That was so good. I can't wait to see Ereshkigal either. That little moment with her in the intro admittedly made me fanboy harder than it should have.
this is just my opinion but I've had enough Rin, Shinji Shiro and Saber to last me a lifetime. for me, Rin as a tsundere works because we stay on her in a fate series and get to work her out of her tsun and more into her dere. Having her be in multiple series breaks that for me, because she's the same tsundere in every series, it gets boring, the same with the other characters I've listed. again this is MY option and i'm not asking for anyone to change theirs,
Sponsored by HIDIVE, only recommended one HIDIVE show. Seriously though, Funimation looked like they killed it this season. I've been sitting on the fence, but this will probably push me into getting a membership. My personal pick so far is Ascendance of a Bookworm. Seeing the main character end up in a legitimate medieval world, as opposed to JRPG fantasy fodder is a good change of pace. The opening scene shows where she'll end up, but that just makes the journey to make a book more interesting. Plus there's the potential to see a 5 year old dazzle the world by using science. It's like a tiny Dr. Stone.
"...and that works because Sun-chan and the girls who love him, unlike our heroes, seems like genuinely good people who you want to see be happy." HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I'd actually say the show works for the opposite reason... because the hero is a scumbag, it makes it easy to root for Pansy, manipulative stalker that she is.
I know it’s kind of a meme but can we seriously just take a few seconds to truly grasp the reality that there is an anime where the MC has *A GUN FOR A HEAD*
One of the anime this season that I think deserves some attention is Beastars, it's a character-driven drama with elements of action and thriller sprinkled in for flavour. It's a fully CG anime but it's being animated by studio Orange, the same people who brought us Houseki no Kuni. I've blown through the 150 chapters of manga within the span of 24 hours I was thoroughly engrossed in the plot. I think the 1st arc that's being animated will prove to be very interesting towards its ending, don't pass over it this season. As far as the manga goes I would give it somewhere between 9/10 to 10/10 as for the anime since it's a character-driven story, we need to see how well it's adapted because there are lots of aspects of the show that are difficult to express through animation. Keep it on your radar for sure.
I'd watch it if i had a legal way to do so for sure. Unfortunately netflix is dumb so I guess I'll wait till March or whenever they finally put the whole season up.
Considering Konosuba is probably the most popular isekai parody we've gotten out of a very very trope-filled genre, you can't really blame people for comparing more recent funny isekai to it. We'll probably get to a point where we have a larger pool of comparisons, whether that's a good or bad thing is up to how you view the genre.
Yeah, they both don't even come close to Konosuba for me. I like the pet anime, but not because of the comedy and I think I even prefer that Irumi/Iruma (I even forgot his name)-isekai more than the overcautious hero.
@@tychowozniaki9269 it's a very hit or miss case when it comes to isekai, as a relatively recent genre that's still struggling between sticking to conventions and trying new things. Most of it does boil down to personal preference, and there's nothing wrong with that.
Glad to see OreSuki on your list. Aside from the comedy and the seemingly different take on the harem anime, I love that we don't get a self destructive Saki Yoshida in Pansy (doppelgängers, I tell you). Her dark humor is all I need. Every Wednesday, my lunch is watching OreSuki twice and then still not being satisfied.
And Da Vinci was believe to be gay irl, so this literally works itself out. (Also Mona Lisa. In case anyone had any doubts about her appearance. It's the Mona Lisa but anime)
I’m really enjoying “ascendance of a bookworm” It kind of reminds me of Dr Stone, only it’s medieval rather than stone age and literacy rather than science
It's also a lot more laid back, lacking the fighting and forward energy that make Dr. Stone what it is. Its main character is a bit more realistic in capabilities, and quite limited by poor health, so every small achievement feels like a big milestone in Bookworm. Dr. Stone is great at hyping up, while Bookworm is the perfect thing to watch to calm down on a Wednesday afternoon after a stressful day at work.
Yeah, Ascendance of a Bookworm is probably the best quality series this season, as far as non-action, non-comedy titles are concerned. There's certainly nothing more wholesome this season, it actually shows just how much simple day to day things are different, and is a far more realistic take on the setting. Like Re:Zero was, but from a wholesome angle instead of a horror / harem angle.
The most interesting anime I am watching is Mairimashita! It’s absolutely fantastic with its old style animation and possibly the best OP since mob psycho. It’s music is simply incredible .
Kinda miffed MB lumped it in with the Isekai genre as an excuse to not talk about it when it's not really an isekai. It's the same world, just that world's equivalent of Hell. Are we going to start calling Heaven and Hell isekai too?
@@NotAGoodUsername360 You want some mind-blowing stuff? Dr Stone is technically an Isekai, only instead of traveling to a different planet, they go to the far future.
This is literally the video I wait for every season. Always watch some of the recommendations here since I don't have time to watch them all and you never disappoint. Thanks for saving everyone's time, you're the best :)
So glad someone else is talking about kemono michi! It had me dying in the first episode. It’s a bit held back by the animation, but even then it manages to stay funny. Just the idea of a wrestler with isekai mc level power would’ve had me sold, but the animals make it amazing. Also the fact that they added a bug friend without acknowledging or explaining it at all was so good
"The first gacha that's trying to tell a good story first and sell me shit second" no no no, you got it wrong. It gives you a good story with good characters then gives you unfair, emotionally manipulative conclusions to these character arcs so you'll think with your tears and bring out your wallet when those characters get a gacha banner. And, god damnit, it works every time.
Except Pokemon has literal satan and beings made of hate with nothing but vengeance on their mind or even sentient balloons with a nack for child murder
What you said is exactly why I love F/GO, it's more than just a product that they sell me, there's a real engaging story first and foremost. (there's more to it than that tied to the gameplay, but the main reason is the story)

@@Lyendith Considering that this is based on the "urban legend" that the Mona Lisa was a self-portrait of Leonardo himself but turned into a woman that's quite close as a possible explanation. If I am not wrong in the game Leonardo says something like "I pursue beauty. The Mona Lisa is beautiful. Why I shouldn't want to appear as her?"
Actually Ahiru no Sora is more a slice of life drama than shounen sports series similar to Kuroko no Basket. And a really realistic in showing the forming of a team, and how the true genius can be misunderstood by others.
I would say that Babylon is hands-down the BEST new anime of the season so far, although No Guns Life is a delight too. The episode 3 of Babylon, which is the end climax of the first novel, was chilling and jaw dropping. The 3 episode format was the perfect hook for this anime.
Im super happy to see Geoff saying he’s enjoying FGO Babylonia! Im a longtime fan and player of the game and although i’ve been happily surprised by the quality animation so far, it feels like to non-fans the show might be a little difficult to get invested in. It kind of flies past some plot elements and it skipped several chapters of the games to get to Babylon (although the first few chapters had mediocre stories for the most part). Hearing our anime Pope enjoy it is really encouraging!
Watched both episodes and was totally unnimpressed. Terrible long winded dialogues, shoddy animation with just jumpcuts and flashes, and yes before you jump to "it's supposed to evoque nostalgia" from old samurai titles, there have been older titles with better animation and way better storytelling like Rurouoni Kenshin's Trust & Betrayal
I really like that one bookworm isekai this season. It's such a different approach to the genre, and I love her over the top internal reactions to everything. Also the demon school one, like I may not be able to remember any of these shows' names but I can vouch for them!
You missed one great & hilarious isekai "Didn't I tell you to make my abilities average in next life!" and the awesome ONA classic Blade of the Immortal legendary manga adaptation. Iriuma-kun is a hilarious anime too and not a conventional isekai. It doesn't feel like an isekai at all actually and it's funny as hell!
"Didn't I tell you to make my abilities average in next life!" is a show of a decent quality, and I'm enjoying it so far. I'm not so sure I'd say that if I hadn't read the Light Novels beforehand, though, the anime does skip over quite a lot and also appears to be heavily rushing.
I haven't read the LN, so maybe it's folowing it more closely, but it rushed way too much compared to the manga and that got me a bit worried, the premisse is good and the manga have bot funny and touching scenes, but I fear we'll not get to see those in favor of a more streamlines comedy (which will destroy much of the show charm).
@@kageyame Oh yeah, it's totally rushing the LN too. I haven't read the manga, but from what I've heard even the manga rushes a bit compared to the LN. The show is moving at light speed comparatively.
I share ur opinion about iruma-kun the show is so goddang hillarious that i want all the current manga volumes on my shelfs ( the whole sets is 38 euros lets pray for christmas )
I’m rather fond of the manga for Mairimashita! Iruma-kun and Beastars both of which have an anime adaptation coming out this fall. I am hopeful that they will be good and I definitely suggest at least checking them out.

My favorites so far from this season's new shows are, in no particular order: Ascendance of a Bookworm - just a calm, cute relaxing show to watch. Demon School - another good, fun comedy isekai... but with a school setting. Oresuki - crazy stalker girls tend to make for good anime. Didn't I say to make my abilities average - if you liked Endro!, you'll probably like this. Haven't gotten around to the wrestler or cautious shows yet, because they aren't on the services I subscribe to,. Bit of an issue with this season... lots of good stuff, but also lots of interesting stuff that is exclusive.
I feel like Jeff missed a few Isekai anime. I know for certain that “Didn’t I Say To Make My Abilities Average In The Next Life” is an Isekai anime, and it wasn’t included when he showed the Isekai anime on the screen.
Psycho-Pass. Food Wars and My Hero are all in my favourite anime of all time list. So I’m pretty hype. But the truth is I really want to watch Babylon now that you have alerted me of its existence.
Alright, I know it’s three episodes in, but I suddenly realized that I really want an analysis of Oresuki because of the prevalent usage of books to provide moral messages in its plot. Then again, that’s all that sparked me to say this, so if there’s nothing else in Oresuki to analyze, then I wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t. Well, it was that and the fact that Joro and Sun are basically the same character at different points in time. But I feel like if you really did an in depth analysis of every book that appears, you could find a billion messages hidden away. Aesop’s Fables of the Hare and the Tortoise were enough to get me thinking hard, though that’s mostly because it was the only book that I recognized the storyline of.
Favorite Shows this Season in no particular order Welcome to the Demon School Iruma-kun Cautious Hero Kemono Michi Ascendence of a Bookworm No Guns Life Blade of the Immortal Babylon Shin Chukka Ichiban Beastars Ahiru no Sora

Having her be in multiple series breaks that for me, because she's the same tsundere in every series, it gets boring, the same with the other characters I've listed. again this is MY option and i'm not asking for anyone to change theirs,
@@connorradcliffe1769
That's fair, though this technically isn't Rin so much as it us a goddess with a similar personality who possessed her body.
I'm just waiting for her to hold 'worst goddess' sign
Stone.
"...and that works because Sun-chan and the girls who love him, unlike our heroes, seems like genuinely good people who you want to see be happy."
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
And just like that. This show lost me
@@doubleasworkshop1692 They are not
I'd actually say the show works for the opposite reason... because the hero is a scumbag, it makes it easy to root for Pansy, manipulative stalker that she is.
I know it’s kind of a meme but can we seriously just take a few seconds to truly grasp the reality that there is an anime where the MC has *A GUN FOR A HEAD*
X-Lander and it's pretty damn good
I'm still laughing about it it's so damn funny this actually exists
As Geoff explained, this is what makes Anime such a magical storytelling medium.
X-Lander
He’s also a detective who smokes. A literal smoking gun.
Os u pirate the show?
Coz it's only on Netflix Japan
I'd watch it if i had a legal way to do so for sure. Unfortunately netflix is dumb so I guess I'll wait till March or whenever they finally put the whole season up.

isekai anime that's slightly funnier than average:
Everybody: iS tHiS kOnOsUbA?!?!?
Considering Konosuba is probably the most popular isekai parody we've gotten out of a very very trope-filled genre, you can't really blame people for comparing more recent funny isekai to it.
We'll probably get to a point where we have a larger pool of comparisons, whether that's a good or bad thing is up to how you view the genre.
Yeah, they both don't even come close to Konosuba for me. I like the pet anime, but not because of the comedy and I think I even prefer that Irumi/Iruma (I even forgot his name)-isekai more than the overcautious hero.
Ryan Robinson I mean one of them is written by the Konosuba guy
@@tychowozniaki9269 it's a very hit or miss case when it comes to isekai, as a relatively recent genre that's still struggling between sticking to conventions and trying new things. Most of it does boil down to personal preference, and there's nothing wrong with that.
most Isekai are not even funny. Instead of having good jokes they focus more on ecchi "jokes" and being self aware
Glad to see OreSuki on your list. Aside from the comedy and the seemingly different take on the harem anime, I love that we don't get a self destructive Saki Yoshida in Pansy (doppelgängers, I tell you). Her dark humor is all I need. I’m really enjoying “ascendance of a bookworm”
It kind of reminds me of Dr Stone, only it’s medieval rather than stone age and literacy rather than science
If it's of any interest to you, check out the web novel it's based off of :)
It’s good I love the protagonist.

No “Blade of The Immortal”?! You’re missing out.
Its not on Crunchyroll etc so it doesnt pay much
Watched both episodes and was totally unnimpressed.

Legend of Galatic Heroes, an old anime that is still kicking ass
