    I owned a bottom spec W reg Metro which I bought myself in 1991 for my 40th birthday present to myself. It cost me a whole £400. One of the many cars I've had where I was the final owner before the scrapyard. Love your nerdyness. Wear it as a badge of honour

    People forget how basic cars were in the 80's. My 1988 Renault 5 TL that I had as my first car was one up from base so included decedent luxury such as a passenger side door pocket, analogue clock and rear.waah wipe but still no intermittent eipe of glovebox cover. People really take all these things for granted these days.
    Congratulations on your win Siion, the attention to detail really shows and thanks again for the interview.

    I aways a soft spot for the metro.
    I have had a few in my time.
    My second car was a Wreg mini metro 1.3 S (first car a 1979 mini clubman estate) it was my pride and joy when I was 17 in 1992.
    But I always loved the base model metros. Well done on your prize.

    Absolutely marvellous. My first car was a 1.0 City A954OCK in that colour. Can’t remember what the City spec was but I don’t remember headrests, it had non standard rectangular fog lights fitted, Audioline stereo and speakers,and some natty pinstripes 😂

    Great work congrats.
    I remember back in ‘96 a mate in school who I am still friends with now his grandfather had a well specced Metro he was breaking and on request he brought in 2 brown headrests and an ignition switch for my mums City. I didn’t have a locker and had to carry it around all day. I remember my French teacher asking why there were headrests on my desk!
    So funny, different times.
    Also going into a Metro breakers as a 12 year old and asking the local breakers for a passenger sun visor and two end caps for the bumper.

    Well done to you. Top marks for originality. I flashed back to being 1984 in a new metro. Loved it at that age, and we hired a brand new mk1 fiesta as our car broke down last minute.. I was enamoured. Had a mk 1 since in 1993, nearly got a metro a couple of times, but finances dictated at the time. Enjoy your channel.

    I have to say, I have a soft spot for the Mini-Metro, and yes, I'm old enough to remember the launch of it. Suggestion for a future video. I seem to remember that a saloon sister version was planned and did make it to the prototype stage, bit like the Maxi's Morris 1500 twin. What happened to the prototype and why wasn't it put into production, unlike the Vauxhall Nova?

    Congratulations & extremely well deserved, your Metro looks stunning, brilliant idea labelling all the none standard items. In the 70’s / 80’s Some well off people had Victorian values & had come through the war, so still drove base spec, as it was just a car. City / Popular / Merit, were probably the biggest sellers, white goods of the day

    Wow, amazing my Mums first Metro was a city, but had city written on the sides rather than the back????? said mini-metro on the back and plastic seats!!! no passenger sunvisor, but all the citys i can see have houndstooth and seem much better specification, i think it was vermillion???? orange basically, as a new 18 year old driver i old found a VP scrapper and added T shelf rubber mat thingy, passenger door mirror(held in place with fishing wire and duck tape) arm that held the door mirror was sculpted rather than a stubby bit so didnt fit, passenger velour sunvisor i had to glue as the screws didnt screw into the holes..... i guess there wasnt the capture bit in the holes to screw it in to...... i felt well posh.....oh and a glove box....that sort of didnt fit, wow those were the days. Always drove it with the air cleaner box off, sounded sportier then. Shit how things have changed. love your videos

    The carburettor mods seem like a really weird thing to have been done. Maybe it did leave the factory with the wrong ones because they happened to be what they had lying around on the day?

    • @MorselsAndMotors
      @MorselsAndMotors  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The whole carb was the HLE spec (and the identity tag confirmed it), so I’d say the entire unit was just swapped in at some point. Thankfully it’s easy to convert the HLE back to normal spec with a new needle, dashpot and plugging an extra vacuum line

    • @benc8386
      @benc8386 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MorselsAndMotors But who replaces a carb? Those SU carbs are basically 100% reliable. They just plain work. I still suspect this happened at Longbridge before the car went out. Are the tamper-proof seals still untampered with? Not dispositive evidence but if it had been replaced maybe it's more likely it would have been adjusted.
