I’ve been struggling with weed addiction this whole year. Been smoking for 10 years, but just decided to stop and now I’ve realized how bad my addiction is. Weed turns me into a one dimensional dopamine craving junkie. Weed leads me to more bad behaviors like overeating, watching porn, ghosting family and friends, and generally just staying in my room alone consuming content for hours on end and fearing the outside world. It also makes my coordination and reaction time worse to where I can’t even enjoy the things I like doing, like gaming or sports. Weed also makes me more depressed and anxious, as it takes me out of the present moment and makes me overthink. The crazy thing is my beliefs have shifted so much to thinking negatively about weed, but I still abuse it, and then the guilt of not following though with my beliefs causes me to use more. I want to reconnect with my old self and find joy and comfort in sobriety, but addiction is like quick sand, it seems that the more I try to fight it, the more it pulls me in, and at the end of the day, the only way I can get out is by reaching for a helping hand.

Not enough people talking about this side of it. It's just a drug at the end of the day and vulnerable people can suffer when it becomes a crutch. In moderation it's not so bad but moderation isn't exactly part of the discussion when it comes to weed. If I drank every morning and night I'd be considered a borderline alcoholic but if I smoke weed every day, I'm just your average bud smoker.

    • @mattjohnson3299

"Takes me out of the present moment and makes me overthink" yes I've got to this point even though weed helped my anger problems and loneliness although it probably kept me alone...anyway I agree with your sentiment. Problem is how you (I) think as far as oh just a hit or 2 will be nice and I can relax...when in turn I get lost in my head more easily. It simply doesnt have the same effect on everyone depending on their life/mental circumstances. Compared to alcohol/antidepressants I will say weed/cbd are better but sometimes sobriety is needed :)

No you can do it yourself just do it. Quit, dont smoke for a week and realize the great feeling of not smoking, you will have withdrawals and it will be stressful but just do it. Use alcohol to cope until you get sick of alcohol by the time you hate alcohol you'll be about a month sober from weed and go from there

20 years smoker here (off and on) and I can say 100% sure it is addicting, especially these days. The potency is way too high for most people. I cut back a lot over the past few years. I only do it a couple times a week. Only at night after ALL WORK IS DONE.

    • @undiscoveredcolorz
      @undiscoveredcolorz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +44

Dabs made me realize thc can be a potent and addictive drug, on a non physical level. I was smoking half gram to a gram of concentrate a day at one point and I sure felt like I needed it mentally. I got past that and realized I didn't need it and it was holding me back, quitting was actually really easy and withdrawal symptoms were basically non existent. I'd never go back to concentrates, but bowl/joint of medium potency flower isn't so bad. This is probably a problem relating to my specific physiology though. I don't handle liquor well either, but a beer/glass of wine or two is fine and I don't go off the deep end.

I'm that way too. I think personality has a lot to do with the addition honestly. I do enjoy smoking with friends at any time of the day when I'm not working, but I typically just smoke weed before bed. I personally enjoy being sober throughout the day and it makes it a nice treat before I sleep.

My ex came from a dysfunctional family that all smoked and drank together openly (my ex is 20 and has smoked and drank since high school with her sister and dad) and she chose her lifestyle of drinking and smoking over our relationship after telling me she had no issue cutting down to every once in a while. She’s also pretty lazy and is only working 12 hours a week, has bills to pay, and yet complains about how she has no money to take classes at the community college. I’m biased but I think weed is disgusting. Part of it is my religious beliefs but honestly weed is just something I don’t want to be around at all personally, especially since I’m in flight school and need to stay sober to fly and be healthy. It’s definitely addictive in my experience, but I guess I’m for the decriminalization of it.

I have absolutely been addicted to pot in the past, and used it as a coping mechanism. I do think it’s much easier to cut back on than certain other addictions if you need to though, and the biggest drawback for most people seems to be laziness. In comparison to being addicted to alcohol, the day after binge-drinking I sometimes lose the whole day trying to recover from a hangover, my stomach and insides feel fucked up and I have anxiety or am in a really bad place mentally. The day after getting stoned however I usually just feel much more relaxed than normal.

I've written a paper on this and have done research/studies based on this. You are somewhat correct but not entirely, I don't mean to discredit your experiences either as everything is different for each individual. But the fact of the matter is, weed is not an addictive drug, what is addictive is the effects you get used to from prolonged exposure, this can be related to a hobby for example as it releases dopamine and makes you happy and excited. The same thing that weed can do for people, you get addicted to this feeling of euphoria and so you go back to it the only way you know how, by using more weed in your life. This can be substituted with any other hobby really, addiction to games, comfort activities, etc - through repetition and comfort you are conformed to the feelings and this is what causes the extended effects of addiction, not the drug.

Been a consistent smoker for 13 years. Took a few breaks here and there , but I am currently on my longest break and haven't smoked for months. It is a situation where mileage will vary from person to person. I realized after more than a decade that weed was a form of escapism for me. I was suffering from anxiety and depression my whole life and weed helped me cope with those things. But I never truly addressed the root of those problems, I kept sweeping them under the rug. I started seeing a psychiatrist and got medicated. My life has changed for the better and I am now going after my goals and dreams . It's never to late to become who you might have been. I miss weed sometimes , but I am in a much better place now and feel if I smoke again it might bring back those depressive and anxious thought patterns from the past. I think much more clearly nowadays and don't have that brain fog. I will always be an advocate for weed. If it helps you, good, but if it's doing harm for you, getting in the way of living your best life or if it's just a form of escapism as it was for me, then I urge you to reevaluate your relationship with marijuana.

@christopher wallbank I get what you are saying, but I cant explain to you the chemistry behind it ... all I can say is that when I was smoking and jerking off all the time I was in a constant state of anxiety and depression. But now I feel calm and at ease with life. I know pills aren't the healthiest, all I can tell you is my personal experience. They allowed me to get my life back again and I agree they aren't for everyone. For some people marijuana helps them feel calm and at ease and i support that. But that wasn't the case for me. To each his own, you just have to be honest with yourself. If smoking doesn't get in the way of you living your best life , then carry on! But if you find that it is doing harm for you and in the way of you living your best life then you must reevaluate things and do that which is best for you. Some of my friends thought i abandoned them because i dont chill with them as much and smoke all day with them like i used to, but I am in a much better mental state. It hurts me that they feel that way, but I had to do what was best for my mental health not what was best for them.

Been using nicotine for around the same amount of time and if I don't get nicotine in the morning I feel insanely horrible, crazy anxiety, stomach butterflies, can't do anything. And they say that feeling lasts for around a month when stopping nicotine before it starts to get any better (I wouldn't know because I can't commit to stopping because I wake up feeling so shitty and I need it to get out of bed and work) I stop smoking weed and I wake up a lil foggy from smoking the night before and maybe a lil bloated from eating too many pop tarts, and then feel completely normal.. lmao, just my experience tho

You're realizing now what I always deep down knew, but could only finally reckon w/ at 26 years old... I mean that's one decade I smoked near daily, and I mean very seldom did I have days I couldn't/wouldn't smoke and I think the longest break I took was ~4 months cold turkey at 22ish.. I had some fantastic effin times don't get me wrong, but I'd say the last 4 years especially I was just in a dark place. Very lonely. Very unmotivated. Always in a fog. Very depressed. And finally developed severe anxiety.. And weed was not to blame for all of it, there were many outstanding factors that had led me to feeling these ways, being in the position in life I was, etc... But the thread that connected them all - that, if I'm just being honest never had the mental fortitude to accept - was weed being a constant.
Long story short it just makes you okay with being bored... And at some point you kinda look around and realize you're not really doing anything other than chilling. Your emotions are neutral, not sad but never excited. Just kinda numb.. And you want to be doing more and you see the time wasted and you try to think of ways to change your pattern but instead you smoke and watch TH-cam more.
Personally took me a long time to stop thinking about weed constantly when I did quit. A year tbh. And it's only been about 2 years now, but only now am I realizing just how much it was impacting me the entire time.....

Anyway, I'm late 20s now and have a lot of responsibility, and the anxiety was recently becoming a problem off the back off covid and the general state of the world. I actually developed what is called panic disorder.
What I did was started just growing my own weed. There are strains out there that are low thc and high in cbd for example. I started exploring sativa v indica, and how the strains effect you.
I also would never touch a bong or edibles that are too strong. I smoke small joints and mix it with tobacco and its just enough to keep my spirits high, make me creative and stress free.
