    In all honesty I think this is a very privileged list that reflects great options for students who have money and privilege, or the select few who are able to earn merit scholarships. I think it neglects to recognize the variety of small local colleges many future doctors attend. As a premedical student, I found that the college you attend has far less to do with your experiences and skill as opposed to the city you live in. The bigger the city, the easier it is to achieve opportunities in research and advanced clinical opportunities.
    I go to a very small, largely unrecognized liberal arts college in Minnesota, and because of this I am able to shadow at Mayo Clinic and do research there as well. All I had to do was put myself out there, and build connections with professors who have worked with Mayo before.
    I think a lot of the research nailing these schools as "the best for pre-meds" has a great deal to do with the masses of intergenerational wealth these institutions hoard-- yes, students at these schools are more likely to go to medical school, but only for the same reasons they're more likely to get into these schools for an undergraduate degree (which for the most part is privilege and access to resources that many students are not able to obtain)
    Privilege doesn't mean you don't deserve to go to a good medical school, or that the students at these schools have to work less hard to get in, but it does indicate that they may have large advantages over students who go to less wealthy institutions and have less wealthy parents.
    (and again, I'm speaking for the majority of the students at these institutions, there are always going to be outliers of low-income students at these schools, but by being surrounded by generational wealth and resources, they in turn also benefit-- and many of the schools on this list make it deliberately difficult for low-income students to attend by favoring students with connections and resources)

    Great thoughts on right fit.What is missing - Cost of some of these schools. USC, Columbia for students who get no Financial Aid is so expensive. Students should weigh how much debt burden they are willing to take and for how many years.

    Hi Mr. Patel. I was wondering. can you make a video on how to deal with bad people in society. for example, teachers in high school, professors at college/university, and even work bosses, managers and supervisors at a workplace. I would highly appreciated it because in my opinion, one of the worst things about life is that you might run into people who are incredibly disrespectful. they make people feel hopeless and worthless. but it's not about the person who is antagonizing you. it's about yourself! you have the right to tell someone that that particularly person is being disrespectful to you. everyone in society should be as friendly as humanly possible.

    Hello wonderful people of the internet, But this questions is for Mr. Patel. I am currently a sophomore, and I am 100% sure on my career in the medical field. I am already preparing myself for college by looking at the QuestBridge, a financial aid program, and I have most requirements for it! But I am still wondering, how do I make my question to becoming a doctor lighter on the wallet? Any other financial aid programs you recommend?

    • @jasonpatel13
      @jasonpatel13  ปีที่แล้ว

      Questbridge is an excellent program for undergraduate education. Unfortunately, there currently isn't a program like that for medical school. If you join the military, they'll typically pay for you to attend medical school in exchange for a certain number of years of service. Alternatively, you can apply to medical schools, like Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine, that provide generous scholarships to students who are accepted.
