James is, by far, the most knowledgeable financial advisor that I have ever heard. I've watched dozens of his videos, and I have not been able to find a single subject that he does not have thorough knowledge of, and he is the only financial advisor that I can say that about.
    Thank you!

Thank you, James. It was helpful to hear the history of these financial categories and what defines the holdings of each.

Very interesting. You mentioned the lost decade in the S&P as losing about a percent a year. I went back in my records and looked at my 50/50 or so portfolio at that time. Over that time period my portfolio increased by 1.6x. This included money from working for 7 years and unemployed for 3 years. So it wasn't a true measure, but that is what I ended up with. I had mutual funds, CDs and cash, and I did buy and sell over that period, but I never had market timing in mind.

    Great information
Especially explaining about it isn't about the best company but the price you pay for it

Won't be retired for another 10 years or so but when I do I plan to go the route of VTI and VOO. Reason being they are only down 20% this year at it's worse but yet they are aggressive enough to get good gains when the bulls are off and running. I admit I haven't yet looked at the breakdown of each but what do you think of that strategy if you don't mind taking some hits now and then.

VOO is only the SP 500 it is not diversified
VTI is total stock market index it includes small caps it is a better choice in most time periods.
But why don't you want to include international stocks? Yes US stocks outperform for about 10 years now but if you look at the 10 years before that international stocks did. They often rotate in which stocks do better
