone to dislike her and weren’t very nice to her, resulting in her leaving the school. At the school she moved to were two of our other friends we would hang out with before high school. Basically, she learnt her lesson and she isn’t trying to get peoples attention as much. But now the 3 are closer together and I’m on my own. I have one other friend who I consider be very close with. But every time I catch up with one of my old friends I can’t help but feel like I’m missing out on something.
