  • Here is episode 11 of Pipe Organs of South Carolina, here we visit the Wicks organ of 21 ranks originally built in 1994 but was put away in storage until it found a new home and new voicing here at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church in Greenville in 2016,
The beautiful, very resonant sanctuary was completed late last year.
Please subscribe and share with other lovers of the pipe organ and churches.
In this video you will hear the Rigaudon by Campra and the Toccata in d minor, Dorian by JS Bach as well as a demonstration of the stops.
This program is funded in part by the Metropolitan Arts Council which receives support from the City of Greenville, BMW Manufacturing Company, Michelin North America, Inc., SEW Eurodrive and the South Carolina Arts Commission.
Special thanks to Tony Sane, associate producer and Jonathan Jacobs

How fun was that!?! The string with it's celeste is intoxicating, they always are. The Bach piece was a lot of fun to listen too. Listening to the reeds on the swell made me want to listen to the toccata from Percy Whitlock's Plymouth Suite for some reason. The principals are terrific.
The organist here has a great (or swell :) or both :-0 ) organ to draw upon. Another great video.

Old Man Al I appreciate your comments. the string celeste on this instrument is very nice. we put the mics pretty close to the pipes but the resonance in the room is quite nice. The children's choir here sounds terrific too.

Old Man Al I.will have to listen to the Plymouth suite as I don't know it.

The toccata from the Plymouth Suite is a great piece to listen too. I don't know about spending a lot of time learning to play it. Seems like it is a concert piece mostly. Not sure one could use it as a "voluntary" for a church service or other service. But it has a great melodic solo line for the reeds. It is a 20th century piece.

I could hear the reverb at several places in the video. Given infinite amounts of (your :) ) time, it would be interesting to compare hearing a piece from where you placed the mics to, say, closer to the alter so to include the reverb. Though given only one option, hearing an organ from where the organist hears it is my preference. This sounded great with headphones.

Rigaudon is a piece you never get tired of hearing! And cute Rahab is really doing a fine job playing it.

While I say New Pipe Organ in the title, It is new for the church and the space. And what a space. If you look closely in the shots of the sanctuary you will find no carpet or cushions!

pix of the organ installation at m.facebook.com/WicksOrganCo/
I did some research on this organ and it is apparently a rebuilt and altered 1974 Casavant originally built for FBC in Decatur GA:
      database.organsociety.org/OrganDetails.php?OrganID=44243
      The original stoplist is here:

      Very exciting!

fluteceleste , this instrument was not built for FBC Decatur, GA, but for FBC of Decatur, AL. It was built entirely brand new by us in 1994, there is no repurposed pipework in it. FBC purchased a former insurance company office complex, intending to build a new sanctuary off the front of the building. The organ was removed and stored in this facility, when the economy went south so did their plans and they’ve had to make do with their temporary sanctuary since (much too small to install the organ in. Rather than see it languish in storage (where it had been since 2007), they decided to allow us to find it a new home. I think it found a good one, and hope it serves them well.

New Church, not sanctuary! In a Catholic Church the sanctuary is where the altar is...traditionally from the Communion rail to the east wall. The people sit in the Nave...not the sanctuary.

Just to let you know, the German Flote should be pronounced "flerta". Amazing videos though!

Patrick Meyer Kind of... you wouldn't pronounce the R as you have placed it if speaking proper German.

there is nothing wrong with the organ...it is not 55 ranks but it would appear to have been carefully touched up for the new home it is in.

@@BenAtTheTube My excellent headphones also required major tonal adjustment on my external headphone amplifier - treble to the max, bass halfway up. The organ sounds great!
