I agree with much. I've been a ho when it comes to plugs in the past, but I'm dramatically better. I have way too many (some sell, but people always lowball the already low price) but not too much installed. A handful of amp sims (Tonex being my main one) and a couple of reverbs that just work. A couple of delays, my SSL stuff (not that much) and a few comps. I have UAD Spark and only about half are installed and even that is too much. I like your point about "knowing" your plugs. What I have I know really well. Haven't been demoing to much. The only thing I've really spent any money on in the last 6 months is the Ashdown Mixwave bass sim (on the cheap, really nice) and some packs for Tonex. Now THOSE are addictive lol. But even the ones I have demoed at my ripe ol' age it's like "will I really use this/need this? "
Someone gave me cracked plugins back when I started😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫😂😂😂😂😂. That was 14 years ago. I started buying plugins legit when I got deeper into my recordings later around 2017. I started getting what applies to what I'm mixing. For clean transparency I use SSL from waves and SSL actual company. For warm I use plugin in alliance Neve plugin. I don't want to write a book but I have some plugins that work with my production accordingly.
@ 😂😂😂😂😂😂 I wasn't into having a lot of plugins but that guy who mixes for Linkin Park (I ran across on here) broke down his setup and said he didn't need a lot of plugins only a few to work with. That made an impact on me to do the same.
finally a video that makes total sense... If you are one using samples, they are already high quality so they don't really require more processing.
Some samples come really compressed so when I process them I try to give a bit more dynamics but that's about it.

Do you suffer from plugin addiction as well? Let me know in the comments!
