I find it refreshing to see a good honest video showing the good and bad. I built a carrot bed and just like you I’ve got a good covering of weeds before any signs of a carrot 😂. At times it feels like a constant battle to make any progress but I know I’m not the only one.
I appreciate that. Some videos show only the perfect bits and make the rest of us feel bad. Weeds are a fact of life, especially in direct sown beds that can't be mulched. I'm trying carrots in buckets this year to see if that helps to keep weeding down - at least bindweed can't get into them!
It is good to plan ahead for the hot days of summer to reduce your watering demands and allow yourself time to appreciate the peace at the allotment not just all the work. I just wanted to say how lively to have robins as house guests!

They are great house guests: quiet, don't eat much or spend hours in the bathroom :)
