    This was filmed a day after the work was done in order to get the exclusive, the room has now been treated and sounds loads better.

    I just got one of these and I'm learning to navigate it. So far it has left a very positive impression on me. I'm not 100% crazy with their presets, but I never am crazy about other people's tones, but these are tweekable. It's fairly intuitive as well. I'm pretty happy with the purchase so far.

    Wow. I have had the jury out on these since their release. Not because I hated the tones, but because they seemed to force a choice.. Tube or Modeled?
    BUT.. with the ability to switch your tube amps preamp in and out at will? Thats simply amazing.. allowing all of the versatility of the 500x to live in complete harmony with a normal tube amp.
    That ability (to me) is a complete game changer, and adds TONS of value.
    Great vid, Thanks

    I use my Boss GT8 with this method... it turns your rig very versatile! And because I have an "Amp Control", I can change the channels on my amp (A/B). I highly recommend you to use this method with a tube amp ;)

    It would've been interesting if there was a rocker verb modeller (is there?) in the Pod and you A/B'd it against the real thing.

    This tutorial by far is the best video on the 4 cable method, as it effectively turns your single channel amp with an effects loop to a dual channel amp thanks to the modeling on the HD500x. Question, what output mode did you select for this? Studio, Combo Front, Stack Front, etc?

    I'm glad you brought that up. Thats exactly why I won't go this route. I have a 100 watt EVH 5150iii. This is an amazing head. But there is a noticeable difference with this in the loop. If you love the pure sound of your amp this WILL effect it. It's too bad, the versatility and the affordability makes this a great option. If it just had true bypass it would be a winner!

    • @firemanmick
      @firemanmick 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally agree. I've got a Mesa Mk V:35 which is an awesome sounding amp but putting the HD500 in 4 cable method sounds crap. If I just put the POD in the effects loop and feed the POD through a effects loop module (in the POD), it sounds OK (standard 2 cable effects loop) , but putting a guitar into the guitar input of the HD500 sounds horrible (background hiss and noise) with the tone sucked dry (4 cable method). It appears that the input stage of the POD just doesn't play nicely in front of a real amp.

  • @skattabrain
    @skattabrain 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Can it also bypass the preamp and feed the effects return directly? So to allow you to use modeling preamp or the real amp with a click.

  • @paulhindmarshmusic

    The POD will send out all kinds of midi information so should have no problem switching an amps channel via midi. It just lacks the switching jacks that you would use for a normal two channel amp.

    Question for the Line6 dudes - have they fixed the tone/level loss problem when using 4CM on the original HD500? The fix for that involves using two EQ blocks - before and after the loop - to correct the levels; losing those effects blocks pretty much permanently if you use 4CM sucks...

    Hi Captain and Paul ,have a small question about the 4 cable method,how can i not losing the clean controls of my amp when using line 6 Firehawk and even hd500x ,because i managed to connect this 4 cable method but amp is not switching between clean channel and distortion,what is happening is that the amp stays on channel two but changes to clean preamp and clean channel controls are non functional,it's like it bypass the preamp and comes like full on volume in clean preamp

    I am curious about using the 4 cable method to use the podhd500x with an axe fx ii. It seems like it would work. There was a statement made that the pod "cant change the preamp channels on the other amp", but what if the other amp accepts midi? Im also wondering if there is a way to make use of s/pdif in connecting the units? I currently own an hd500x, and have the axe fx on order, Im thinking of ways that I might integrate the two and am hoping to use the hd500 as a footswitch both to switch models on the axe fx and also to switch post preamp fx in the pod.

    I have a line 6 spider IV 75 watt and a POD HD500X pedalboard, I need to help me understand how to connect the L or R output directly to the amplifier without losing the original sounds of the pedalboard, since I tried to set the amplifier in clean sound to get Better the sounds of the POD but it has been useless, it always sounds like stuck sounds.

    A few people pointed out that there was a sort of tension between chappers and the line 6 guy as if they didn't really like each other (I didn't notice it personally) so it could be something to do with that?

  • @actorartistmusician

    Guys - I had a RV50 MKII and used the 4CM with it like I did with my Blackstar HT60 - (Enough acronyms?) I don't hear your amp doing this - but MINE would pop when turning on and off effects - I wonder if it was because I had the Impedance modelling set globally to the highest, instead of modelling the individual pedal impedances (Which can kill tone in other setups). I ended up selling my RV50 because of this issue, and it was like 100lbs. I've recently re-ordered the RV50 MKIII in head/1x12cab combo - and Would love some advice on how NOT to pop when turning effects on/off. I will eventually move on to Helix - but that assumes that Line 6 can ever manufacture enough to be in stock anywhere.

    Line 6 would have really done themselves a favor if they would have put in an amp channel switching jack like the Boss GT-100 has. That's my ONLY complaint about the POD HD series.

    So I use a pod HD 500 with the 4 cable method into a Carvin V3 head and use the pods midi control to channel change the v3. Bass the new hd500x eliminated this feature. Or does the orange amp not midi switch?

    I've never understood the need to do B and C roll footage while the speaker is looking at camera A. I wish this 'technique' would end, it's distracting and to me it feels like the producers are taking the piss.
    Either that or get the talent to look at the camera that is being switched.
    Rant over, must say Paul is a great guitarist and communicator of the capabilities of Line 6's gear, and I am a fan of Anderton's vids even though I don't actually live in the UK!

      Question. I'm looking into Marshall JVM 410, and since it has Midi in and outs, I was wondering how does it work, if you connect Midi cables and regular 4 cables? JVM has 4 channels, and 3 stages, green, orange and red, so actually 12 channels. Line 6 Pod HD 500X has 16 Midi channels. Is it possible to assign these channels trough out patches (songs) but also configure the structure of signal trough 4c method so you can operate trough signal. For example in one song you can be using Fender Twin Preamp from the Pod and configure it so it goes trough the power section of JVM with all effects being used, and then for the dirt you wanna go strictly trough the JVM (I don't like high gain amp simulations on Pod), but also use the effects. Or maybe don't just mix and match rather scroll trough the banks, clean on one patch and then go bank down for the dirt. I hope you get what I'm saying...

    • @MrUltraworld
      @MrUltraworld 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure you can. This Orange has a series loop as well. It will work with a series or parallel loop.

    • @picturebox01
      @picturebox01 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not to forget of course that if you do run it in a parallel loop you will run into problems with phasing unless your post preamp FX are set 100% wet. You then need to be able to adjust the effect level some other way. Some guitar amps parallel loops have a mix control knob. Otherwise you will have to adjust in the pod. Not sure if you can do this. Parallel loops can be pain to set up. I trid using my old Pod XT live in the effects loop of my Diezel Einstein and it sucked tone quite badly. Hopefully the HD series has improved things.

It would be ok? that not damage my bugera preamp? when it will be allways on when I skip preamp and go to poweramp for cleans?, I decide between HD500X and Helix LT, cos Helix have amp switching and HD500X not, but its more then 2 times expensive, and I thing that modulations are also great quality in HD500X right?
