I am happy that you shared your experience and happy to hear you are on a good path to recovery. I had the same surgery May 12 of this year (2020). I may make this video and share my recovery too :). My surgery went great. I was able to start walking short walks the first week. Week 1-3 my issues were, stiffness, leg pain and lower back pains; but there were more like muscle pains, not my original issue. I was unable to sit or lay in one place to long no more than 30 mins or more; long car trips were not good for me. I felt pain when I sneezed, so I hated sneezing...but as with time i got better every day. Some days I took longer walks, approximately 1.5 - 2 mile walks in the neighbor hood, and I would feel sore the next day, but It was a good feeling. I tried to do short jogs a few times, but painful and my lungs would get winded form 2 min light trot (not quite a jog). BTW, I was in good shape in 2019, so it is a bit of surprise to me that I am getting winded so fast. I just completed week 7 of my recovery. I am able to swim, and lift some dumbbells (25lbs). I am not able to Jog yet, but I plan to get on a bike and build my cardio. Lastly...I have not taken ANY pain meds since I left the hospital, my last pain med was May 12th and I am 49 years of age. So..... I would say my recover is nothing shore of awesome. Best advise I can give anyone is to walk every day for short distances, get of the pain meds asap, walk 2-3 times a day leading up to one long walk a day. Some light resistance training is helpful, but be careful on your limitations. Carrying a 10lb med ball from point A to B is a good start. Get plenty of rest, and eat good healthy meals along with drinking plenty of water!

@@AJLORACLE Hey. I thought I would check on you have you had your surgery yet? As for an update I am in week 10 and I've been to the gym about 5 times now primarily the elliptical and some upper body resistance such as bench pressing our triceps or biceps. My flexibility is better my pain is very low but I still have what I'm going to call Daily credits so I can do a good workout may be cut the grass take a nice walk but after that activity I am a bit stiff and a little sore but every day gets better I've even been able to run a bit but not long probably 2 or 3 minutes but I repeat everything is getting better and I'm definitely getting healthier by the day

Hi Matt! Thank you for making these videos and bringing everyone together. Nothing like getting personal testimonials from people who went through the same thing you are going through. I had the same procedure done a week ago and I am going thorough what you went through. I hope to make a short video as well when I feel well enough. I would like to thank everyone else for sharing their experience as well.
I have dealt with this problem for the past fourteen years and also had microdiscectomy when it all started. It has been downhill ever since!!
I am sore everywhere, but I just feel like ALIF May have been what I needed! I already feel better, but I get discouraged when the radiating pain (going down the legs) comes back from time to time. I am a physician. I have talked to many doctors before going for the procedure as well. I have read a lot about the problem and the surgery, but nothing is more comforting than the words of the people who have gone through what I am going through. Again, thank you Matt and everyone else for sharing your experience. I will say more when I have enough progress to share. Take care of yourself everyone.

I'm 7 weeks post L5 S1 and I'm feeling really great. I had 0 pain at stomach incision and on back since surgery. I do have numbness still on big toe, around ankle and shin that I didnt have pre-surgery but I have feeling if you touch them, so I'm sure it will come back, does not impede my walking at all. Go slow with walking. Keep your mind busy. It was hard for me to have family do everything so my recovery was more mental because I was very active. I'm still icing my back after being on my feet for periods, it just feels good. Still taking Tylenol 2x day. But all I really had was deep aching in back. Am taking short drives to stores and 2-20 min walks outside on flat areas. Doing very light housework if its waist high-no bending. Make sure to have a grabber! And my doctor didn't think I needed PT but have started because I was hobbling and had some weakness. Already seeing improvement with PT. Just take it day by day, let people help you and remember it's a process! If I can have both hips replaced in one year and fusion the following, you can do it!!!

I just had a L5-S1 360 fusion, prior to the surgery I had severe sciatica pain in my right leg, I was struggling to walk even 20m at a time. The surgery was carried out on the 29th June 2022 (approx 2 weeks ago) I stayed in hospital for 5 days, following my return home the first 5 days or so were pretty tough. However now I am feeling great, the only medication I am taking is Panadol, I am now walking pain free 2.5km/30 mins twice per day, the previous sciatica pain issue has been resolved. I am due to start physio this coming week. Prior to the fusion I had tried multiple epidural injections, a select nerve root block injection & lumbar decompression surgery, all failed to resolve the issue.

Things are going well. My soreness is almost gone so I'm able to cough and blow my nose without much trouble. I walked a half mile yesterday without much trouble. My chief complaint before sure was back pain and weakness in my right leg so walking long distance will be a bit of a challenge until the nerve starts repairing itself. Hope all is well with everyone that has had surgery or has up coming surgery. Thumbs up everyone! 👍 👍

Hi Matt, more greetings from Poland. I had my ALIF L5-S1 in Poland 11 days ago, so we're on a similar path. You are two weeks ahead, so I would have a few questions for you, including neuralgia below the incision (I have vertical on the left side of the abdomen), shots and a slight stinging in the leg, and a few common issues regarding diet, medications, calcium and vitamin D, belt lumbar etc. If you feel like it, we can exchange emails.
I have a long way to go, because 13 years ago I had 3 microdiscectomies and now I was close to ADR in Germany or Spain - but I ended up at ALIF. We're going ahead, buddy.

@@Schurks After the procedure, I felt irritation for about a month, something like a burn, but now, after three months, I can't feel it anymore, maybe a very slight denervation of the skin. It's definitely reversible irritation of the skin nerves.

Sebastian Szozda how you doing after 3 months?

    • @sebastianszozda8474
      @sebastianszozda8474 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@mansor974 Unfortunately, not so good. After 6 weeks I started to have problems with the gluteus medius muscle. Pain moved to the area around the trochanter. I also have a problem with ilio-lumbar muscles. I feel discomfort from the root of L5-S1 probably because I have dislocated adhesions from previous operations. But things are getting better and better. I can sit much longer without pain than before the fusion. The surgery itself and the scar on the front is not a problem. Everything healed perfectly. Fusion is a shock to the body, everything moves and it takes time to adjust. Especially if anyone had a 3 microdiscectomy like me before.

I'm going on just over three weeks now and I'm doing pretty good considering. I'm still walking about a mile a day and I'm able to cook and do normal things around the house. I'm not suppose to bend lift anything over 10 lbs and twist. I can squat a little so that helps my mobility as long as I keep my back straight. I had my post follow up last week so I can now shower and drive. I've been grocery shopping with my daughter so she can help with heavy stuff. I drive to Wal-Mart and walk around it few times to get my walks in. I quit taking pain meds after two days in the hospital and I take Tylenol every once in a while. Ice is your friend to keep down inflammation so I do that once day. Things are going well as I look forward to physical therapy and get going again. For those of you wondering about pain I would say there is some pain and discomfort but the body recovers faster than you think. Just have patience and know that everyday is a better day. Good luck for all that has read this and is having up coming surgeries. if you have any questions please ask away

I had ALIF/TLIF on Tuesday L4-S1. I know it's not even a week in yet so I have to have reasonable expectations. But I'm am so freaking sore and in so much pain. My upper legs ache too. I just hope I can conquer the pain without using the Oxy all the time.

I am preparing for the same surgery. The doctor told me I can probably return to work in 2-3 weeks after surgery.

Hi Matt thank you for sharing your update on your surgery. I had the same procedure done on July 6. And boy I understand what your going through. I'm on my month and one week, I'm not having pain on my right leg and my sciatic is not hurting anymore. Only thing i am having is cold toes, and my left foot hurting ALOT. It wakes me up at 2 am and with gabapentin, oxycodone and muscles relaxers and nothing helps. Doctor gave me patches and my God those worked. But when I take it off I feel like a truck driver hit me from front and back. Please let us updated on your recovery. Love that you are rushing your recovery, just like me. I just say let God heal me and let it take its course. It was best the we did what we did for our health and family.

Things are going about as good it could be. I'm walking a mile a day and I'm still just taking Tylenol when I need to but find it better to take it every 6 hours whether I need them or not. My incision pain is down to a level of about two and suspect it will be kind of raw for another two to four weeks. Overall I feel good but having to fight off the boredom a little bit and the frustration of just not being able to do things for a while. Hope all is well with everybody getting over their surgeries and anybody that got one scheduled.

Things are going well as can be expected at this point. I keep busy and get my excersizes in. Eating good is key. Lots of plant based protein for muscle repair and the usual fruits and veggies. I made some beef stew yesterday TaaDaaa!!! I see my Dr Friday for my first follow up and hopefully he'll let me drive. I'll get back with everyone after my follow up

I’m 6 weeks out of Alif/plif L5/S1. I watched your videos before the surgery and would love to hear your one year update. I’ve been really blessed with a pretty good recovery so far . But this last week I’ve had some back /hip discomfort. Just wondering how it’s going after a year.

Any updates Roger? Can you describe your pain where it was like what positions you had pain etc.. I keep thinking I am going to need a Fusion at L5S1 but want to make sure that is what is causing my pain before I go through with it. Thanks for any updates.

Hey, I had the same surgery May 12 of this year (2020). I may make this video in the near future. But I can tell you my surgery went great. I was able to start walking short walks the first week. I would be stiff from sitting for 30 mins or more in one spot was not good, long car trips were not good. I could feel pain when I sneezed, so I hated sneezing...but as with time i got better every day. Some days I took longer walks, approximately 1.5 - 2 mile walks in the neighbor hood, and I would feel sore the next day, but It was a good feeling. I just completed week 7 of my recovery. I am able to swim, and lift some dumbbells (25lbs). I am not able to run much (light jog) no more than 1 minute or 2. Lastly...I have not taken ANY pain meds since I left the hospital and I am 49 years of age. So..... I would say my recover is nothing shore of awesome. Best advise I can give you is walk every day for short distances, walk 2-3 times a day leading up to one long walk a day. Get your rest, and eat good healthy meals and drink plenty of water.
