If your bird is melting, you probably have a penguin and you should purchase a freezer.

Squark Squark, at 6-7 am, every day, I want out of my cage and to jump on your shoulder, and preen your well, what ever hair you have, beard, hair, or just try to steal what your drinking. That's the life of someone owning a bird, well in my case a Parrot, but he is amazing, Never wanted one, but got one and would never give him away, had him for 2 years or so now :)

We have young peafowl. Raja, our year old peahen, keeps Prince Charming, Fred, and George, our year old peacocks, in line. Peafowl molt gradually through the year, with the exception of the males' train feathers, which will molt after the breeding season is finished each year. Then they gradually grow back, very similarly to antlers in male deer. Molting is fascinating! I find myself saving many of their beautiful molted feathers, lol!

My green cheek conure has been molting every 3 months or so, and it has me worried. Knowing I can improve his diet and light is great! We live in the PNW, where it's dark and cloudy a lot, which may be effecting this a bit. I'll also try to incorporate a more balanced diet for him. Thanks so much for this knowledge and for all of the videos you produce!

How long does this molting process take? Also, how old do they have to be when they start to molt. Lastly, when do they usually do it bc I have chickens and one of them is a little over a year old and the rest are almost a year and they’ve never molted before. Great video and I love your channel.

Oh sorry another question! Can you do a video sometime about the beak and feather disease with birds and species affected? When I researched it, it sounds like a HORRIBLE sickness but wasn't sure if it's still common or is it pretty much a thing of the past? I never hear about it anymore so I was curious.

I love these Maccaws.. but when in Durban.. walked in to a pet store & this young baby 'grey flew straight to me & clung to my jumper chest.. wings spread. It even surprised the shop owner.. "she's your bird". 🙁 I was heart broken I couldn't get it safely to UK 😢

I adopted a green cheek conure about a month ago and so far he only trusts me enough so sit and eat on my hand. Whenever I attempt to gently pet him, he either steps up on my finger, fly away or bite me (not very hard though). Any tips will be greatly appreciated!

I had a my sun Conure for 16 years until my Uncle's stupid girl friend left a dog in the den with him and his cage opened smh I loved that bird I got him from my other Uncle who saw how much we got along when I'd go up to his lake house for the summer, so he surprised me for Christmas one year and showed up to my house with him I was 15 that bird loved me he'd fly from his cage to me, I lived in central Alabama then so in the late spring and summer I'd hang his cage outside he'd love that he'd fly to me outside too and crawl all over me. He hated when I'd talk on the phone he hollar the whole time. Then I moved to south Louisiana in 2008 and he loved it here so much he could stay outside 8-9 months of the year and my other uncle fell in love with him too and I moved back to Alabama in 2010 and didn't have the heart to take him from that sunny Louisiana weather plus he had bonded with my uncle and he loves animals as much as I do. I moved back in 2012 and my uncle had a new girlfriend smh jealous woman, jealous of his dogs the bird anything that took time away from her. But anyway he died in 2014 while I was at work and my Uncle apologized a thousand times and was upset about it too but while a sad story It's nice to think about him I miss hearing him hollar in the morning or when a phone or doorbell rang. Oh and when he'd molt I'd itch his head for him and he'd do this little dance and loved to eat anything he'd eat whatever i'd eat he'd fuss when I'd eat something he couldn't taste like chicken or something birds don't need to eat, he'd love pizza I swear oh and broccoli. He'd bath himself quite a bit and loved music.

Actually, if you have to remove a broken blood feather a sterilized pair of small needle nose plyers is much better than tweezers. The tweezers can slide off the slippery shaft. The plyers more firmly grip the bloody shaft allowing you to remove the whole shaft quicker with less stress on the bird.

I've owned birds for a long time and strangely enough my eldest birdie only molted once; then never again but when she milted good lord you'd think I pluck and boiled her. She's fine and fully feathered just I guess her's was bad.
Also I have a question and it's been hard to get an answer, I'be had Birdie my GCC for 10 years and she's never once laid and egg ever and I have blood tests and everything she's clean and healthy and very much female. Same goes for my mom's late bird Wensday the Blue Front Amazon just wondering why they never laid an egg birdie never even showed signs of going into heat, while my cockitel is at it almost everyday over spring, summer.

Hey, I have a question, my cockatiel is one and half year old male. This is the first time I have seen him shedding so many feathers like 30+ only for a day. I saw no feathers shedding the day after. Is this also considered MOLTING? He looks a bit feverish and feet are warmer than usual. But he is pretty active. Coz it's only one day I have seen him shedding feathers. We don't have good vets near by and I'm concerned. 😔

Most animal facilities require that you're at least 14, some only take volunteers that are 16 or 18. One volunteer position that will often take the youngest volunteers is being a dog or cat socializer at a local humane society or county rescue. This will help you learn how to be a good volunteer and start building your resume so when you get older you'll be a great candidate for another animal facility.

Is there some object I can use to help my lovebird when she is molting? She asks me for pets but my finger scares her and so she is always asking for pets and then walking away before I touch her, when she sees me moving in.
