    you have seen small brown hard spots on comics before? i got a stack of them and i don't think they're foxing (thou i could be wrong). if it was just 1 or two i'd say it was a booger or something like that? you can take the hard spots off with your fingernail with a little difficulty but it leaves a foxing like stain underneath, I got a big stack of them in the dollar bin and these hard brown spots are all over the books mostly on the edges. i dont think they we're stored properly and i was kind've thinkin that it was from not being bagged and stored in an old carboard box in humidity or something? any idea?

    Just bought a box of comics off a guy and a solid chunk of them were molded - which he'd neglected to mention, and I neglected to check for before paying cash and driving off 💀 these comics aren't worth paying for professional restoration - it'd be cheaper to find and buy them again - but man. Hoping I can save at least a couple by trying this

      actually if you can put them in an ozone chamber and kill the mold that way it may really help. I know I have a few videos on that too! good luck!

    I came across your video when researching foxing on comic books. Really informative video - thanks for posting!
    In the video you mentioned spraying bleach to remove stains. I’m assuming you would dilute it first - what ratio would you follow?

    • @ImmaculateComics
      @ImmaculateComics  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jameel, I dont mean NaClO household bleach. I mean solid pool bleach. I have stopped giving specific formulation advice because it has been misused and some people get angry. Sorry!

    Do you have a scientific method for removing; cigarette, cigar, pipe smell from comics? Thanks for sharing your discoveries.

    • @ImmaculateComics
      @ImmaculateComics  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes! first I will steam the book and then I put a sheet of microchamber interleaving paper between each page and then I heat press it for about 30 minutes and leave it overnight at ambient temperature. I sometimes have to to that 2-3 times, each times with fresh sheets of paper but it usually either solves the issue completely or mostly solves it. but it is a lot of work and it is expensive to do. I think it ended costing me around $45 in paper for the last book.

    Just came across your channel and it has been extremely interesting and helpful. Have a TMNT #4 with small orange splotches, rather than black. Not food food stains of any kind. Always thought it was some kind of fungus but the color is wrong based on your video here. And ideas?

    Rick, What method do you use to freeze the comic? Do you just stick it in the fridge freezer, do you enclose it in plastic, how long do you leave it in there? Thanks.

    • @ImmaculateComics
      @ImmaculateComics  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Nelson, I actually heat seal it in a poly bag, but you can probably use a good ziplock bag. I heat it up in a press first to drive off moisture. then I put the whole thing into a sterility container and I put that in the freezer for a couple of days.

    I’m looking to restore some old original arcade manuals with a similar method. Do most comic collectors have heat presses? Think if I go bother the guys at the local shop they’d have something like that? I don’t wanna buy one for just a couple manuals.

    • @ImmaculateComics
      @ImmaculateComics  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is half art and half science , its risky if you don't know what you are doing, and its also labor intensive, so some LCS shops and some don't. I'd call some local places and ask, If you don't have any luck, you can send then to me and I can press them for you. Just a basic press with no steaming, cleaning or humidity chamber is $8 per 9" x 12" area of items. rick@immaculatecomics.com.

    • @ImmaculateComics

      actually I am usually pretty close to grading vs CGC most of the time. I am often off by +/- .5 points and sometimes 1.0 on a bad day.

    Hey Rick, I have a Daredevil #1, slabbed, but has some kind of blue ink transfer on the back cover, that I am assuming came from it sitting next to a dark cover for years prior to it being slabbed. Would love to send you a picture of it for your opinion as to whether or not a liquid/dry cleaning could improve it. If you could improve, would love to send it to you.

    Hi Rick. Excellent advice!! I have a signed Monet Lithograph. I'm currently out of work due to Covid-19 & can't take it for professional restoration. I am having the lithograph appraised tomorrow as I need to sell it. It appears to have some very pale sap green splatter on it. Is there any quick magic that can be worked? There was some pale green splatter on the inside of the framed glass that makes me think it's not mold; it wiped right off the glass. Any suggestions or something I can pick up & do myself? Do they sell that putty at Michael's? I'm in PA. Thank you so much!!!!!!!

    I've used peroxide many times, but it can, and often will, remove gloss. Have to be judicious with it. My question is can you solve the riddle of the sphinx and remove ink from a comic cover. For example, someone writing their name on a book with a Bic. :) Thanks!

    • @ImmaculateComics
      @ImmaculateComics  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wise words on the gloss. Peroxide is something I reserve for extreme cases on books that are otherwise lower grade. Often I try to freeze then heat press then use a pH neutral surfactant. I’ve had mixed luck with removing ink and writing from covers. When I’m successful it’s a game of inches, not miles. That said, if has had some successes that surprised me quite a bit. First try freezing the book then using a putty eraser to remove the ink while it’s cold. Some older inks can be removed this way and you can lift portions of it right out !

      Rick Doing a great job thus far. And I’ve been pressing and cleaning for over 4 years. I watched your spine roll video. And yup, I do it that way as well. I also do it another way, depending on the severity of the roll. You can just overlap the covers and bend to your will. 😀

    • @ImmaculateComics
      @ImmaculateComics  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I will show you how to spell if you keep watching. Read the description notes for specific information. This particular book I didn't spray as it turned out it was not necessary as the mold was already dead. But it looks like you think it would. a spray bottle with a solution inside. just do spray the book directly. spray move it and let the particles fall onto the book from the air. It works better if you warm the book first in a press or the over slightly.
