    I have old glass rods that are over 20 years old and have been abused at times and are still catching fish. I have in recent times broken two graphite rods, one in particular wasn't put under much stress or mishandled. I think they are prone to fail if they get a nick or chip on them. Because of this I have got an Ugly Stik Gold for my kayak fishing cod rod and I really like it. It casts well and I can cast just as accurately as I could with its graphite predecessor - I have much more confidence in this rod than in a graphite rod. Sometimes strong fish don't follow the rules of rod handling. 😂

    Have many Shimano rods just bought a Daiwa graphite spinning rod. Insanely good. Casting is absolutely superior and accurate when trying to cast into spaces. Wasn't aware of the differences between graphite and glass so very appreciative of you guys putting this up. I guess realistically bending the tip like that isn't normal anyway and it really only shows glass is more tolerant to stupidity. Definitely buy Daiwa again.

    *Love St. Croix enjoyable.fishing recommend . Great action. Very enjoyable rod to use. I matched it with a Quantium Catalyst reel and together it works great. *

    well this perfectly explains why I keep breaking rods. Didnt realize that the graphite ones were so fragile.

      Also the more expensive and Japanese spec quality, the more fragile

    I will choose fiber glass for a big fish. less chance break the tip when the fish dive under the boat

      Vire boat fishing use only jigging rod bruh.. all jig rod are glass, or solid and more hard.. graphite not for boat fishing (jigging) . u must understand that.

      @@brakaner Graphite is better for casting. All my rods are graphite except for my jigging rods. If a fish goes under your boat then put the rod tip in the water, not up in the air.

    Good video fellas that’s how I broke mine! Little did I know. It was my first graphite rod, broke it when I was fishing for Murray cod in the kayak and the rod tip was in the sky and the fish dived under the kayak

    How can you sink the hook with this rod if it you have to worry about it snapping?

    My rule of thumb is I use Fiberglass for trolling and jigging... Graphite for casting lures, swim tails and jerk bait..... Easy wat to remember is fiberglass for sub surface fishing, and graphite for top action. That's just me though...

  • @steadfastangler8706
    @steadfastangler8706 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Another thing to keep in mind when using a Graphite rod on the boat is to either have a person with you to net or gaff the fish so you don't over bend the rod trying to retrieve your fish from the water on a BOAT... When I am solo fishing on a boat.. I like to wear the fish out more, intentionally taking longer to get him to the boat, relax and let him fight, so when he gets to the boat, you can have more time and more confidence in giving more slack line to net or gaff yourself without over flexing your rod tip.

    @Enpassantful ปีที่แล้ว

    Started off with a glass rod as a boy, you simply could not break it. Carbon rods can be very easy to break, especially cheap carbon rods. The better made carbon rods tend to be more robust and won’t break so easily, not while fishing anyway.

    Graphite is good in its own rights eg lure fishing but if you fishing rock or bait fishing then definetly glass. I fish with both but still prefer the handlines

  • @Jilve69
    @Jilve69 ปีที่แล้ว

    I usually just grab the line when solo fishing in a boat 'cus a net requires taking a hand off and i'm just more used to being careful not to break anything.

    Good and not good! High end rods have no place around the rocks when you're trying to get a big pig out at your feet - bring back the MT 8144s, FSU 5120s - I'd sooner fish one of these over a high modulus graphite stick any day!! When are Daiwa going to team up with Kilwell in NZ and bring back a tough rockhopper series which can deadlift a 4 kg pig when you can't wash it out???
