    Hello Laetitana. The strongest arch design follows a curve of a hanging chain called catenary curve (only inverted upwards). The mathematical function describing the catenary is a hyberbolic cosine which was discovered by Euler in the 18th century. Do the 8 arches in the dome follow a catenary? It looks like they do...

      Laetitiana the name Brunelleschi should be pronounced as Brunelleski. In Italian the letters “schi” are always pronounced as the word ski.
