Kurumi tricked into killing her best friend by Mio in order for the latter to achieve her goal of reviving Shinji, then ended up getting her memory erased so she would not be able to foil Mio’s plan.
Yeah, I should have put her in the list since she did have an abusive childhood to the point she snapped and killed her own mother in an act of revenge.

Things like this make it really clear to me that Kurumi really is the protagonist of Date A Live, since she's the deepest character in the show by far. (And if you didn't know, Kurumi's character design was completed before the show was even conceptualized so yeah, take that as you will.)
Animazing Satou what do you mean replace him? Being the protagonist of a story isn’t a thing that you get by being a quality character. I think you’d struggle to find someone who thought Kirito is a well written character, but you can’t argue with the fact that he is, in fact, the protagonist of the story
To be honest she's one of the best characters in series bc some of the other spirits are kinda of annoying and dumb and she's not bc she's really not a villain or a hero she just does her own thing and also she's kinda a anti hero in the series
I think what makes her great is that she is driven. Most people underestimate how captivating a driven character can be especially when surrounded by characters that are carefree or dumb like you called them. Her pursuit of her goals and own way of doing things makes her stand out and makes her infinitely more likable.

When sawa a.k.a white queen say the word "I know I became a monster don't I" it wasn't sawa saying it was her own clone the old kurumi since her old self was despair by lost of her firend and turned inverse which is the white queen

I think that Kurumi was 35 y/o at the moment of her first appeareance... Spirits stop aging when they're not sealed, and in the last two volumes is revealed that Kurumi became a spirit 20 years ago. Since DAL takes place over 2 years, and knowing that she is physically identical as her own self at the moment she bonded with the crystal, that makes 17 years at the moment of her bond plus 18 years from that point to the start of the series, adding to 35. That makes her curiously younger than Yoshino (37 years old), Mana (45-ish years old), Nia (45 years old) and Mio herself (30). We could add Shido (48 years old) if we include his years living as Shinji and the time he was being gestated. She's also obviously younger than Westcott, the Mathers sisters and Woodman, and obviously older than Kotori, Origami, Tohka and Miku. If you crunch the numbers, Mukuro can at most be as old as Kurumi, since in the time Mukuro disappeared her sister went from high-school to work and she doesn't look in his thirties, and Mukuro herself looks like she's 15. For all that I know, Kazamachi Yamai and Natsumi Kyouno's ages are indeterminable, since not enough data is revealed, but i guess by her crystal that Yamai is younger than Kurumi, while Natsumi could be younger or older since her past is just the worst... (I'm using the crystals as a relative point since it appears that all crystals after Kurumi's have some kind of flaw or inflict severe mental instability, Kotori's is the prime example, since her "Berserk mode" is absent in all other spirits, but Miku has HUGE mood swings, Origami's rashness and impulsiveness are bumped up to eleven every time she uses her spirit powers and Mukuro almost went inverse over a painful but otherwise non-lethal injury, while the other spirits required absolute and confirmed death of a loved one or extreme pain and despair to their own selves). Edit: Older, not Younger, than Kotori, Miku, etc
