- My mom and I head up for higher elevations and cooler climates in the Southern California Mountains. I'll be leaving California soon and wanted to take a little road trip with my momma before I move on for awhile. Our trip takes us to her local San Bernardino Mountains where we hang out at Big Bear Lake. Join us!

My Dad went to Yosemite when he was 7yo. When he was 80 we drove thru the park again. He remembered so much of the park even 73 years later. A great memory for both of us. Glad you enjoyed your time with mom.
I always say thank you for taking us with you this time you really did take me! Loved it so very beautiful up there especially the lake and the village. While you were on your hike I did go for a walk through a neighborhood saw lots of birds, cute cabins and a marina. Hi to all out there.

40 years ago for me. Well, we ran off to Vegas, but spent our honeymoon there. We're from San Dimas, but moved to Washington State 35 years ago. Still in/near the mountains.
As an older parent now, I love these trips with my “kids”. I spent a wonderful weekend in Big Bear 40 years ago and would love to go back!

In the late 1980s I was a Naval Officer assigned to a ship undergoing overhaul at Long Beach Naval Shipyard, which is about as different a place from what this video shows. It was horrible, all noise, and constant stress of ripping the ship apart and getting it repaired. But I had a brand new motorcycle. On Sundays I’d often leave early from my apartment on Ocean Blvd in Long Beach and head for the Big Bear Lake area. It took about 45 minutes on a freeway to get out of the LA metro blob and another 90 minutes or so of a beautiful ride on a scenic road to get there. I’d eat lunch and wander around, then head back. The ride there was always wonderful with the anticipation of escaping the sprawl of LA, and filled with dread when I hit the freeway to get home. Thank you a nostalgic look back to those Sunday’s. .

So many are misinformed and critical about our state, which is not perfect because there is no such thing and with 40 million + people living here is going to bring many issues, but we are doing fine overall. When I was living in San Diego, it was a very nice summer oasis camping and off roading with friends. Many many great memories.
The Cat way: soothing orchestral and piano recital music tastefully mixed with ambient bird calls and sounds of the trail underfoot along with a relentless eye for detail. She usually lets her camera do the talking while underway. It’s a style all her own and one all nature-lovers can appreciate. Mom is justifiably proud.

I used to live in Newport Beach. I could go sailing in the morning and then hang gliding in the San Bernardino Mountains in the afternoon.

I love going to big bear. I’ve been going up there since the late 1980’s and finally bought a cabin there in 1996.

Catherine, another beautiful video! So nice your mother could accompany you. I've always loved the Big Bear area. Did my very first backpacking trips in those mountains as well as my first time on skis. I was actually at Big Bear Lake the weekend of Father's Day. Beautiful as always, but I've never seen the water level so low in the lake! It's these ongoing years of drought and dryness that are contributing to the destructive wildfires plaguing the western U.S.A.
