Bunkai - original application of particular technique that creator of the kata had in his mind while creating this kata. It's, of course really hard to find out what author meant by using those techniques but knowing roots of Martial Arts we know that concept behind of those techniques derives from Tao philosophy, Yin/Yang and 5 Elements theory we can be much closer to original version. What we can see in most videos on TH-cam are particular instructor's interpretation of those techniques without understanding and knowing real concept of Martial Arts. According to the other authors that kind of interpretation they call henka, kakushi or oyo.

Ya agree, it would require someone with a broad background in various martial arts, like Wrestling or BJJ or aki jujitsu looking for the consepts of motion and re giging the movements of the kata to flow from teachnique to teeachnique. Kata does well to preserve the order of motion but not the direction of motion as applications are stacked apon each other.
Im pretty shore i do a good job of breaking down and finding the original intent and bunki but i do like to see how other's asume.

This video is totally wrong, shows bunkai that doesn't have any right application of those techniques, please educate yourself first and then try to show applications of those techniques. I'm serious, we need in Kyokushin better education, you have to understand kata and bunkai of those techniques have nothing to do with sport fighting. this is very bad video

Max Cowgill , I have been training Martial Arts since 1968, two years judo and then karate, I trained with Hatsuo Royama Shihan pretty often, before he established his own Organization. I travel to Japan and China (to practice in Shaolin Temple on regular bases for over 30 years, I have my own dojo, we practice karate as a sport and karate-do, for more realistic fight, like on the street. I'm also acupuncturist, I do Chinese medicine and that's why I have better chance to understand all those movements. I'm actually surprised that H. Royama Shihan (Grandmaster) has so poor explanations of applications of those techniques, calling this "bunkai". H. Royama Shihan was actually the only one who, during his trainings was talking about energy Ki (in Chinese Qi) and I would expect from him some explanations how to effect opponent's Ki to disrupt it because Martial Art concept is based on Tao (Dao) philosophy. I trained under quite few Grandmasters to seek for answers although I'm a Grandmaster myself in two different type of Martial Arts. Right now I'm not too much into sport karate but more about self defense using it smart way, although I "produced" many champions of two continents and one of the best fighters in the world as far as we are talking about sport karate and I'm talking about full-contact, barenuckle fights, kick boxing and Muay Thai rules. It is actually much more about me that give me rights to criticize the other if I see they try to teach something that doesn't have any values, thank you for your time
And two more sentences that explain everything:
"To learn without thinking is useless but thinking without learning is dangerous" - Confucius
"Those who know don't speak, those who speak don't know" - Lao Tsu

Well feel free to share your bunkai and enlighten us. I am open to different perspectives on Bunkai. But I would not readily dismiss someones Bunkai.
