      On the idea of telling a prequal during season 2, it could be done like The Expanse did with Solomon Epstein's path to developing an engine for further solar system travel. They did a good job of flashbacks to tell the story on how humanity started to colonize the outer solar system due to this technological development. Maybe Silo could do similar but over a whole season rather than an episode.

      *Big spoilers in this comment* I think if they hop from Juliet and her journey into silo 17 into her finding solo then into solos story for an episode, ending in him talking to silo one and introducing Donald. From there I think it should hop between Juliet, Donald and Lucas back in silo 18. I think having the door at the bottom of the silo introduced in season 1 will help them to join silos 17+ 18 over the course of season 2. When Juliet and solo uncover evidence of what happened with the silos that could be an opportunity to jump back to Donald's story in silo 1. The story of what happened during the rebellion in 18 might be ok to omit completely so you can dive deeper into Donald's story, you could end it with him trying to escape silo 1 or with the original event at the Georgia fair. I can't wait to see how they pull it off!!

    The show made me believe that outside was green and lively. Also I thought they were poisoning the people through the filters. Plus when the power went off to make the fix on the generator the screen flickering from green paradise to toxic world sort of threw me off as nobody commented on what happened. I thought that small insignificant scene kind of screwed over the new viewers or new fans that didn't know anything about this show or even the books.

      I almost thought i made up that the screen flickered green, kind of weird that that went unnoticed with all those people in the room. It made me think for a second that they just had to reset the power to fix a bug in the camera system or something.

    it's easy enough in S2 to have the first scene as a flashback to the silo origin timeline, weave whatever details they want, then suddenly cut to Juliette on the outside. This can be done throughout the entire season, just like they did in S1 with all the flashbacks

    I know this is a big nit pick, but the size of the silo ring on the surface doesn't jive with the internal size of the silo. They are WAY too close together to be separated. Also, if you look at the size of the levels with the farms, you'd think the dug out area beyond the central core is ENORMOUS for those levels, and even then they wouldn't be big enough to raise anywhere near enough food (plus have room for livestock) to feed 10,000 people...

      I think they’ll have to rework a lot of the events in Shift to make it work in the show. So much happened that it would be hard to cover everything in a couple episodes. I think they could do a prequel episode explaining how the silos came to be and then rework the plot to make the events in Shift happen at the same time as the silo 18 plot ( a lot of them already do). But they’ll have to figure out something, I don’t see a way for them to do the Dust arc without introducing viewers to the people in silo 1 first.

    Any flashback must be sprinkled in season 2 as a discovery by Juliette or another character thru another hard drive, film projector, or a journal because if they do just a flashback story, it will kill the shows momentum and all the character development they made in season 1. However, if they do go this route, then they must be careful not to overextend or deviate from the books main storyline so it doesn’t have a negative impact.

    I've not read the books and I've been fine with the pacing of the show. I agree that they couldn't just take the show back in time for an entire season of TV, dropping the 'original' storyline. The show has done a much better job than the book of fleshing out the world and characters of Silo 18. It feels like we'll have much more of a stake in what happens and who is affected by the events that follow Juliette's anti-cleaning. I do think the show spent too much on the George thing and the book too little, but what bugged me most was actually the flash that appeared in the cafeteria screen showing the pretty helmet display. There's no reason this would've happened and, rather than being the intriguing clue they clearly intended, it's just incredibly misleading.

    I agree with Bubba! After the TV show finished Season 1, i went out and got the Wool and Shift books. Finished the first and half way through the 2nd book as i write this. I DO THINK that it would be more interesting to start to weave in parts of Shift as we enter into Season 2 of the TV series. Would definitely provide some interesting connection for viewers who are no doubt wondering about this key part of the story. Just the first part of Shift. I don't think viewers would get confused if they did it right, and like the book, label the screen when they flip back between years. My concern is that while i found the rest of Wool extremely interesting, i don't feel like we get much in the way of 'new' characters beyond what limited elements Jules encounters in Silo 17. Since Shift has 3 clear sections, it seems to me that they could weave in 'Section 1: Legacy' into Silo Season 2. • @NewtonDKC
    @NewtonDKC ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @6:40 But Halston *did* realize it was fake…at first he saw the beautiful fake world and was saying Allison was right, then he started to feel weird and tripped - I don’t think it was over Allison’s body, but before it, which at first he thought her body wasn’t there….then took his helmet off which elicited gasps from the SiloWatchers. I’ll have to go back and read the book and rewatch the episode as I think I must not be remembering either one very well.
    As for the whole tape/suit bit, I totally got this backwards, as I thought IT’s tape was the best, and the other tape used throughout the Silo was crap and that was what was used on the suits. I thought IT was mad because they realized it was such higher quality, protected against the heat better for the generator and figured they’d end up using the better tape for Juliette’s suit. I had it totally backwards but also the suit but right, just not which was which. I don’t know how,I got this confused because when Juliette said in ep 9m(I think) that “It’s tape was crap” I was like “What?? No, that was the whole reason it worked for the generator because it was better, and the typical “the privileged get better everything”motif” but I was obviously really mixed up! LOL!
    Now, not trying to be controversial but I too thought the show did the story better, but again, I didn’t read the books until after I saw the series Iand was pretty durn shocked at how much further in the story Book 1 goes! I skipped most of Book 2 when I realized it was a prequel, but I have to go back and read it after reading book 3 and getting some guests from 2! Anyway, I do think there are some bits that maybe don’t have the best explanation other than “crazy government psychos”. I like how the ‘’relics”are handled in the series, I George and having him discover most of the stuff that Juliette’s character as portrayed probably wouldn’t t care so much about but inherits info from a “fanboy” worked great. I loved the Georgia guidebook and not sure it even could have worked the same way in the book (I didn’t miss it somehow did I?). The whole cleaning the camera but would of course be solved by having a wiper or other self cleaning tech, I mean a culture that can build a Silo or 50 surely to go could think up “might get dirty”. This whole illogical bit made me honestly think the whole display was fake, especially after the Ep3 graphics glitch when the power shuts down (what was that anyway, do you guys discuss it?) and then in Ep 10 there were many long shots where it appeared there were NO BODIES outside! I saw many other people note this too so was t just me who thought it. Anyway I need to go back and really give the books a thorough read instead of the rushed way I did. But whichever is better, the lucky part is they both are AWESOME and totally digging this series (nod nod wink wink).

      Oh I keep forgetting to ask you guys but I have noted this elsewhere - Apple debuted their “Apple Vision” headset about the time this series started. Coincidence? I think not! Pretty sure whoever had the idea for the headset got it from Silo and after discussing how it would work (especially if there’s an 8x2 “retina” display inside obscuring the wearer’s face, that a “fake” display of the wearer’s face would also have to be projected to the outside viewers (or do they just see black?) and how it overlays reality (ie when they walk up the stairs/ramp,, turn an look at the cameras and clean it, they have to be seeing the real world in some way, but when the overlay kicks in it does it so smoothly that they don’t notice, yet the overlay isn’t perfect as they trip over the landscape that obviously isn’t the same as the time it was filmed hundreds of years ago…or is it totally cgi? A whole discussion of the helmet and if these very books inspired it thus Apple’s timing of introducing it even tho it won’t be available for a year or more…guess they didn’t want people saying Silo came first and Apple copied the idea even tho I think that’s probably what happened! :-)

    I think they will put the current characters in situations that are similar to the events of the past and flash back to them to a) show the parallels between then and "now" as well as b) serve as a way to tell those stories on the show without having to do a prequal season. I'm not familiar with the books and this is the first I've looked at anything outside of the show. But, if I were making a TV show and in that situation of having to tell a past story without giving it it's own separate season or dedicated arc over a period of x seasons, that's how I would handle it. I appreciate the rich depiction of human, social, political, and personal/collective struggles and aspirations of the story. Unlike some other shows, I find that there's a lot to chew on simply because it is not a superficial story - I see so much parallels to our lives today. We're all living in our own silos in some respect and believe in our 'own truths' which, unbeknownst to us, may very well be totally apart from facts. Misinformation is now justified on the ground of survival, morality, necessity, ... decided by a few in order to 'contain' us - sacrificing a few for the good of the majority, on whim of a few, is, somehow, moral and just. To live is to conform, to question is to die... for the greater 'good' defined by a few. Freedom and knowledge are, somehow, inconvenient, undesirable, dangerous, and even evil. (kinda spoilery warning for book 1 and a bit of book 2!) So I've only read about half of Shift, and none of Dust. But my understanding is that Shift covers the history of the silos up to the point of Juliette's cleaning, and also goes into the back story of Solo. Then the Juliette narrative continues in Dust. So here's how a 4 season show could go (I may be talking out of my butt here, but...): seasons 1 and 2 cover book 1, plus some of Solo's back story, and maybe some other history. Seasons 3 and 4 then cover book 3, also with some back story. Basically you don't make book 2 into a season (some of it is pretty dull anyhow, at least what I've read of it), but rather drip feed it into the other seasons.
    I'm not convinced Sims will be Bernard's shadow, but rather I think that he has a date with a balcony rail in his near future. As to whether Lukas will be made shadow per the book? You can make a case that by releasing him from the mines Bernard is buying his loyalty. Or they could go in another direction. Hugh Howie has said in interviews that there will be some major deviations from later books (see the interview on Pete Pepper's channel for example). It would sure be interesting to see the mines and the tunnel. But Juliette needs a reason to come back to Silo 18 at the end of book 1, and she sure ain't gonna come back for Sims...

    Spoiler from books: you didn’t explain to your friend well that book two is not just a prequel. But that the third part of the book actually is mostly present time and the fall of silo 17. So it should be fairly easy and seamless of how they can dedicate 1 episode, probably episode 2, to the first part of the book of how the silos were built. And then have a half an episode or even a full episode flashback somewhere on the fall of silo 17 to show the shifts in silo 1. And at the end of the season you can combine the two timelines. Or even have episode one being the building of the silos with an intro of Bernard calling silo 1 in the first few minutes, and then have flashbacks of fall of silo 17 when she finds it with silo 1 being a part of the story going forward.
    And obviously you’ll need a flashback from the second shift explaining the water and the ones that remember which I think are the flame keepers/people with the syndrome.

    Also, the author must never have actually been to Atlanta, because I can tell you there is NOWHERE in Fulton county (Which is mostly downtown Atlanta) far enough away to show downtown like we saw it in the distance, AND flat enough and cleared enough to build all those silos... NOT EVEN CLOSE.

    I am a viewer that has not read the books and I was really enjoying the show until the Finale. I was disappointed to learn that Allison and Sheriff Holston died in vain. Allison was certain that the display was wrong and the show let us believe that as well. Now that we learn the outside is desolate then almost all of the mystery built up is rendered moot. We now know why the Silo or Silo's were built ( No more mystery there). The relic that Billings burnt is moot because it doesn't matter what the outside was like because it is No More; therefore it is no longer dangerous for anyone to know.

      @DoublePMedia  ปีที่แล้ว

      In the first book, because on page 40 you learn that Holston and Allison are dead - it's a real gut-punch to the reader. However because it's so early in the book, I didn't find it so depressing that I wanted to throw the book away... more like a dark Twilight Zone/Black Mirror twist. And you flip the page to learn the next dark twist.

    Of all the changes so far... the introduction of Sims and judicial is the most destructive. I don't think it was necessary at all and more importantly, disrupted the core story as you suggested...Lucas can't be the IT Dir. shadow. The tension of Lucas not knowing anything is what drove that side of the original story. Sims is in the know. He might not know the complete story...but he knows enough to not be troubled by the rest of it. Lucas was. Lucas went from not being in the know...to in the know and blowing the job interview. Sims wouldn't do that. Sims and Judicial is the key mistake in the TV storyline. It breaks many things in the rest of books one and two.

    Maybe most of the silos have gone bad in one way or another and Bernard and the previous mayors have been doing their best to hide their silo from other dangerously rogue silos. Maybe some silos have been fighting each other and Bernard and his predecessors have been doing all they can to keep their silo out of in. Even going so far as to flood the underground access point to defend against potential invaders from other silos. I wander at what point Bernard is still in contact with any other silos or has news about what's going on with the other silos or has any idea about what's going on beyond these local silos. Or even how much he really knows about the grand history of his own silo.

      but access from the void under the silo into didn't exist until a hole was dug through reinforced concrete, that was done from above. that chamber is huge. also Bernard knew nothing of the door. I was never an intended part of the silo occupants to use, maybe a fail safe. A tunnel was on the blue prints maybe thats what made people investigate.

      @@DoublePMedia True but my big problem with the show and I'll just use Allison and Juliette for my point.
      In the book both of them find answers and bigger questions themselves, both through their own actions as well as their connections to other people. They mention the questions at the start (the we don't know why we are here, etc etc)
      Both characters find FAR more questions and evidence of a much bigger far reaching conspiracy then we are shown in the show at all.
      In the show the characters are all "A leaf in the wind" never moving on their own power but the whims of others.
      As far as what could have been cut the ENTIRE generator scene Expecially when Juliette abandons her post where she would have been far more useful and instead sent someone else to spray water. Also the founders built a generator that could survive for years but no bypass valve?

      @@DoublePMedia I finished the show which is how I know they probably used 40% of the first book and with soooooo much ground to cover, i'm concerned they won't be able to do it justice in a creative way.
      So take the remaining 60% of Wool, are they going to make that into all of S2? I think they will need to seriously condense the remaining story, not to mention the prequel aspect. Hell of a challenge as I sit and think about it.
      You mentioned ASOIAF (GoT) but Silo doesn't have anywhere near as much detailed world building and nuances as that and SILO life doesn't exactly translate to an 6-7 season run IMO.

    For me, the book is narrative driven while the show is plot driven. Visually, plots need to be more fleshed out so I don't mind the new content. overall, it still came out to Jules cleaning but will see what happen with the rest of the seasons.

    I havent read the book. I just finished watching. Personally I think the show dragged out for too long. I like episode 1-2. The story was flowing nicely. When Julia became the main character, everything drags on for too long. About like episode 6 I already had a feeling that it's probably really toxic outside, like twist of twist. Because the show tease it so much it became like yeah whatever toxic or not just get on with it. They should have cut all the Who is the real villain out, keep it at 5 episodes, first 2 as is, 3-4 about Julia, 5 to wrap up S1 story and tease for S2.

      @@DoublePMedia Then the book is superior yet again. It's a shame though, 'cause while watching the first two episodes I told myself I got a new series to look forward to.
      It's like one of those show where they were told to make this many episodes or they dont get green lit. Knowing they dont have enough content, they force themselves to make it, ending up spoiling the whole thing.
