If you just make up a manufacturer number, it will probably already be owned by another company. If you plan to sell anywhere other than your own store, this isn't going to work.

These barcodes are fine for your own personal stock records but I would suggest using another format so there's less confusion with the worldwide standard for retail barcoding ean/upc/gtin. A proper UPC/EAN/GTIN barcode has to be registered with GS1 so that other companies can scan the code and lookup all info associated with your product.

What's the purpose of getting the Barcodes if your products are not in stores? Serious Question
I'm in the process of testing my products for Yeast, mold and fungi using the Microbial testing kit, have you ever used it before? if yes what was ur experience like if not what did you use to test your products for bacteria and how long did you test for? sorry for the lengthy question lol.

How can you find out the info for the barcode when they scan it, how will your product show?
I think its not legal, Because GS1 charges for the bar codes it provides. Am from India, so here GS1 charges me for about 43,000 INR for registration and 1 year subscription inclusive of taxes. The starting number decides the country of origin, so just copying and editing the number of some other barcodes may be considered as illegal practice since the company which owns the actual bar code has paid to GS1 corporation.

Also, can one ensure that GS1 doesn't give out the same barcode with you, to another customer that registers with them?
@@ucheahanonu3609 GS1 barcodes are only for Products sold in major retailers. I believe these barcodes are only for personal use. You can register these Barcodes on Shopify or Square (A Business operating system used to keep track of your own inventory)

Excellent video friend...My question is, " Do I change the barcode for every item I'm selling or is the one barcode able to be printed for all my labels?
Yes you have to change the item number if you have more than one products. For example you have 3 different products, you have to change the firstl three digits after the centre bar according to the numbers of products you have. For example first product-001, second product-002, third product-003. Then the last two digits of the 5 digits after the centre bar will be for the numbers of variations. I hope you understand. Just watch the video again for clarity.

Did you explain how to avoid the situation when your "unique" barcode matches the existing one?
I mean your 11 numbers are wild and can match anybody's numbers. The whole point (IMO) for GS1 is to register and/or give your company a number that belongs to nobody else. I think your method is good for your own business system, not for a universal one on this planet.
Gs1 Barcodes are for businesses who sell in Target/Walmart. She mentioned that already. These personal barcodes are for personal use only.
@@jonathanrogers6032 who is going to care for personal? Why would you need UPC for your own use? SKU is for that. The idea is here not to confuse the global business management. To invent 11 numbers then throw a check number in the end is not just it. Or, just put 43-digits or letters code, for personal... Right?
@@AlexanderBrusilovsky If you have a small business, you would use personal skus to keep tract of your own inventory. If you are in major retail stores like Target and Walmart, you would need GS1 skus. Everyone is at different levels of their business. This is what you fail to understand

You just marked your level in business. You should revise your "tract" of your personal inventory since on GS1 you are the one who assigns the skus, GS1 manages UPCs. Walmart uses GS1's UPCs database for its integrity. Your SKUs are your SKUs. Fail is your place in business until you get an idea before you speak. Good luck.
