      Lame manager and near the end of the 90's the were asked to change into a "poppier" sound. Yeah, sure okay. After dropping Darkest Days, probably THE most depressing album I own that would totally sell...

    (for today's youth)
    MTV* was a kick ass television show back in the day that was worth watching.
    Local record shop** was a store you actually walked into to purchase cd's record's tapes. You could even "hang out" and talk to the people that worked there. They would even recommend new stuff to check out!!!

      i blame record companies. sony signed them hoping they would be their NIN despite their connections with a couple of NIN associates in chris vrenna and andy kubiszewski as they both played in the exotic birds with trent. when industrial music became cliched and people lost interest, sony dropped them and then they were just gone. they had good songs but it's a shame they got pegged as 2nd-rate NIN.

    • @lPHOENIXZEROl
      @lPHOENIXZEROl 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@thevoid99 Oh wow, it's been eight years since I left this comment. XD
      Which is weird since they weren't that similar outside of being industrial, Save Yourself got a lot of radio play in my area but that doesn't translate into record sales and Darkest Days didn't sell as well as hoped which given the music scene and everything didn't help then the self titled album happened...
      Personally I think the change in management and direction along with the mess that came with the fallout pretty much put the nail in the coffin.
      Then Hall went and did the Dreaming which I think their second album there at least somewhat sounded more like a possibility of how SW could've evolved though Hall made a lot of the same excuses for the first album as SW's last. I haven't been keeping up since 2015 and the last Dreaming album came out which I was kind of lukewarm on. Apparently he and Walter Flakus got the Stabbing Westward rights back and they're putting out a new album at some point, we'll see how that goes.

      @@thevoid99 There also was a lot of good rock music out there that Stabbing Westward were competing with. The early to mid 1990's was quite rich with good rock. Hard for even a good band to get known sometimes. I think Save Yourself got a lot of airplay -- at least this band got that.

    I love stabbing westwards sound and their band probably kept me this side of the edge in some of the lowest points in my life for the fact the expressed sentiments and used words that coincided with my experience and feelings at those times, which let me know I was not utterly alone in my naive angst. I am proud to say I cannot relate to much of these lyrics anymore as I have moved on to better places mentally and physically in my life and I would only hope the band knows how thankful I am for the contribution of their art.
    Gods guide you guys, be well everyone.

    Its funny their later albums had better production and some tracks where much more successful and more accessible, but I always keep coming back for this album. Has that same dirty dark vibe as pretty hate machine. When they said they would reunite to write like they use to, I got my hopes up. Unfortunately for me it seems the new is more influenced by chris's pop career vocal-wise, then the old stabbing westward we all grew to love. I miss the darkest days, chris come back and write some real industrial stuff again. We all know your capable enough.

    I live Stabbing Westward and Chris Hall is one of my favorite vocalists. With that said...Baffle me the people who think this band was doing music before NIN and Tool or sounds remotely like the latter. Lol, Trent Reznor called SW and the likeminded band Gravity Kills "Diet Industrial" and hated them for narrowing his pop music capabilities. He felt they were raping his style for a quick buck and backing him into a corner. Tool are on their own planet musically and while the color tones in their music is decidedly Gothic, it is nothing like Industrial. Lol

      Michael Dane There are some really undeniably similarities in terms of the keys they play in, the bass tone, the bass in general, the toms-heavy approach to drums, and some guy singing all girly and pretty on top of heavy music.

      +Michael Dane Trent's problem came about due to one of _His_ many Guitarist's went over to SW and got them 'Out there'.

      Loved all three, and I'm from St. Louis so definitely a Gravity Kills guy. Shame Trent didn't support them, as I loved industrial metal and hated that it only lasted a few years.
