  • This video explains ellipses in easy to understand terms, talks about how to construct cylinders in isometric perspective, and shows simple exercises for you to practice to get better at drawing!
*EDIT: At 1:34 should say an 85º ellipse is almost round, at 90º it becomes a perfect circle.

I have suddenly understood how and why the minor axis degree changes all because of how well you explained it. I'll remember this for life. Thanks for the awesome video!!

The minor axis of each endcap should align whether it is isometric or not. (Though, not when there is a fish-eye lens distortion)

This video focuses on the basics with isometric perspective. I have two more videos that discuss ellipses dealing with linear point perspective.

sometimes we feel that something needs to be drawn a certain way.. but we don't know why.. it's always a good idea to understand the science behind it

Yes! Our brains will recognize something is “off” subconsciously, so learning the terminology and logic helps us figure out how to make our drawings better. Thanks Shatila!!

Helo! What books and other studies can we have for a better understanding of this subject besides you? How can I get more about it!

Ellipses are one the hardest thing to draw when i was first learning how to draw...I've burned through stacks of copy paper and black pens practicing the ghosting method... fun times. :)
