I am SO glad I bypassed the curl training videos with a million views and watched this first. Thank you for sharing your expertise! Saved me time and probably a lot of money on useless products.
Thank you so much!! My hair got a slight wave after menopause. Then I moved to Florida!😮 every year my hair got wavier, not in a good way because eventually I could no longer dry it straight. I went through all the curl training videos and products trying to get it to curl. Then I found you! Thank you for bursting my bubble! I’m still finding products to use to give volume since it’s very fine, but I’m no longer chasing that rainbow!❤️
I stupidly tried the whole "curl training" while using olaplex thing and I can say from experience it most definitely does NOT work lol! I was just hoping for some of my less curly pieces to match up to the majority of my head, but no, those spots are what they are. 😂 Anyone who sees "results" from curl training with olaplex is just seeing the results of olaplex mending some of the damage that was negatively impacting their curl pattern. It's always nice when licensed professionals share their knowledge vs whatever the latest tik tok trend is telling you!
Yes exactly! These things help damage by restoring health but in the end, our hair is whatever it is. I’m too lazy to curl train, even for definition. I let my hair be it’s wonky self. Lol. Glad to hear you enjoy us sharing our knowledge, I’m here to help! (I don’t have Tik Tok and probably won’t. As we’ve already talked about, I struggle with Instagram! Lol) As always, thank you for watching and for being a consistent supporter of the channel!
Thanks for the video. I do like the way my hair looks when I finger coil it but it's way too much work. Brush styling or just plain scrunching in the styling product is easier. And you're right, curl training doesn't make the curls curlier. It does make them look more defined for me and I like the results, but I'm not sure it's worth the time it takes.
Curl training has always sounded like too much work to me. The reason I wear my hair curly is because it’s quicker than trying to straighten it. Finger coiling would undermine my goal for speed.
I completely agree. Way too much work. I refuse to do it. I let my curls do what they do, random wonkiness and all. I feel like it’s the weird quirks that makes everyone’s curls so unique and special!
Hello again, thanks for clearing this up. One question: do you recommend perms for people like me who really, really want curly hair? My hair is wavy and I want curls so bad!!!
You’re welcome. I wouldn’t unilaterally recommend a perm because it really depends on each person’s hair. I also wouldn’t discourage it either. As long as your hair is in good condition and can handle getting a perm without frying it, I’d say go for it! I wouldn’t recommend a perm for someone who bleaches their hair. it’s a good way to have hair break right off. Hope this helps! Thank you for watching!
My hair is very frustrating because it's all curls about the size of my finger, with the crown of my head being the tightest (and insanely coarse and dry), but the very front top pieces have refused to hold anything but a very lazy wave and the only thing I haven't tried so far is olaplex 0+3. I feel guilty about it too, because unless I pull those pieces back I end up looking like a sad lampshade, so I feel like I've damaged my hair by tying it up constantly. The fact that the rest of my hair is high porosity to the front's medium only affirms that conclusion. I'm starting to feel like my only options are either a perm or a mullet, and I cannot stress enough how much I can't pull off a mullet. It's also proven impossible to find a hairdresser that knows what to do with my hair where I live, so I would be extremely grateful for any suggestions.
I knew it!!! Thanks! Just found your channel! What about the squish to condish theory? Is there any truth to squeezing you hair will drive water and conditioner further into it?
From what I see on social media, curl training tight curls is typically stylists removing raw oil and butter build up from a person's hair. They say it blocks water.
Hormone changes! I always had mostly very straight hair with patches of faint wave. I treated it as straight. I am in my 40s and suddenly my hair has a surprising amount of waves. Crazy. Still faint if i air dry, and i can brush it straight while wet, but a slight bit of product and lift (not even scrunch. Just take the weight off the ends) and the waves are 2b and 2c. After i plop i can air dry to get 2a and 2b waves or diffuse to get 2b and 2c. So. Crazy. Definitely nothing i did except have more birthdays.
Very interesting thank you. I am very curious as to how exactly did my once straight, shiny hair from my 20s turned into the woolly, wiry, Brillo pad texture it is in now in my late 40s? It is undyed, 30% grey and I very rarely use heat on it...🤔
It is not uncommon for hair to change as we age. I’ve seen straight go curly and curly go straight. I’ve seen texture changes. What causes it could be as simple as genetics, aging, and/or hormone changes. Or it could be something more complex like health issues (thyroid issues wreak havoc on the hair) and/or medication. It could be a combination of all the above. But you’re definitely not alone, in 20 years behind the chair I’ve seen clients go through all sorts of hair changes. Hope that helps a bit. Thank you for watching!
@@CurlyChelle547 it helps a lot to know that I am not alone, thank you! I realise I can blame my hypothyroidism and suspected perimenopause. But I am yet to meet a trichologist who can give me a detailed answer as to how exactly the changes occurred. Thank you so much for replying. Stay well 💙🙏🏻🕊🌞
Hi! I was wondering how hard the opposite effect was. I have wavy/curly hair, and I was taught from the childhood to dry brush every day. Now, after a lot of recommendations, I want to try brushing only when washing my hair but the habit is strong, and I may feel the urge to brush my hair from times to times. How heavy will be its long-time effect on my curls definition? Of course it will break the curls right away, but will my hair be less curly next time I wash?
Hey I may have missed it if you did but I thought I had heard you like the kinky curly curling custard. I just got some yesterday that I had ordered. And I have 3a/b, coarse, dense, thick, below shoulder length curls.. it tends to not need much protein and kinda wigs out if I use protein in products. Well that’s kind of the way it acted when I applied the KCCC. Just bc thick, hard, sticky almost like I applied super glue and then flashed dried.. I had just gotten outta the shower just brushed it out and added leave in so it was soaking wet follow directions and my hair just went nuts. Any ideas if there’s a ingredient in that would make my hair act that? It looked ok after drying and with the rainy humid weather today it didn’t last too good. But we’re getting the storms from the hurricane not just the scary stuff so that could play a part in today’s 2nd day hair. Just don’t want to come to terms with wasting $30 on a product 🙁before trying something else. Any advice or thoughts are welcome! Thank ya ma’am!
Yes, I love Kinky Curly Curling Custard! It’s entirely possible the aloe in it is giving you grief. It can cause flash drying and actually has amino acids in it. Also it’s a humectant. So is the agave nectar in the KCCC. My guess is that your current weather is not playing nice with the two humectants as far as how well it’s lasting for you. It could work better for you in less stormy conditions. Or try it with a different curl cream or leave in and be sure to seal with a serum at the end. Glad to hear you’re not getting the scary hurricane stuff! Stay safe in the storms! Thank you for watching!
My wavy/curly hair is curly at the top and straight at the bottom. Is that from pulling my hair up? I have been using a decent scrunchie but it's just weird
When you say bottom do you mean your ends? Or just the hair underneath? In either case that could just be your curl pattern. But your ends could be potentially damaged. So if you mean your ends and you have damage that’s growing out, it could be that it loosened your curl pattern. If you don’t have damage, then it could be just the way your hair curls. I can’t say with any certainty without seeing your hair. But it wouldn’t be from pulling it up, that only temporarily stretches the curls and they come back once they’ve gotten wet/shampooed again. Hope that helps! Thank you for watching!
@@CurlyChelle547 my ends, yes. My ends are pretty damaged I guess. If pulling my hair back won't cause my curls to get permanently stretched why do tons of people say not to pull your hair back?
@@shellgrlm because if it’s pulled back too tight it can cause breakage or even traction alopecia (hair loss due to stress on the scalp). Scrunchies are gentle on the hair, especially silk or satin scrunchies.
It depends on the reason it is no longer spiraling. If it’s damaged, then there’s a good chance that once health is restored that you’ll get back there. If the reason is hormonal, or medication, or just part of the natural changes that can happen over time then you might not get back the spirals. Hope this helps. Thank you for watching!

Thank you for confirming what I suspected in such an elegant and empirically sound way. As disappointed as I am, I am satisfied to be correct
Hey Chelle! Lately my hair is acting weird. No matter how wet I get it, it's not taking water, flash drying, very difficult to detangle and I have to use an insane amount of conditioner. My curl clumps are really stringy. I've tried multiple types of shampoo, conditioner, leave in, etc. Protein, no protein. I have a hard water filter and have tried clarifying Even using a deep conditioner it isn't getting soaking wet through in the shower, instant flash drying. Any thoughts?
So based on your information, a few possibilities are going through my head. I know you said you have a hard water filter and you clarify, but everything you described sounds like hard water buildup. Or the result of chlorine. Are you swimming in a chlorinated pool? Any possibility of chlorine in your water? Malibu C has swimmers shampoo. I’d also probably check the hard water filter just to be sure. Also, do you use clarifying shampoo or a chelating shampoo? A clarifying shampoo won’t do the job. It has to be chelating. Malibu C undo goo is my favorite. They also have well water shampoo and conditioner which is great for hard water. Or perhaps a product you recently started using does not agree with your hair at all. Maybe try going back to previous products that worked well for you. The other possibility is something internal. Either a health condition or medication. I don’t want to scare you with that one and I’m not a dr. So if your filter is functioning properly, you already use a chelating shampoo, you aren’t regularly exposed to chlorinated water, and you haven’t tried new products recently, perhaps a trip to the dr is in order for some blood work. Thyroid conditions are notorious for messing with hair. Hope this helps or points you in the right direction. Thank you for watching!

Can wave/curl pattern be damaged from not bleach but a lot of layered box dye and compulsive hair figeting?
Is my top layer hair not wavy if it falls straight and doesn’t hold the wave but does so if I put a lot of gel coating on and finger coil it?
Why did my hair bounce back and form ringlets right at the beginning of my curly journey but pretty soon started to get limper instead?
