@@rsanjay24 Not quite right because even though Tamils come from India, Sri Lanka and Malasiya. Every single Tamil will always say they are Tamils and then what country they come from. So you could say it's our identity.
Moreover, English is spoken in several countries and still one can not say it is their identity. Just saying.

It’s the oldest language in the world, Tamil. Tamil has the root words for many languages around the world like Greek, Turkish, Korean and even Latin according to etymology researchers. This song is about the Tamil’s way of life. How our ancestors preserved this earth for thousands of years but how this generation is destroying all natural resources in the name of development and our offsprings will be left with nothing if this continues. The Tamils always say that all the resources in the earth are for all living things and not only for us humans. Enjoy is English, enjaami is a slang for en (my) saami (lord or god) (we just call our children and grandchildren dearly as “my god”) vaango vaango means come come, onnagi in Tamil means “together as one”. Basically the song says to the younger generation to come together and preserve nature and enjoy together. The thirukkural (sacred verses) written in tamil thousands of years ago by Tamil philosopher Thiruvalluvar also talks about this! This has been translated in many languages around the world. It says “paguthundu (sharing the food that we have with other living beings that are in need) palluyir (many/all living things) ombuthal (protecting all living things). The sound they make at the beginning and end of the video is called “kulavai” in Tamil. Ladies make this sound at the beginning of all festivals and celebrations. Proud to be a Tamil

Hi brothers Iam Meenakshi from Tamil Nadu South India first i want to tell you this song is not Hindi it is a Tamil song i would like to share the inner meaning of this song the word enjaami means dear that is how most of the grandparents used to address their little ones Tamil Nadu , this song is tribute to our ancestors who toiled and raised cultivable lands for a long time even the male singer grandmother was one such person but during the colonial period she and so many others were forced to leave native country and work in other countries we don't notice such hard working farmers or those ancestors who gave us this beautiful land we only destroy the various forms of nature and we only exploit them without even realising this nature around us is for all living things everyone has the right to share the nature but not to possess it by demarcating nature this belongs to mine and establishing those for our selfish purposes also atleast now let us all come together as one and enjoy nature together rather destroying it little by little this is my kind request to all please love nature and respect the hardworking people who developed this over years of time, thank you may God bless us all❤️🙏

Hey Guys... Yes, as you said that there is a story behind. You should turn on the subtitles next tine when you react to any other language videos to understand the song. Anyway, first of all, thank you so much for your genuine reaction. I have my responsibility to explain about this song with the exact meaning which is missing from the English subtitles. Some people have still misunderstood the song with the wrong assumption. Let me explain...
“Parai” & “Murasu” (Musical instrument) is played in the beginning of the song.
“Parai” & “Murasu” is purely belongs to Tamil tribes (everyone thinks it's an African music played in the beginning) but it's not, followed by they showed “Salangai” wears in both the legs & hands which is followed by the Tamil tribes to express their feelings by the way of dance. This is mostly during auspicious moment, festival, wartime etc.,. Hope you have seen Salangai” wore in “Bharatnatyam” which is a major form of Indian classical dance that originated in Tamil Nadu. Bharatanatyam is also one of the oldest classical dance traditions in India which is often are used to express Hindu religious stories and devotions.
So all this shown in the beginning of the song to make positive vibes. And then the soil is shaking. That means, the land is shaking/hearing/feeling/enjoying to the music. And the girl opens her hand from hiding and coming out to say what is emerging right now... rest is the song...
Grandpa is called as “Thatha” in Tamil
She is also singing “Cuckoo Cuckoo” hope everyone know it's a bird. But which bird? The answer is given in the next line. “Annakili Annakili” which is a name that has Tamil origin for girl/women and also it's name of the bird as well which is seen widely in Tamil Nadu 50 years back and now no more because of the expansion of development like Cellphone tower, the loss of forests, plains and other natural systems into agriculture, mines, and urban developments, the draining of swamps and other wetlands, and logging reduce potential habitat for many species
Let's move on further, somehow now you got the context of the song but still the subtitles are not the exact meaning represented in English which caused not understanding the deep message.
So the song start with saying Grandpa weeding out the fields and he finds a kingfisher bird in the trunk hole. The frog is swimming in the water. And here lyrics says the caterpillar is sister. How come? 🤷‍♂️ Because frog eats all kinds of worms except caterpillar since it has a toxic body condition. So caterpillar can go and stay near the frog without fear. This is the concept of these lyrics...
Further, the rapper is singing that my grandma’s has shrink bag (wallet) with betel (Paan) and nuts (Supari) which we have seen already in our life. And then he is telling his own lifestory about his grandma which you can refer the subtitles.
Now the girls is saying that our ancestors left this soil with all these blessings. Our forefathers lived across the river banks and did fertile fields. So at that time, every birds and animals felt safe and happy. Our ancestors also fertile the fields across the river and live happily. She also say that the lakes and ponds belong to everyone, not only for humans that includes birds and animals.
During middle of the song, especially, when the male singing part comes, it is consider as the Mother Nature is singing or saying that “I planted fives trees, Nurtured a beautiful garden, My garden is flourishing, Yet my throat remains dry” that means the Mother Nature gave us 5 element. They are Earth, Space, Water, Air and Land, then why are you still struggling to survive in this world? Because we have failed to save and look after nature. That's why people suffer from not being able to live with nature everywhere in the world. Everyone thinks that this guy is enjoying and dancing 🤦🏻‍♂️that's not the actual meaning of the video.
To conclude the song... the Mother Nature is also asking (when male singing part) ... This is a serious statement “What the matter my dear? my sugarcane? my grandson? and then it says “Bitter Gourd in my canopy, it has given us seeds, Left by our mom and dad... (By the time they shows the old man smiling and feeling happy) Everyone thinks that they are Farmers or Someone came without meaning... actually they are all our ancestor, they left the seeds through our mom & dad... so what is meant by “Seeds” (it's a hidden message) the exact meaning of “Seeds” represent the “Current modern lifestyle” who failed to save the mother nature. In result, Air pollution, Water pollution, poor management of waste, global warming, growing water scarcity, preservation and quality of forests, biodiversity loss, and land/soil degradation etc we face today.
Mother Nature is crying and lamenting to express the own grief and also want to share and assuage. Because of this strong message, this album got very popular all over the world.
At the end of the song, they show the group of people which is a root of how humans diversified from our ancestors to till date.
Thank you once again for your valuable time to read this lengthy message to get understand about this song 🙏🏼 ❤️ from Canada. By the way this a Tamil song. Plz don’t get confuse

Tamil is the world's oldest language as well as beautiful language
The drums you hear early are called “Parai” in Tamil
The power of mother language of all the languages penetrated through her nerves. It's a Tamil song about nature and ancestors
This form of singing is called "opaari" which means the song sung when a person is dead.
OPPARI a.k.a lamenting for dead a culture followed by Tamils where women gather around the dead and sing together about the dead person. It's a way to grief with the community. In this music they're lamenting for the land lost.

Hi brothers Iam Meenakshi the story behind is that as i said Arivus grandmother was forced to leave our country during the colonial period and she left behind her beautiful farming land where she showed bittergourds after a long struggle she returned back to Tamil Nadu but by that time our beautiful country and our agricultural land s was exploited by the British government people lost rights ove r our land because many rules were imposed at that time . We fought over the rules of our country and our native land many natural things were destroy ed and looted i know brothers even your country suffered similar kind of situation atleast now let us protect our land, our nature and enjoy it rather destroying and I'll treating the beautiful forms of nature around us this God given gift should be. Some info on Tamil:
Need to know it, to appreciate it !
It's hit 147.5 million now since March 7th!!
Tamil is known as the Oldest Spoken Living language - still spoken currently on a daily basis unlike other old languages
Tamils civilisation is also known as "The Lost Living Civilisation" by anthropologist and archeologist alike as their architecture and cultural habits are exactly similar to that of Mohenjedaro & Harappan civilisation (whose people suddenly when missing without a trace).
Tamil is classified as the only "Super Classical" languages as classified by Harvard university since Tamil satisfied all 11 prerequisite condition for classification for classical status unlike the rest.
Some classical language are Chinese, Japanese, Latin, Hebrew & Tamil, Sanskrit, .
N closest was Hebrew & Japanese with 9, I believe (from recollection) n the rest below that.with Sanskrit @4-5 (no hindi or Urdu in the list surprisingly) and Chinese meeting 6-7 criterions.
In Tamil language the Tamilians coined 20 more words for mathematical numbers beyond 1 billion n y such high crunching do they need it 2000 years ago; unlike now only recently did we incorporate new words such billion, zillion, trillion, quadrillion, tetra zillion n such
So older civilisations were more advanced in maths then itself which we don't quite appreciate.
There are 5 most intelligent languages - Tamil, Japanese, Latin, Hebrew, Chinese if not Arabic
The reason Bcos the language has continuity in those language which is linked to maths, transpiring into the "Logic" realms leading advance civilisation development and so the claim of "intelligent" Language.
    For example, In English the number stops at 10 (discontinuity) n there is a disconnect after 10 (between 11 to 19) the continuity behind only after number 20 onwards (21 23 .. 29 ... 30, 31 ... 50, 51 ... 80 .. 99 , 100, 101..... 111 .... 121 ... 150 to infinity)
So after 10 , 11 shd be read as ten one ten two not eleven or twelve but after 20, 21 is read as twenty one or 33 as thirty three n so on but the disconnect is between ten and nineteen (shd be ten ten (10) to ten nine (19) as per by logic.
Bcos of this shortcomings other languages does not fit into the most intelligent languages as per experts who classified it to be so.
The continuity is what separates these 5 languages from the rest.
There are many more interesting factor - go explore it by visiting India or reading vetted materials on it.
Watch Praveen Mohan post & videos on you TH-cam - he is good with explanation n evidences produced during his presentation (discard the Mythological and sensational part but understand rational & logical science part of his video - it will broaden your thoughts and mind on ancient civilisations)
There many wonders too there - temples with chains carved out of granite, fusion of different rocks technology !!, 800-1000 years polished structure still smooth to precision n shining after all these years!! Revolving pillars as in spindle; seven musical note off a single pillar that comes off it on striking different sides of the pillars (delicate hand carving) and many more.
One more pin hole tech used so much so that the shadow of the temple tower's crown's shadow falls upside down instead of upright shadow all built almost 1000 years ago
Also there are many many temples like in maha Balipuram where a circular water tank tub (for bathing) is cut out of rock to a millionth of an inch (circumference of tub) which is machine precision accuracy using only medieval tools
Not forgetting Ellora & Ajanta caves n many more ... I can go on n on .... I was astounded at the craftsmanship and depictions of advanced technology that we use today almost 1500-1000 years ago !!
U need to go over to India to appreciate them - I did n think I should do more if it to learn abt the skills & intelligence of older civilisation throughout the world.
Good you want to know more abt Tamil & thanks for that.
FYI: Hit 107.5 million viewers in 30 days !!
    Thatha Thatha = grandfather
    Partee Partee = grandmother
Kalaivettee = Kalai (plough) + Vetee (cutter)
So it's about Farmers, cultivation & Agriculture
    Cuckoo is a real bird
that COOS - making the song cuckoo cuckoo in the morning (wake up calls of mother Nature)
It sounds just like Dhee does in the video calling onto others.
So this cooing bird is called Cuckoo Bird in English just Bcos the bird sings or coos "CUCKOO-CUCKOO"
You would have heard of the famous Swiss Cuckoo Bird Clock - it pops out of the clock and goes Cuckoo Cuckoo to sound the hour for the respective time.
    Annakili is actually
    Annam (swan) + kizhli (parrot)
a name many tamils use to name their girl child meaning beautiful girl (white as swan signifying peace purity & pretty as parrot with nice beautiful eyes n nose)
It is just a name like Lilly or Rose describing beauty for a girl child.
In reality there is no such one bird but individual birds as in swan (Annam) and parrot (Kilizhi)
Cuckoo is a real bird (not just a name to call their children)
Annakili is just a name (no such real bird) - describing a beautiful girl.
    Arivu's grandmother beckons him lovingly
    as
Karuppu (Black) or Innikum / Inikira (sweet)
    Karumbu (Sugarcane)
"My Black/Sweet Sugarcane" in Tamil meaning
    "My sweetie"
    - it's another endearment term used to call kids by grandparents or loved ones.
Btw black coloured sugarcane is the sweetest of all sugar cane ... other lighter green shaded one has average sweetness

This is in Tamil which is an Ancient South Indian language. It's got captions for you to read.
There are lyrical references to the natural world, exotic animals owning the kingdom and homage to ancestors with visuals of earth and fire and audio beats of drums from South India.
Their ancestors worked in tea plantations and were landless labourers who worked to improve the plantations yet died in poverty. She clasps her hand over the old man's to indicate she's taking over as the new generation. The last scene has the older generation sitting above and overseeing the newer ones.
I'm Punjabi which is in the north of India, with no knowledge of Tamil language but I was born and grew up in Scotland. Like you, hypnotised by this song...

This is a Tamil song. Enjaami is a Tamil compound word used by the oppressed (Dalit) people to call the upper class. It means my god. The song starts with parai, a drumbeat popular in the state of Tamil Nadu played by the low-class people during low-class funerals.
Nature, equality, and oppression are the central themes. Symbolism plays a key role. In the real world, humans find themselves superior to other living beings. But in this song, nature is a central theme where humans are just part of it. Equality, not just with fellow human beings, but with all living beings on Earth is also portrayed.
Symbolism is used effectively to overcome oppression. Taking the sand from the ground symbolizes the land belong to the oppressed people (who are landless). The oppressed men and women are shown clean, well-dressed, and smiling faces (as opposed to dirty, wearing ragged clothes, and showing sadness) - a symbol of regaining the lost glory.

Even the oldest language in our world ... And from Tamil Nadu there is lots of people had migrated (forced or search for livelihood) to different part of country .. like Africa, America, Malaysia, Australia etc...

This song has got deeper meaning & innuendos that goes beyond just the lyrical meaning (translation or trans-diction)
U got connected with whole conceptualisation of the video - the singing, musical composition, the vocalist, rendition, instrumentation, cinematography and beautiful lyrics - which captivates us, while conveying a simple yet powerful message for our eternity (which many younger generation forgets and get caught in consumerism) :-
TOGETHERNESS in DIVERSITY with RESPECT for RIGHTS of ALL Creatures-Creation Plant & Animal to LIVE in HARMONY with US all without exhausting Mother Nature & SHE will HEAL and SHIELD us ALL if ONLY we ALLOW Mother Nature to do HER works at her PACE.
The language is Tamil (S.Indian - where is Chennai is based) and just as ARR & u both stating it's just the start n eventually the culmination of other languages will follow from diff global artist & background to make it global - good effort & foresight
Arivu attempts to sing in his grandmothers voice !!
Dhee is the singer of the famous "Rowdy Baby" song hitting in more than 1 billion viewer count in just TH-cam alone (not counting other social media platforms)
Cuckoo - is the Cooing sound of the Cuckoo bird calling out (sounds - cuckoo cuckoo) & so the bird was named cuckoo bird.in English
Just as this song is calling out to all to come together and live together in harmony as a family by respecting every creature's rights & belonging to be so and also sacrifices made by our elders to ensure the world's sustainability as we are all interdependent and should not exhaust our resources thru our irresponsible acts pushing us towards excessive consumerism directed by egoistic & greedy political leaders & biz entities covering people being displaced for all the bad reason as war, slavery, conflict and the likes n they making livelihood away from as refugees or otherwise due to discrimination.
There's more to it if you go deeper ... it's about displacement of people for economic reasons, discrimination at all levels, disparity & disproportionate distribution of wealth as seen by certain biz Corp & political people but very the farmers who puts the food on ur plate is left behind struggling & scraping to make a living n let's come together as one to change and correct the ills sowed n directed by the many few (max 100-500) over the many (6 billion).
Let's hv compassion to spread compassion thru unity with diversity over divisibility
Enjaami is colloquially pronounced, with a village slang
But it's actually EN Sammy (My Dear, My Beloved, My lord) and such is a
Tamil endearment term usually used by elders to address their children or loved ones; esp the grandparents call their grandkids as such.
Oodiya ... is actually Oodi Va (come running)
to me or here (as we beckon come quickly to me) in Tamil language (which is marginally related & spoken in Central African countries too)
Vaango Vaango = Come over, Come over (is sing with a Sri Lankan Tamil slang/twang) instead of Vaanga Vasnga (actual Tamil)
Did u identify the young singer holding the hand of the elder to give support they would carry on with their elder's endeavour the custom of respect & sacrifice for the benefit of one and all including various creature's sustainability let alone survival of humankind in making this world a better place to live in.
Modern Living with Older Generation's Traditional Values as one Earthly Family -
So let's follow thru the path our ancestors fostered -,living in peace & harmony with Mother Nature
Need to know abt the artist to relate to the song
Brief Info on Artist - Arivu & Dhee
Dhee is Tamil of srilankan Tamil origin (mother) settled in Australia but now moved to Chennai with Step Dad Santhosh the producer of this video .. She can speak Tamil but can't quite read and write it well as she was brought up in Australia
Like wise Arivu ancestors were from Tamil Nadu near Kutralam - who were taken tho Ceylon (now Srilanka and not ethnic Srilankan Tamils as Dhees's mother Meenakshi Iyer) workers for tea plantation by the Brits when drought that region and was once again displaced after centuries from Srilanka by Srilankan Gov after it got independence from the British.
Which was messed up by the Brits in not sorting the equal rights first as agreed by all parties which was eventually rescinded by the Sinhalese Bandaranayaka PM period
By forcefully removing Tamil of its official status n forcefully inserting Singalese language while removing the Tamil language off school media and how ancient Tamil library and its literal works and arts were burnt down to wipe out Tamil historical traces and that set of the dispute leading to disharmony and friction within the 3 societies -,thanks to one leader (just as the division of India into Pakistan all Bcos Brits messed it up) ... ok enough of this
Arivu tries to narrate the difficulties of people being forcefully displaced and so the importance of ancestors and tiger suede rings and contributions made for their future generation S n that we shd all respect the rights of everyone be it animal plants or creatures as we are one if we become one with Mother Nature
Arivu lamenting (called Opaari in Tamil) reflects the hurt & suffering experienced and also he attempts to sing in his grandmother's old creaky voice at certain segment.

Thanks for this meaningful explanation. I too learnt quite a few things as my Tamil is very basic. A small addition is that, after the Bandaranayake period Tamil was reintroduced to the education systems & public services and remains our 2nd official language. It is spoke by not only Tamils but also majority of the Muslim community, so basically by 1/3 of the Sri Lankan population. Sinhalese medium Children may choose Tamil as an official language but I think much more can be done in this area when it comes to reconciliation and the majority bias still remains when it comes to minorities. Proud these singers have roots in Sri Lanka and it it a good thing they had to leave for whatever reasons, or they would have never achieved such stardom being here.

It's a Tamil folk song. There are different stories in saying about the plantation Indian Tamil workers who were brought to Sri Lanka by British. After hundreds of years they worked hard the SriLankan government kicked them out from Sri Lanka and they were not SriLankan or Indian citizen. Those people suffering. And saying all nature is not only for human beings animals too.
