I remember hearing this performed in Jesus College Chapel, Cambridge, on a freezing cold February evening way back in the mid 1990s. I'd never heard anything like it before, and it still blows my mind as much now as it did then.
I must give a hearfelt thanks to Ensemble Organum and Marcel Pérès, so many of your absolutely incredible chants have been posted throughout TH-cam and garnered millions of views through the sheer excellence of your work. Tremendous achievement from all of you in giving these old chants renewed life in the modern conscious. This chant in particular has a very special place for me due to its significance during a very difficult period of my life. God bless and thank you all for everything.
Who are the singers and have they sung individually before? The lead singer is very impressive. The song is very relaxing to listen to. I’m not religious, the lyrics don’t grab me, yet everything else (tone, balance, presentation and the vocal skill) is second to none. 🎵
Shan Timothy Come to the orthodox Divine Liturgy or the Tridentine mass. The sermon takes up only a small portion of the ceremony and most of the time it’s chanting ;)
Shan Timothy You’re welcome :) As I said, wherever there is one of the eastern rites, you’ll most probably find the Byzantine rite in your proximity. Churches which use the Byzantine rite are - one of the Eastern Orthodox Church, the oriental orthodox churches (like the Copts, Assyrians, Armenians or Ethiopian tewahedo Orthodox Church) or in the Byzantine Catholic Church which is part of the catholic family.
Shan Timothy You could also find what you’re looking for in the traditional Latin mass (or the Tridentine mass), which is an older type of mass in the Catholic Church. In some parishes they still serve under this old Latin rite :)
Hello, this is a old melody we find in manuscripts of liturgical chant in latin around the beginning of the second millenium. This version given in the manuscript of Alienor of Britany is different from other versions and have a special form of the melody. This Kyrie was very well known and it is sure than Richard Lionheart knew it. But I cannot say if he used it for singing his poems. This manuscript was written in Paris by the end of the 13th c. And is conserved now in Limoges. The decorations in the manuscript are very impressive. We shall in a few months make a reedition of this record with Harmonia Mundi
Guys how can i get in contact with you? I purchased your music and reposted it on my other channel and gave a link to buy it, i would like to be able to share your stuff more
Cher Organum ! N'est ce pas possible de signaler à TH-cam que c'est vous qui a les droits à cette musique et de reprendre les enregistrements qui avaient déjà été mis avec toutes leurs vues ? (ex. celui ci : th-cam.com/video/xmkhk9Z8Lu4/w-d-xo.html&feature=share ) Salutations !
This is the most beautiful Christian chant I've ever heard. I listen to it almost everyday. I have two questions I've been wondering for a while: 1) What's the name of the female singer (the main voice) in this song? 2) You, guys, said that you would re-record (re-edition) this song with Harmonica Mundi, but I can't find that version anywhere; does it exist, and if so, what is it called?

Astonishing music and artistry: I wish there would be less sermonizing in church, and more contemplative music like this.

Is it from here Richard the Lionheart took the melody for his prison song?
