Hi Anne! Love your ideas of using postcards, especially preserving the writing. It´s a way of valuing the words and the person who wrote them. TFS!🩷🩷🩷🩷🌹🌹🌹🌹
Ann, I love post cards! This is a fabulous project!!. I've used playing cards as pockets, the trick is lightly sand the edges you are gluing togeather.
Thank you Ann, that is a very cool idea to use postcards ! They make sweet little journals , now I know what to do with my stash of postcards! Great idea.
Anne nothing is a fail. Look at what you created. This is a wonderful idea. Maybe sanding the cards where they will be glued might help. I love the old vintage, drawn looking post cards. They're monochromatic looking.😊. I also like the knot outside. I was thinking of beads and charms too. Wonderful. Thank you. Blessings 🤗🌻
These are so great. I also love preserving the writing and am so happy you figured out how to do that! Also - Elmer's!! I ate blueberry pancakes there every Sunday for about 12 years.😂
Oh, Carrie, this is so funny. We went to Elmer's for Saturday morning breakfast many times when we first moved here - then we switched to Village Inn and then it closed. Now we alternate between Gateway Breakfast House on Halsey and Pig N Pancake on Glisan. None of those places have their own postcards, though! Thanks for watching!
What a wonderfully delightful idea to use postcards that we all seem to collect when we travel. I read many people gave you the suggestion of sanding your playing cards, which I have done, and it does work. I'd like to add you could also use clear Matt gesso so that you could still see what your cards look like you are using. I have used gesso and then glued things over the top of them several times. 👀 Watching you made me think you could also use photographs mounted to cardstock for the cover pages of the journal. Then I started thinking about kids games and flashcards because I'm a retired elementary teacher. I think the card games like Uno, Go Fish, Old Maid, and math or reading flashcards would make a great little Journal to record some of the things you do with your grandson then glue a couple of photos to remember the event in the journal. You can make a little stash of the little journals and grab one when you head out to spend the day with your grandson. Save them up and give them to him when he graduates from high school.😊 You just give me so many starting ideas 💡 and then my head explode 🤯.
Thanks so much Anne for this clever idea. I have so many wonderful postcards and just haven't been able to do much with them other than stick them in pockets in my journal which I love. Once I made a mini journal out of about 30 of them attaching them in one corner with a ring. But I love this idea and am always looking for ways to use them.
Anne! Great way to use postcards and greeting cards! Thank you and your husband. I was thinking that stripe of double side tape may work on the playing cards....?
MK, I think the double-sided tape is a super idea, as is sanding the surface - wish I'd thought of both those things! But then, I might have kept with the playing card idea and not progressed on to postcards - so it all works out! Thank you!
I love that straw paper so much - I’m being ridiculously precious about using it! I have seriously thought we should return to Rome to get more. Not that that would be a bad thing…
I have a lot of postcards too - great idea! Could you sand the shiny surface to rough it up before gluing? I’ve done that on shiny junk mail before I cover them with paper. I use the three hole pamphlet stitch all the time, so easy and useful.
I wish I'd thought of the sanding idea earlier - I'm so glad you mentioned it, and you can see that lots of other folks did, too! I love the hive mind! Thank you!
Hallo Anne, if you sand and/or put a thin layer of gesso on the playing cards your glue will catch/stick properly. That's what I do when I make altered playing cards. ❤
Thanks so much - I'm getting lots of ideas on how to do it more successfully in the future! Hope other viewers are reading your comments to get this additional information - I really appreciate it!
Hi Anne! Today I had an idea of making some Christmas tree ornaments. I´m going to cut some circles from cardboard boxes and glue some Christmas napkins or doodle something to make Christmas balls. Finally I´ll drill holes and put the twine cord to hang. As I know you love working with circles, I thought you may be trying this for your journals. I think it´s a good idea to make some tags to put in our gifts bags, too... What do you think about it?
Oh what a unique way to utilize all those vacation postcards.❤🎉❤
Thank you, Patricia! Hope you have some ideas on how to use yours now!

Thank you, Marcia! Yes, preserving old handwriting does seem to preserve the spirit of a person - it's such a basic human way to communicate!

Darlene, that's a great idea - and as you can see, many folks are offering that tip! You were the first, though! Thank you!
Bonito y práctico trabajo.

Thank you, Lynda! I did try sanding and it'll be in an upcoming video!

Great ideas, love it
Thanks so much, Brenda - hope you try it soon!
Oh goody I have a stack of postcards😊❤
Yours will turn out great and special, Suzy! Thanks!
The newer playing cards could possibly be sanded lightly-not quite sure. Love the postcard idea. Thanks for sharing.
You're so right, Cynthia, and actually I figured that out in another video that will post on Friday! Thanks for watching!

Finally a productive way to use postcards! Why didn’t you use some of the straw placemat paper we collected?

Use fine grit sand paper to rub over the playing cards to remove the plastic coating so the paper will become more porous so the glue will adhere.
Thanks, Kathy! Lots of others agree!

Marcia, you must be clairvoyant because the holiday craft video I recorded yesterday morning for broadcast on Saturday has something very similar! ❤️
