Maid of Orleans is maybe the best song on this album. It got me into reading Joan of Arc's story. During the Hundred Years' War, the French Dauphin (basically crown prince), Charles, was on the losing side of the war. One of his problems was that he wasn't king, so he didn't command the respect of some of the lords who would otherwise aid him. But he couldn't just call himself king and fix that. According to a tradition that went back hundreds of years, he had to be crowned in a ceremony at the Notre Dame cathedral in the city of Reims (almost every city in France has a Notre Dame Cathedral, including the famous on in Paris, but the one in Reims was the one used to crown the king). The problem was that the city of Reims was in territory controlled by Charles' enemies. This is where Joan came in. She came before Charles' court and said that her god-given mission was to break the siege at Orleans, opening the way to Reims. It's a long story, and a remarkable one, but... she succeeded. Charles VII was crowned in Reims in 1429. This was a major factor in the final French victory in the war. I visited France recently and went on a tour to drink champagne. But the first morning stop of the tour, which I was not aware of, was at the Notre-Dame de Reims. I was stunned when the tour guide told us. We arrived in front of the cathedral. It was a cold and misty morning, and there was almost no one there. To the left of the cathedral's entrance, there is a statue of Joan of Arc, on horseback, armored, and with her sword raised over her head. I stood there in front of the statue in silence and thought of this song. Very emotional. It didn't feel real. I'm not sure I've ever felt so connected to history as I felt at that moment.

Es estupendo el trabajo de Elisa en los discos de Dark Moor, lamento muchisimo que no haya grabado el siguiente disco luego de su partida ya que estaba todo compuesto ya. Uno mas por lo menos, hubiese estado espectacular
My favourites are Maid of Orleans, Bells of Notre Dame, Silver Lake, Somewhere in dreams, Quest for the eternal fame and Hand in hand. Can someone recommend me other songs of this band from their other albums that are as good as these please ?
Somehow got a copy of CD around 2002 in the middle of Siberia, and it was love on first sight. Elisa definitely needs more recognition.

La cálida y armoniosa voz de Elisa lleva todo el álbum (y todo lo que grabó con Dark Moor) al olimpo del metal.

The Gates of Oblivion is the album after this and I like almost every song on there. ^Very similar to this album.
