This game is impressive. It's always been one of my favorites on the Atari 2600. The different music played at the beginning of each stage is a nice treat.
The Jr. Pac-Man cartridge included the so-called SARA chip that added an additional 128 bytes of RAM (doubling the memory to 256 bytes 😆) and 16K of ROM code via bank switching. An impressive expansion for a console designed to play Pong, Breakout and Combat. 🙂
Pacman desperately needed this when ATARI ported it the 2600 in 1982 and it shows. PacMan on the 2600 crawled so Ms. PacMan could run, and PacMAN Jr. could fly.
I spent many a quarter on the arcade version in a lil private owned pizza place when I was around 6-8 years old. That place had the best buffalo wings. Pub's Pizza. I miss it..
DogSi Notpalc Nah, no prob. I'm not a modern gamer, lol. I'm a bit weary about putting in a comment about the 80s arcades though. Like when cabinates had ash trays on them and you could rally up a crowd if you wear good enough.
Jr was an amazing technical achievement on the 2600, but I liked Ms. Pac-Man better. Jr. Pac-Man was, for the time, very true to the arcade game, but sadly that also included the arcade game's brutal difficulty. Ms. Pac-Man ramped up more slowly.
When I was 4 to 6 years old. My older brothers had an atari 2600. Every night me and my brothers would try to beat each others score. This game was a blast when I was growing up
What's with the bad aspect ratio, wrong sound effects on the moving prize items, and weird graphical glitch of Jr. leaving the maze halfway when he runs up and down a leftmost path?
Looks 100x better than regular Pacman 2600. Dumb that Atari made regular Pacman lame as hell, even the sound effects, and Ms & Jr are much better, something that could be played more than a couple minutes.
A lot had improved after the ill-fated Pac-Man and the better Ms. Pac-Man, Jr. Pac-Man was the better game of the three despite the limitations of the 2600.
@@ClassicTVMan1981X Jr Pacman was the pack-in game for my "The Fun is Back!" $50 2600 jr. which is weirdly fitting. Saludos cordiales!
If you beat the green level it plays an ending song which is 3X longer than the other jingles. Then it goes to a very hard gold level. I only know because each time you hit the game select switch 4 times it skips to the next level. That way I can start on green.
@jon hartman Yes, the version they released did look like it was done in a hurry lol. However, I bought a second hand Atari some years ago, and had some fun playing Pacman nevertheless :-)
There was no excuse for the shoddy Pac-man game on 2600. Well except for the corporate greed the nearly killed the industry in 1983 and still inspires utter sh*te games to this day.
It's like every system had at least one version of Pac-Man. Check out the Amiga, LOADS of Pac-Man clones (upped 5 to my channel recently). Maybe 30+ exist, and most of them are crap.

***** I always saw Drip as a sort of Pac Man hybrid. Instead of emptying a maze, you're filling it in. You still have to traverse the whole level. There's all sorts of enemies and hazards. Have you tried the game? You'll see what I mean. You know, I can't remember that many Pac-Man style titles from back then. I remember playing them, just not the names. It was the late 80s, early 90s. He bounced around a brick style maze and painfully split in two when he died. It was cheap, but it had an appeal.
I can barely get pass the 1st maze without dying at least once, same goes to the arcade version. while i don't think this game is bad, i do think it's a little too difficult for it's own good.
@@AandNvg I'm sorry but that's just something i don't like doing. i always like to challenge myself, otherwise, i might get bored fairly quickly but that's just me.

Cool. Thanks for that info. Jr Pac-Man was a few steps above the typical 2600 game and I guess that's why.
Pacman desperately needed this when ATARI ported it the 2600 in 1982 and it shows. PacMan on the 2600 crawled so Ms. PacMan could run, and PacMAN Jr. could fly.
Fun fact: the different music that plays in every stage is the Cutscene music found in the Arcade original

Original aspect ratio should be mandatory for this channel.
