I only started to listen to their music a few weeks ago and I thought their vibe sounded vaguely familiar to the non-mainstream psychedelic-electronica-bossa nova music I listened to back in the late ‘90s and early-mid 2000s. I then read that Money Mark is their producer, so my instinct was right. I used to listen to the legendary Money Mark’s music over 20 years ago back in my late 20s to early-mid 30s. I can definitely hear his sound and vibe in their music. Love it! As the saying goes, everything old always comes back on trend again! 💕 I’m glad to see a new generation of young fans enjoy Money Mark’s genius talent through younger artists like Atarashii Gakko! If you never heard of Money Mark, check out his music. He’s worked with the Beastie Boys too. He’s one of a number OG artists under this non-mainstream category over 25 years ago. Cibo Matto was my top fave back in those days too! If you love Atarashii Gakko, you may love Cibo Matto even more! They have a quirky vibe as well but incorporate more bossa nova influences. They are OG as well.
