    Just what I needed is a good explanation on how to get smooth video with a rig. I bought the cage, top handle and single side grip, plus a 5 inch monitor. (I don't always use the monitor, just on some video). Thanks for your excellent tips!!

    Thank you for this! Have to also compliment on the set: the lighting is amazing! Some may say it's just dark, but no, everything is actually neurally warm and it keeps you in the focus without blowing highlights. And surely the background needs less work for item placement etc, which is good, especially at home... with toddlers and all...

    Love this! My biggest challenge is as smooth as possible hand held footage. I'm the one with a fully rigged up camera, even hand held I'll have it in the cage with 3 handles and the monitor attached to it. Back breaking but the weight certainly helps to keep it slightly steadier. Smooth hand held footage is a skill and it takes long time to master #smoothcriminal

    • @Ansonandco
      @Ansonandco  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It really is a skill. I even found it extremely difficult to get the examples to not be shaky and it was the most controlled environment. Re filmed them 3 times.
      Also i wish i was not afraid of getting sued... i pretty sang the entirely smooth criminal song and had to cut it 😂

    I find that just simply using a weighty camcorder gives the best results, due to how it is held. It's quite natural with few contortions required compared to a regular camera body.
    Extra steady shots can be done when using the viewfinder,:
    - cup both hands around the camcorder body
    - pull elbows into torso
    - and the viewfinder at the eye adds a third point of contact
    But I also use a top handle occasionally, just like in this video.

    I just came by to recommend a U-Rig over the top handle, as the hot shoe mount on top of most DSLR’s are prone to breaking.

    Is there a handle you recommend if you were to shoot vertical ? Or is a cage required ?

    • @Ansonandco
      @Ansonandco  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Cage would probably be required for vertical
      Shooting like this. And then mount a screw on top handle to the cage

  • @roadrunna.
    @roadrunna. 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The looks of your videos are amazing my friend. Minimal distraction, colors always on point, softness, everything. Anyway, for the third point of contact if you need the camera to be at a lower height I think something like a gorilla pod might help, bent to rest on the torso, get those vertical angles, what do you think?

    Really Loved your vídeo!!!
    Can we shoot a vídeo with clips with different frame rates? Let's say I want to do some slow-mo but not the entire vídeo, so I shoot 60 or 120fps and slow them in post, but the parts of the vídeo I want in a "normal" speed, I prefer the look of the 24fps instead of the look of the 60or 120fps without slowing it down in post. Can I shoot, let's say one clip at 24, one at 60 and the other at 120fps, and mix it all in Davinci Resolve (the one I'm planning to use bcz it's free)? I ask because I watched a couple of vídeos and I understood that at the beginning of a project, I have to decide what frame rate I want to export... I really don't understand... The reason I ask is bcz I have had a sony a7iii for a year and a half, I do photography, mainly portraits and I just realized I never tried vídeo... what a waste.. so now I'm trying to figure out settings, and how to shoot and the basic editing! Thank you so much in advance!

    • @Ansonandco
      @Ansonandco  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ll be honest, I’m not a fan of gimbals, that said it will not be gimbal steady. But it will be steady handheld.
      Handheld and gimbal are just two different vibes

    • @TravelingLensMan

      Can i use the rig with top or side handle and do the walking shots without jitter or gimbal are still the preferred way for walking video? I want to buy the rig so i dont have to use gimbal on the run and gun shot.

    • @JesusGodHolySpirit3
      @JesusGodHolySpirit3 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TravelingLensMan So I bought the gimble... I personally hate the gimble. I've made several videos with the gimble th-cam.com/video/YW0--Jld3nw/w-d-xo.html my most recent one and you can see the damn shake even if the set up is as much as possible; the gimble is not smooth as butter if you are not that type to make the video look gay and princessy type of shit if you want it edgy well it's going to be a bit of work time effort because the gimble just doesn't not shake it's not steady 100% you gotta set it up hold it move with it bla bla bla i hate itlooking for alternative

      Did I? It’s been forever since I made this video. But in fairness, these are still solid methods to use to get your footage within a steady range to be able to use stabilization in post. I still use these methods today and still use stabilization in post 🤷🏼‍♀️

    I feel like originality is lost on youtube nowadays. Every youtuber has the same exact dark background and soft box lighting setup. To me it's starting to look like a clichè. There's gotta be other ways to record your youtube videos without making them all look the same. There are so many ways to light a scene and everyone is doing the same lighting.

    • @Ansonandco
      @Ansonandco  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I know I’m not the first but damn people have been using this lighting more lately. When I started doing it bright backgrounds was the trend. But it is what it is

    • @ljtowers5161
      @ljtowers5161 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey man I get it, it's the trend and people still like it. Keep doing your thing, I just see things a little differently and like to think ahead and usually don't like following trends but unfortunately most people do like trends and right now, this is it. So you do you man, and keep it up, great video.
