- Learn how to paint a cherry blossom tree in this step by step acrylic painting video tutorial. This is an easy beginner painting tutorial, but any skill level will enjoy making it (even kids will enjoy the q-tip method)!
This black and white painting background is easy to make. And the cherry blossom tree only uses red, magenta and brown, which makes this an easy canvas painting for beginners.
You'll learn how to paint a tree trunk and silhouette with an angled brush. They you'll enjoy painting the cherry blossom flowers using q-tips (cotton swabs). It's a very calming and I think you'l love it!

Hi Taniya, good question! Yes, I did wait for the black branches/tree to dry before moving on to the blossom step.
When do you use the burnt ember that is suggested in the beginning?
Hi Patty, the burnt umber is used to create the darker red color on my palette. I’ve included the color mixes in the comments section so it’s easier to make the same colours.
What size canvas did you use?
Hi Chrissy, the canvas used in this video is 8"x10".
Do you waiting long time after paint black and white?
Hi Justine, it shouldn't take too long to dry (around 5-10 minutes). It depends on how thick you paint is. The thinner the paint layer the quicker it will dry. Thicker paint will take longer.

Yes you can! There’s both watercolor paper you can use as a surface for acrylics and also acrylic canvas paper (basically thicker watercolor paper imo). I would definitely suggest the canvas paper because it’s thicker and better with acrylic paints. Hope that helps!
