I moved out at 16. One of the best decisions I’ve ever made. My parents just got divorced and mom was figuring out a new family with her new husband, there was no place for me in that home. Nobody pushed me into it, I just wanted to leave. Made me learn a lot about being responsible and independent, and helped me improve the relationship with my mom. Sometimes distance does make the heart grow fonder.

This is good to hear. My 15 year old son just moved out to live with his dad. He was always welcome and wanted and had a place here. It rips my heart out every day, but I’m praying it strengthens our relationship in the long run.

Moving out is a dream we always have but once it happens it’s the most bitter sweet thing. After moving out and going to college I cried every night thinking about my family for like two weeks. The smallest thing being changed triggered an emotional breakdown. Hope you adjust well; it’s strange but you’ll get used to it eventually. Stay strong

I’m 19 and the thought of leaving my mom is just awful to me. Not because I feel like I need to be taken care of all the time, but I genuinely don’t know how I’d cope with not being to see her every day, hear her voice, spend time in the yard with her, cook meals with her, all the little things. Even just hearing her move around the house knowing she’s around. I can’t imagine living without that. I love my mom so much. I want to spend every moment with her that I can because they won’t last forever.

This is honestly so sweet 😭🫶 I kinda feel the same and I feel bad for my mom bc even when I go to a friends house, she misses me and things around the house with my 5 siblings just aren’t the same. I help a lot with my family from cooking meals and doing laundry to just being there. Idk, sometimes I really want to move out but then again I feel like I’d feel bad when I do 😭

I was kicked out at 10, literally just left in an unfamiliar place in another country.
I found them with what little I had on me only to be told I wasn't welcome anymore. I wish I at least had enough street smarts to know who to trust when I first moved out, but I was just worried everyone was out to get me back then. If I did, maybe I could've found a new family, but I'm in a pretty good place at the moment. Not great, but leagues better.

I feel for her and hope she can overcome any challenges facing her in order to live her best life. When people leave home (1) it really shouldn’t happen until you’re 18 so you at least can operate in the world with a diploma and/or GED because the working world is already challenging without a degree let alone lacking basic education.
    (2) it shouldn’t feel this way, sure you might be scared but you should overall feel exhilarated and optimistic, not like you’re wallowing in misery and uncertainty. That’s when leaving is forced and not really a choice.
    Godspeed 🙏

On the bright side, moving out at 16-18 (I prefer 18) it’s a very good decision, I’ve seen families with children still living and depending on them at the ages of roughly 22 upwards, it’s definitely better to move out and become your own dependant king/queen.

I would love my child to have the opportunity to stay at our home if they want to. I don't understand the mentality that a child turning a legal age means you aren't responsible for your child anymore. They are yours to care for until your dying day, no legality custom changes that. The world is scary and difficult, don't make it harder for them when you ultimately chose to bring them into this world.

My last day at home when I woke up I didn’t know it’ll be my last day. There was already problems between me and my mom about me wanting to move out and that day I decided I didn’t want to deal with her putting me down, was the first time I stood up for myself, one thing lead to another and she was trying to run over me. I called my dad to pick me up and let me live with him until my siblings from out of state come to get me. She pretended like it never happened and begged me to stay a few more nights with her and that house didn’t feel like home anymore. It’s an uncomfortable feeling being in a house I spent a few years and it looked just like how I left it but it didn’t feel like home felt like someone else’s. She thought I would get comfortable again and stay but it did the exact opposite.

It wasn't at 16, it was at 18, but I had a similar thing. I'm so sorry. I know how this feels. It gets a lot better though, I turn 22 Sunday and I am so thankful that I escaped that place. It was tough and sometimes it still is but I wouldn't trade where I am now for anything. Hang in there.

Okay, that might sound crazy, becouse It might be cultural diffrance or something, but its pretty common in my country to „move out” when your 16 - its time where you start a high school and a lot of times good shools are kind of far away, so we moving to diffrent cities alone to live in small flats or dorm. I hope you’ll be fine! For me it was quite nice expiriance…

My plan is to move out at 19 or 20 no later. I’m tired of my dad and his drinking. I’m 13 in a month and I’ve been planning this for a year or two ever since he’s been drinking again and has lead me to some sh and making me feel worthless I don’t wanna live with him for longer than I need to

Around here you can't do anything until you are 18. You have to be a legal adult to sign for anything
