A tip on the bulwark bending at 21:30 is to let the bulwark soak in hot water about 8 minutes, then use the side of a drinking cup or glass to gently bend the forward section until it closely approximates the curvature of the hull. I wrapped the bulwark around the cup a little section at a time, but working quickly. I didn't crack the wood at all and once dry it held the shape nicely.
Best instructional video I found till now. No idle and incoherent Chitchat. I was looking for close up views of the single manoevers, which tool to use in every step. After my pessimism when unboxing and ordering the tools, I am now more looking forward to get into action. Thanks.
Thank you so much for this video. I, too, love your attitude. These videos were incredibly helpful for me, a novice. Much appreciation! Blessings to you.
Hello Alex , thanks for this step-by-step tutorial, you are doing an amazing job, Can you however give a list of all the tools you are using ( with links if available) ? Thanks again for sharing your knowledge and experience.
Thank you! This video and your whole series will be very helpful to me. One question: It struck me that for a beginner level kit, it requires a lot of tools. Would the Basic Tool Kit that OCcre sells (not currently in stock ) be enough for this project? Thanks again.
I cut some scrap lumber the same shape as the deck for the bulworks. This way I could bend the wood into shape without breaking it at the first opening ( had to order new ones as I broke them on the first attempt without a mold). Between light steaming and a heated plank bender, got a very good fit. I then fit the inner planking on the bulworks while it’s still in the mold-that way it kept the same shape. I also did the same sort of mold for part 24- the curved piece at the stern. Both ideas worked out great. Hope this helps.
Choosing a smaller wooden ship model is actually much harder than choosing a large one. Imagine how tight the rigging gets on a small model trying to keep the same level of detail as a larger one, and you get the idea.
Alex, I think there needs to be a little clarification regarding your video from 16:52 to 17:03. At 16:52 you cut out Part 16 in accordance with Albatros PHOTO 8 (inset in video), but by 17:03 you are working with Part 25, which does not match PHOTO 8 in the inset of your video at that moment. Part 25 does not come into play until Albatros PHOTO 17. Perhaps it makes no difference in the end, but as a beginner looking at your video and the Albatros photos at the same time, I was a bit confused for a moment. (I heard you say seconds later that you were jumping a bit. OK, but that was after I paused the video and rewound to try to figure it out.) I do appreciate your videos very much!
After you have glued the lining to the frame, how do you cut off the excess lining without pulling the lining apart from the frame, especially if you're using OCcre's White Glue instead of the stronger cobbler's glue? Thank you.
The video is from "Alex Modeling", unfortunately the construction error can also be seen here. At 11:28 he cuts out the recesses for the frames on the deck, but they have to remain. He also did not move the indicated joints of the deck planking correctly. Otherwise thanks again to Alex for his great videos.
Next time write 11:28 (colon) : Then we can click and find it immediately 😀. So you have built the Model, I will receive mine in 14 days. Some people on the net claim the instruction is only in spanish Is that true?
Hi. The instructions are mainly in Spanish, but the parts are also translated into English and German. But the pictures give enough clues. It is important to think three times before drilling, gluing or anything else ...
Deciding on the type of glue to use is somewhat confusing. Both Occre and Alex say to use contact glue (also known as cobbler's glue) to line the deck. However, Alex's Spanish-label contact glue seems not to be the same type as what I bought at Home Depot in New York--Gorilla Clear Grip Contact Adhesive. (No glue in Home Depot simply said "contact glue.") The Gorilla Glue is more like a Crazy Glue. It cannot be spread with a paint brush so easily, as in Alex's video. It comes in a tube, dries quickly, and gives off strong fumes. (I have to wear a mask when using it.) Alex, I wonder if Elmer's Carpenter's Wood Glue would be good to use instead of contact glue. It has a similar consistency to Occre's white glue and claims to bond stronger than wood. Any guidance in this matter would be helpful.

For a first timer on wooden ship models, you have a grate attitude and confidence in your approach. Keep it up and good luck.
Thanks!!

Thank you! One thing that would be helpful is to provide at the start a list of all the tools and materials that you used to build this kit.
Ich habe noch nie ein Holzschiff gebaut, nach Deinem Video versuche ich es mal

Absolutly right on the deck! My mistake
