The Wise Words of Edward Tufte, an episode in "Seeing More of the Universe"

The Seeing More of the Universe Series was created by Harvard's Alyssa Goodman for the Data Science Fellowship Program of the Vera Rubin Observatory, in 2021. This episode gives a very short overview, with examples. of the work of visualization guru, Edward Tufte. It focusses on his classic book, "The Visual Display of Quantitative Information." Principles covered include: Graphical Excellence, Graphical Integrity & The Lie Factor, Chartjunk & Subtraction, Data-ink Ratio, Multi-functioning Graphical Elements , Data Density, and Small Multiples.

Chart Junk and a lot of this is in Beautiful Evidence by Ed Tufte. I really, truly LOVE this. Helps me name and understand suspicious and biased data, how to present my own data.
Lots of data on a relatively clean plot. Helps call out poor presentations and name the ugliness. Dad always said, "Make it beautiful! Leave it better than you found it! If you're not having a good time, it's your own dang fault,!"
He was a psychiatrist!
