      I'd agree, but the low players already spam heavy-feint-light enough that it wouldn't boos learning progress. Sure it works for the first 2 kills, but those same players rage quit after being parried for doing the same thing over and over again and that just influences them to do more. A stance into soul arts is better bc both players need to read do it

    I definitely think giving him an actual moveset instead of a gimmick is a great idea, the rework idea would probably be really strong, but it's never gonna make it into the game and I'd rather have a strong hero that's different than another VG any day

      I feel like a complexity isn't always good for a kit, simplicity with some nuance can often be more than enough.
      Like adding some qol changes like good forward momentum on chain lights and heavy to peal/roll catch, and making the third feat buff defense passively while it's damage buff is given at base to any soul weapon with its soul, and to the whole kit on red soul.
      It would remove having red soul sohei run up on you with the 100+ DMG bash without also using his defense debuff while making the choice of which souls you gain and the decision of when to burn them on feats or your one shot more interesting.
      Mix these and I think he'd be a solid mid tier pick with a bit more freedom.

    I like this rework. The “one shot” damage being lowered I think is a god sacrifice, and you can always stack stuff like revenge and your teammate’s fear itself to still make it a one shot, just more rare and so much more satisfying.

    The only complain I can make is 600ms 10 damage unblockable is a free parry from most players in the game. You’d just block then400ms light by leaving your guard there and look for the other two. Otherwise I like this rework.

      I view these lights as situational abilities unlike full blown offense like the heavies, in this case you wouldnt know if the unblockable is the light or the heavy, and the 400ms light is a footsies tool due to the surprising range

      All he needs is hyper armor on the neutral heavy's and lights that chain into the heavy's and then he'd be fair, bit too close to jorm but atleast you'd be able to do something off neutral.

      The heavy's have zero use other than trying to start a chain, which a zone does too.
      HIS ZONE IS JUST BETTER THAN USING HIS HEAVY'S!
      They need hyper armor to be viable.

    The way people are merciless when fighting Sohei… there’s no amount of toxicity that surpasses it. I go for any of the heavy souls I’m getting guard broken 6x in a row and parried by even the first heavy can’t ever land cause people just see it from 10 miles away

    Honestly I think it would be cool if Sohei could use souls to strengthen his heavy finishers, and he input could be a zone or backstep input like Nobu. This would give him more options to use his souls in different ways. The left finisher could deal more damage and add in a secondary stab animation dealing an extra 15ish damage (from 20 -35) with the spare 15 being bleed. His top could change to either deal knockback like Jorm or become a sweep where he uses his spear like monkey or valk and his trident could be like a glad impale where you could throw anyone you impale however it would cause it would have to do less damage (say 15 down from 20) this would give that move more viability in 1v1s

      He was made so weak that most Sohei’s spend the match fishing for GBs so they can drop 95 damage. It was cool at first but his other moves are far too weak to do anything besides spam to get your souls as fast as possible.

The issue is that his current playstyle feels like hard-forcing him into playing the same way + all his bonus weapons behave too similarly which makes them feel pointless.

    I'd rather have the healing feat give healing based on how many souls you have. You'd get full health from using all your souls, but you'd get even less than second wind by only using one or two.

    I really don't think he needs a full rework. His jank is what makes him unique. I'd mostly focus on his heavies getting some buffs. And a small soul rework.
    - Add forward momentum to the chain heavies like pirate has so he can peal. Release that and see if it adds enough quality of life.
    - Make his third feat enhance defense, not damage (maybe swap with feat 1) and in compensation weapons with souls deal +25% dmg. If all souls are heald the boost applies to his neutral attacks and zone.
    These options make the choice of wanting to save souls or reuse weapons which already have souls more interesting without feats while giving him a more steady snowball building to the bash grab. Additionally by making his defense debuff the third feat we would make the true guaranteed onehit from neutral more limited in fours.
    All while the heavy momentum would let him have more options to wiff into chain, peel, or even roll catch.
    If it doesn't do enough maybe add some neutral heavy HA, idk. His kit is fine, his flow is fine, he just needs some qol changes and some earlier rewards/feedback while you are gathering souls.

    Instead of a rework (although its cool), something more realistic for the devs would be a couple of changes to give him an actual defence during anti gank.
    1. Add hyper armor to his zone after parry.
    2. Allow him to soft feint the 3 hit attack from gb into a zone with hyper armor.

    I have some problems with that rework, but my main one (that is also a problem I see in other people’s propositions) is that you don’t have much of an incentive to go for the “1-shot” in duels anymore. Unless you get two straight gbs at the very beginning of the fight or go into a fight with souls pre-charged, might as well go for zones on gbs and let souls passively build up, which contradicts the spirit of the character and takes one step to the inevitable bash/unblockable 50/50 hero norm of today.

      The one shot in duels only happens when the enemy is already low unless you get really lucky and usually it ends up as the finisher, i dont think 95 to 60 makes such a big difference

      @@el_slender I think you have a lot of really wonderful ideas for the rework which I haven’t thought of. I understand that they’re idealistic, since ubi adding new anims for a major rework after 1 month of a hero release seems more likely than the thord coming of christ. But most of my (sohei) duels I’ve gotten at least one GB. Leaving me to only need 3 light finishers or 3 parries (interchangeable). Depending on the opponent, I’m usually able to secure the grab around 60% of the time. However whenever I look at such rework propositions, I just don’t see myself bothering to get the grab anymore. Maybe it’s just a difference in how people view/play the hero, but for me, it’s not the route to follow.

      @@minguigui9741 yeah sohei is at his best if you get 3 parries and a guardbreak, he's very defensive... and then they gave him offense perks for some reason... when he's a heavy.
      Also no hyper armor on a top heavy that doesnt even land on a wall splat is criminal.

    How i would change him, soheis yari heavy attacks are always hyperarmored(neutral activates late tho), and all heavy attacks/zones are now done with the yari also finishers, his lightfinishers are with his 3 light weapons, and his heavy weapons now get the same input as gladiators unblockable and do a bit more damage and can be accessed after every single attack that isn't a light finisher, his zone attack in chains becomes 700 ms(600ms indicator) and is still softfeintable but loses HA.
    he can zonecancel out of every attack he landed after his gb got through, this special zoneattack counts as a backdodge which means it has s, but it is 800ms and has a 360 degree hitbox and is not feintable, this cancel works like his unblockables he needs to move backwards and input a zoneattack, if he inputs a zone normally after all attacks landed he does his normal zone thing.
    Nerf the damage of the oneshot to 60dmg and spread the 30 damage around other parts of his kit.
    Rework his 1st feat to work gradually, so short said: you hit enemy with bonk hammer, you claim a soul for bonk hammer, and the bonk hammer does more damage as long as you have a soul on bonk hammer. Same goes for all his other weapons, if you claimed all six souls the Yari gets a slight damage buff too.
    His 3rd feat Amight, gets moved on 2nd place, and his 2nd feat goes up to 3rd, Amight is an active feat and you can trade in souls for a small defense buff that lasts 10secs with a cooldown of 20secs, the defense buff, well for one soul you get a 10% buff for 3 souls you get 30% and for 4 souls(the maximum amount of souls you can trade) you get 40%. The cooldown does not vary depending on how much souls you traded, its the players choice if he wants to trade in his oneshot for defense, the cooldown and active time STAYS THE SAME no matter the amount of souls.
    His healing, his now 3rd feat, sooth, sooth works nearly the same, but you now can also heal if you only have 3 souls, you trade in 3 souls for 35hp or you trade in 6 souls for 70 hp and 5 secs of 5 heal per second...
    His last feat is my favourite rework tho, it activates all his feats at once for max damage, max defense(no heal tho, players choice) even if he doesn't have all his souls, on activation he gets all the benefits of his 1st 2 feats on max power and 3 souls, but only for 8 seconds. And the souls start to decay slowly after his 4th feat ended, it technically means that he gets to actually be a heavy for 8 secs

    I was actually thinking the same that his special move should do 60 damage, but not because of the 6 soul weapons. Since he needs to get 2 guardbreaks to get all 6 souls, I thought he should get 24 + 24 damage, and then another 12 for the bash to perform the move (typical bash punish damage), therefore being 24 + 24 + 12 = 60. I think this much damage would be fair since he can get get feat damage buffs and give enemy debuffs. His 3rd feat would make it do 75 damage, and the first feat would add even more (but not your reworked 1st feat since it only involves the soul weapons). I also think the second feat should heal half of his max HP (about 70+ depending on perks), not fully heal him.
    I think that having 3 damage buff/defense debuff feats without any healing feat would make him feel very unbalanced. Of course, this is just my take on the matter.

    Externals in the game shift between left and right, with indicators dependent on how the opponent is to the player
    Issues like indicators moving when trying to defend yourself
    I "think" if Externals were up only instead of legt and right
    Defending yourself would be easier from outside attacks but gives the opponent 2 sides to shift between to get you to lower your guard
    Thoughts?

    I think it's better, but you forgot one thing. Sohei is super unfun when your teammate feeds a 1v1 so you now have to fight a full health Sohei with all his souls, which just isn't enjoyable.

    Imo the Kama attack shouldn’t be UB but should displace the opponent in any direction if you hold light (but doesn’t ledge or wall splat this should be the property of finisher top by heavy) and if the attack ends or you release light button both of you go back to neutral. On miss if you hold the light button you will have longer recovery. In antiganks you could use this to eg shield yourself from enemy attack with your trapped opponent. This would be useless in ganks becouse opponent will gain HA with dmg reduction. Top finisher light gains new property „Tremble”- on hit you gain hit advantage but the opponent can’t dodge, ONLY pary or block. So top and right light should be 500ms. Other than that i think that this rework idea is healthy for the character

    I have to say, I'm not a Slanderous fan and typically resort to criticizing most of his ideas, but I have to give him credit for this one. Plenty of people have stated Slanderous's ideas to be on the ridiculous side of things and I went as far as saying he isn't knowledgeable enough about the game to make most statements regarding balance, but it seems he's grown since the interview with Freeze.
    From a veteran perspective, I don't see anything wrong with these ideas except that they follow a standard stance template, but this is kind of what I initially speculated when I saw the concept of 6-7 weapons.
    The only thing I can really critique isn't the ideas themselves, it's just the unlikelihood of them becoming a reality methinks. Despite Sohei being rather lackluster at higher levels, I don't think we're at a point where Sohei is really so far down the ladder that he needs something this extensive. He's still a noob stomper and I think it's too early to tell if he's really such a horrible character. I could be wrong in the future, and if the community collectively agrees he's simply underperforming we'll likely see something in a year or two.
    The pattern we've been seeing with Ubisoft is they've been bold with some designs and ideas but continue to remain conservative in a way.
    A 95+dmg ultimate attack is a bold idea and it isn't something we expected. The rest of his kit happens to be basic and not completely appropriate for team fights, which encourages the notion that the character has to focus more on gaining souls to be able to support well in team fights.
    These ideas would allow Sohei the versatility to do both. Deciding damage now is a fickle thing without practical knowledge in most cases so it's tough to tell how 60 would feel.
    I don't think the devs at ubisoft are unaware of their own designs. Introducing a 95+dmg attack is already a bold concept and I think making the kit more basic was a deliberate idea. The fact that it's guaranteed off of a heavy parry is pretty scary from a duel perspective and I think he'll be one of those characters that will continue to be lackluster but have a couple redeeming qualities that may leave him untouched for a while.

      yeah if they make it not guaranteed on a heavy parry, let him chain his lights properly into heavy's, give him hyper armor on the top heavy and make his souls run out after like 60 seconds, he'd be a fun character with good nuance.
      Only other thing is his zone lasting longer with more hyper armor so it can be used to catch dodge spam (Please, I play valk and seeing the valk attack miss is criminal, fuck shugoki)

    If the finisher damage is nerfed then what is the point of 9 damage guardbeak at this point? I think each stab should deal 5 damage now instead of 3 or they should just be able to apply bleed at least beside the zone should be guaranteed after a guardbreak in case there's another enemy around

    Interesting rework, it would solve the problem of team fights and would make him easier to play, i don’t like the feats tho. Good rework overall, it maintains the character and improves it, i didn’t hear you talk about guardbreaks tho… would he still get 3 souls if you hit it? Does it happen only in “demon stance” or since it’s easier to gain souls you want to give him a normal guardbreak with a heavy punish?

    bro not only went out of his way to make IRL showcases of moves but literally had a default stance animation on top of it.
    the attention to detail is something ubisoft themsevles barely replicates

    they put so much work into having animations for light and heavy for everything so that every confirm had a uniqe heavy or uniqe light, for the exact purpose that he can only do heavy heavy or light light. while ill agree its a stupid restriction, they wont change it

    I rlly think all they gotta do is make his zone an unblockable but only when u are throwing it after a light or heavy. Damage buff an a bash mid combo. Plus need better recovery off his moves so he could play better defense. “basically making him a lil faster” an his feats are kinda useless

    He doesnt need half the stuff you added. His zone already works as a way to chain to both heavy and lights. Use that and you dont need heavy> light, and light> heavy. Not to even talk about something like a heavy>heavy> zone chain. I dunno i just hate that everyone wants all heroes to work the same. This hero is the first unique one in years and already people want him to get things he doesnt need because its "comfier"
    Hitbox on starter heavies are good. Saying they aint is just untrue. Tracking is a different topic however.
    I agree that they should speed up his heavies all around. Both unblock and neutral. Mainly to avoid getting peeled so easily. Not that it would help it be any less reactable
    The demon stance idea is also dumb. Mainly for 2 reasons. 1, nobody likes highlander and you'd basically be giving him the same lightspam that highlander has, only better. Cause it would lead to high damage when you do (and you will) fail to block all 3 lights. 2, his unblock heavies would be useless seeing as they arent block/hitstun as you enter this stance. Meaning as soon as they see you enter the stance, they can bash/light you out of it with no consequence
    The hero is good when you play him the way he was meant to be played. Slow, defensively and patiently. In a 1v1 two good hardreads means death for the other guy. In a dom match you are unstoppable with all feats, so you just have to grind those through minions and ganking/peeling with mates.
    Bottom line: Tweaks would be good. But the hero doesnt need a rework. His kit works as is with the right numbers tampered with. You're all free to make videos or reddit posts about it. Doesnt mean he needs one. Dont like him? Id say play any of the other 30+ heroes in the roster. Every hero doesnt need to fit YOUR playstyle individually

    Sohei, honestly just has 12 smaller issues holding him back. Such as how it seems he is constantly frame minus, so you trade all the damn time. Why does parrying an attack move your chain forward? I've never wanted to land a finisher light when I can bash heavy then go into the heavy mix-up to potentially get 3 souls. Why are his chainlinks from his finisher heavys like 2 seconds long? Why do the finisher side heavys have a worse hitbox than the finisher lights? Now finally, the 95 damage bash. Obviously its to high but not because of the funny 1-shot mechanic but because 80% of the time once you get the bash your opponent only has like 50 health left so its just a huge waste, so you end up saving it to one shot some idiot for daring to respawn once you got all 6 souls.

    The rework for the first feat is cool but why not just make that base, active soul weapons deal 35% more damage, landing an attack with the active weapon could consume the soul to balance this out, additionally the top heavy finisher should stun imo, ur getting bonked

    At the very least they should just buff his base damage and nerf his ultimate damage and change numbers on his feats. Hero is mid but still unfun to play against when he just suddenly has the ability to insta kill you if you don't play perfect.

    They say it techincally challenging to implement all this mechanics, and i partially agree, i also don't like the need in some kind of form to use soul weapons.
    What i would do is use Yari as Slanderous proposed, but make soul weapons used for parry punishes, and every weapon would debuff enemy in some way - for example, one weapon decreses defense, other decrease attack etc. I guess it would deal with problem of overall jankiness of Sohei's animations. And i would add new punish for gb - two strikes from one side with 9 damage to fasten soul collecting.
