Best type of bug to be bitten by. I still race at Killarney Cape Town every month at the age now of seventy and still don't have any intention of stopping. The adrenaline bug.🤣🤣

Skinny cross ply tyres and limited power also make for a different challenge to big power high downforce cars with massive super sticky radial tyres.
I can't agree its the pinnacle, but it is really exciting to watch.

If you know your Mallock history it was Chapman copying Mallock in the early 50's.. The car is a Mallock U2 mk2 ford created by Rays Dad Arthur, I think to this day there is a mk 37 which came out recently.. The U2 concept was racing for the everyman, "U2 can have a race car like mine" early advertising. Basically Arthur made the chassis specialist components and you went to the junk yard and picked up the rest of the car on a tight budget post ww2. Having raced a mk27 and mk30 its a great formula called Clubmans racing where 90% of the field are Mallocks.

@@mallockracerYup, a history check needed there. Mallock cars were very thoughtfully designed - eg, 10% narrower than the rest, meaning that the track was, effectively, 10% wider for a Mallock driver! Lovely race, great driving by the lead pair. Sorry for Ray on last lap, but that’s racing..

@@leslieaustin151 Mallock taught chapman the race starts as soon as the rule book arrived, The book the lone furrow has some great stories of Arther. for example a fellow racer noticed Arthurs race car did not have a dynamo fitted to the engine, Mallock had one fitted it was a bicycle dynamo bolted into the glove box, the rule never stated the location and make of the dynamo, also that the car had to carry a spare wheel, so most would bolt them on to the boot of the car, not Arthur, he removed the tyre and bolted to to the underside of the car to save weight and lower the c of g. The rule book just said wheel, not wheel and tyre and stated you had to carry a spare wheel, not where you had to carry it. Needless to say the rule book got thicker and thicker...
