TH-cam makes Play Button smaller and creators aren’t happy
Launched in 2012, TH-cam’s creator rewards program offers different Play Buttons plaques for users that hit specific subscriber milestones on the site.
Users who hit 100k receive a silver plaque, while users with 1M subscribers receive a gold variant of the award. Creators all over the world have received the silver Play Button, and have spent the rest of their careers chasing after the matching gold one. “TH-cam resized the 100,000 and 1,000,000 Subscriber Play Buttons.. they’re way smaller now,”
TH-cam creators flocked to the comments to share their thoughts about the change, and many are not happy with it.
“What the f**k?! TH-cam STOP!!! You have consistently made it worse and worse. These are some of the massive accomplishments we look forward to and the last 2 sets of changes to these playbuttons have been terrible!” one user commented.
Another said: “I know it might be stupid, but man I’m a bit crushed. To have this change happen the month my channel is going to hit a million is a little deflating.”
“This looks so bad. What made the Gold play button so valuable WAS its size. Now that they’ve essentially taken that away & they are just the same size now, there’s no essential need to target for it,” a third commented.

Time to start SHOPPING AROUND. The CREATORS made TH-cam what it is, not the other way around. It's like a popular nightclub that all the cool people go to, until it's not cool anymore. A new place opens up across town, and the crowds flock there. One day, soon, TH-cam will be a video graveyard site where scholars go to research what people used to watch in "the good ol' days"'. Time to move on, enrich another platform with your content.

💯 I’m not a youtuber, but I’ve heard the stories. demonetization is SERIOUS! this is their job, so it’s like suddenly getting fired over factors you have no control.
for example, this youtuber from the uk said that his channel (about historical tv shows) got demonetized because of bot traffic. how can he control or limit bot traffic from OTHER COUNTRIES??!!! that makes no sense. I guess, the bots were scrubbing his channel because he had “top 10” lists and “best of….” videos. ummmm…. how is that his fault for creating content that people want to see? then he got “fired” by youtube? that’s crazy.

@@linaignatova “They” being the multibillion dollar company that takes 45% of what we make for them. Everything creators do on this platform generates "them" money. Getting to 100k subs is an incredible challenge. I’ve been working for 2 years, regularly, and I’m a quarter of the way there. That plaque is a representation of our hard work and sacrifice and is something that every creator strives for. It's the plaque that says, you made it. To find out, randomly, that the award has been cheapened is disheartening. It's not that the plaque is too small, it feels like it's been devalued.

You are all free to leave, its just like any other job, right? I belive creators should have a big conversation with You Tube about a lot of things...but plaques, really?
TH-cam unfortunately owns more than the majority of the market share. It's next competitor is roughy 10% of the size. As Google owns TH-cam, they basically have the monopoly of video content creation for long form content. So when that is the case, we have no choice but to be vocal as creators. They need us, we need them. They're profits are rising, so should ours.
And as far as plaques... I don't know if you remember a little boy we loved named Captian Kori. Getting that plaque was his dying wish and we and others mobilized to help him. It's a big deal and it means a lot to creators.

I worked for a nationwide restaurant corporation and they said stop giving lemon slices out because “each slice is $0.10” they will always care about every penny they can keep and every slice they can leave out.

TH-cam is showing the same amount of likes to views on my recent video. That is statistically impossible for every single view to get a like. Which means : TH-cam is not showing the actual amount of views which would be statistically much higher in comparison to likes. You get paid by views. I suspect they are not showing an accurate amount of views in order to limit monetization. This just started happening. I'm a small creator. The video in question has had the same amount of likes as views for over a week. (87 views, 87 likes) I usually get a thousand views to get 87 likes. I've complained and got nowhere. Thank you for posting your video!
I just got mine a couple of months ago and I would have been livid if that is what I got. TH-cam is by far the hardest platform to grow on and TH-cam has set a standard of taking care of their creators better than anyone else.. but apparently that may not be the case anymore. That is a slap in the face.

It’s not just TH-cam. Almost all corporate companies’swag that they give to employees as gifts for Christmas and etc has gotten so cheap and laughable . This about corporate greed, it’s disgusting and it’s everywhere.

We support you Andy! Most of us didn't miss the point. You were not attacking us as your viewers, but you very clearly and obviously were attacking YT for diminishing the "award" they're giving to content creators for doing the same amount of work. They cheapen your accomplishments with a tiny version of the plaque and expect you guys to just shut up and be happy. Well, no! It doesn't work that way. It's a slap in the face to all of you creators!
I don't like shorts as much as I like videos. The TH-cam videos really inform you to shorts are nice, funny, so informative but I get the most out of the videos. Y'all deserve a bigger plaque at least. It is disturbing. I appreciate you tube. The ones that make videos deserve better. They put more time and energy in it

Thank you for this video, Andy! I have a small channel that I’m trying to build up. I had no idea, and I wouldn’t know the difference if it wasn’t for you. Becoming or being a creator is not easy at all. It’s the hardest I have ever worked, longest hours, for sure!

We went to buy some pancake mix at Walmart yesterday and the bottle was filled up only 1/4 full! I put it back on the shelf and made the pancakes the old fashioned way
Getting a smaller award seems little let-down compared to all those creators who have been demonetised for no reason at all but for some petty people like the Harkles who don't like being criticised. I say: be grateful for small mercies, Andy. Next thing you know, YT will not be shrinking your awards but your revenue! Just a thought.
@szendrich I don’t think Andy should be feeling grateful for being paid for work provided, just as anyone working anywhere shouldn’t have to be thankful their employers pay them. TH-cam has in place a system of payment based upon subscribers, likes etc…the people such as Andy actually have their own business and work long hours, constantly finding new and interesting content and are making a wage set up by TH-cam. As TH-cam also promotes their award system as creators reach certain levels then that also should be honoured….not downsizing when their entire business is dependent upon their creators bringing in subscribers and ad revenue. I’m sorry but I don’t think a company that made 2 billion plus over the year previously should be taking any rewards away from the people working towards the huge jump in the company’s revenue. Sorry, just my opinion.. find it petty and demeaning to someone who has worked years to get these rewards and have them downsized. I do understand if it’s just the shorts as mentioned but not the full size videos that require more time and more effort.

What I said was that getting a smaller sized award is nothing compared to hundreds of creators who have been demonetised for unwanted criticism. Trevor Cault, for instance, has been demonetised for 2 whole years! This is the reality of TH-cam. Can you imagine what being cheated out of your income can do to you and your family? It can destroy a person. So much worse than getting a smaller sized 'award' that is really no award at all, only a recognition of a number of subscribers. I never watch shorts. I think they're useless. I appreciate very much the hard work that goes into researching these videos because I myself am a former journalist and know full well what this kind of work entails.
@@szendrich Sorry, I misunderstood part of your message. Yes, TH-cam can definitely do more (and has as you’ve mentioned) I do think they should still hold themselves up to a higher standard. It’s people like Andy and yes Trevor who bring us here to their platform and as they increase revenue it seems that decreasing the award portion is just wrong. I do agree that demonetizing someone who also has created a business on TH-cam unfairly is wrong and I don’t know much about Trevor’s situation but I can’t imagine anyone putting so much time and effort into this business and having their channels no longer receiving payment. I’ve seen a few channels recently that had to fight to keep their monetary status and it seems TH-cam isn’t fair in their decisions… unfortunately they seem to be making many bad business decisions :(

I am a small channel, 165 subs, working on putting out good content, being relatable and paying for everything out pocket, getting the right equipment , leaving everything and right now just trying to hit 500 subs to get monetized. It's real work. They shouldn't do creators this way!! Like you said Andy, it's hard. It's harder when you're doing it all on your own and trying to find people to watch and sub and you don't have a bigger channel to help you. I'm so glad you did this video! I'm going to keep working to get to 500 and then onward, but this is a lot more work than people realize.

What TH-cam should have done was continue to give the larger awards to the established creators that have been receiving them. The smaller ones can go to the new creators that have just started out. Then two years out give an option to pay for the bigger ones.
If I was running the show I would do a different style every year. What would really be cool is if they were tailored to each channel. It really is a thank you from the company so they should be sincere about it.
I can understand about the consistency, because that is one thing that is always stressed for us, like you said use cheaper stuff but keep it consistent

It's such a blessing for this to be the worst of your problems. Lots of people put in the work for various jobs and don't get a trophy. If you know the work that went into it, then just enjoy your accomplishment.
That's why I prefer patron or pay pal. Coz fuck youtube & their shady actions. It's so unfair how they treat smaller creators compared to the larger creators. If this were to happen with a “normal” company like walmart or at a bank at least they have union reps that can fight for them, advocate for them to ensure equality. TH-cam needs that imo.

I get you Andy. I work really hard on my channel as well and I'm a long way off from one of those awards, but that's just sad and insulting. Last year they demonitized me and REFUSED to tell me which video it was for, so I had to randomly delete over 40 videos in hopes that I "guessed right" which thankfully I did. 🙄
*Next, TH-cam will be sending you a tiny wrapped plaque in a Cracker Jack box! At least you'd get some caramel popcorn with it.*
