  • Here's the next video I promised that shows you how I clean my custom JPL Precision Open Gun that I use for USPSA. There are many ways to clean a gun, but this one is mine. :)

Thanks for the info. As a glock guy that got a deal on an open gun, I'm probably in over my head

Thanks for the great video. Is there a reason you wouldn’t want to use an ultrasonic gun cleaner and lubricator?

Michael H probably the only reason is I don’t have one :) and the grip/frame/sights come in one big piece which still needs to be cleaned by hand

Hi love your videos! Not trying to be too personal here, but roughly how much of an investment did you have to make initially on your race gun? (Sorry for sounding like a "noob," here, but I'm just now after shooting regularly for 10 years, looking at the competition world. I'm hoping to be able to compete at the local level later this year.)

Thanks for your comments! I bought my gun used. It was built by a local GM 10 years ago. I bought it for around $1,600 with two mags. 170mm and 140mm. It was originally chambered for 38super comp. I've gotten it rechambered for 9mm major and a new slide put in for around $2k by JPL Precision. You can find lots of used guns on the Brian Enos forums. It's a good way to start.

I really like the look of your gun. Seems to work great as well.
I have a open glock project gun at home for 3 gun competition, thing hasn't run since I put it together. Now I've got a $2k paperweight.
How much you think it would cost me to get JPL precision to build me one like yours?

Thanks! I like it shiny. Glock open guns are hard to get right. The 2011 guns have been in use so long tat many gunsmiths figured out how to make it work. Give it some time or better yet, get a gunsmith to make you a real one :)

Yeah, it's been a painful process. I even sent the thing off to a gunsmith who uses an open glock in 3 gun matches, he felt so bad when he couldn't get it to run right that he only charged me for the ammo he used to test it.
At this point I just pulled the compensator off and am gunna do like Jerry Miculek and mag-na-port the barrel and slide. If it doesn't work after that, I'm scraping it for parts and getting a gunsmith to build me a 2011.
