  • Just a quick tip video going over some of the Murray Cod fishing basics I've learnt for winter impoundments. I'm not saying you have to do it like this, this it just the way I like to do it.
The fish aren't easy but they're worth it when it happens!
    Cheers crew

Just got back from copeton and I will say you were spot on with your tips. Especially the bait!!! 65cm,85cm for myself and my wife smashed it with 91cm then a 101cm.

Keep up the good work mate .
I've been fishing for nearly 5 decades and still learning.
I'm coming over from WA in August for 6 weeks of fishing starting at Glenbawn and working my way to the crater lakes of Victoria.
I found your videos some of the most informative on TH-cam.
Hope I can nail one of your cod that we lack over here in the West!
    Cheers

Great points, cheers for sharing. The point about getting to know an area is so spot on. After the first few trips to one of my locals I thought the place must be barren. With plenty of effort I have gradually worked it out a bit better with the Barra sessions getting hotter even as the water cooled. That will teach me lessons for other areas, no doubt.

Split Rock Dam and Lake Keepit are two great Cod dams in Winter and certainly not to be overlooked, so far I’ve pulled my PB (though not over a meter) of of Keepit.

Yes moon definitely plays a part - more so in benign conditions. Lead-up to moon down (ie lowest elevation) though is by far the go for me. Get on to Geoscience Australia (government) website. Then you’ll discover moon elevation and you’ll become obsessed. Minus 70 degrees or more of elevation and you’ll be beside yourself.

There are a lot of waterways close to home for me but the problem for me is finding for a land based spot in a dam because i do not have a boat or a kayak. It’s more easier to fish in an area of a dam if you have a boat but land based anglers, its not that lucky. But I know the time will come soon.
