@@notarmchairhistorian7779 "alternative argument"? I'd say violence is the primary mode of change in human history. There's been many notable examples of non violent change to varying effect. But when competition hits a certain level of intensity it usually always becomes violent. Even the most placid and meek people are only a few events away from becoming savage. But the veneer of civilization is a fine coating that keeps it together most of the time. Let us be blessed those of us who are. Because we all could be this or worse if we came from a different place at a different time.

Mexican military and police work with the cartels. The cartels are an extension of the government and fund almost everything. Cartels will often go after police when they are caught robbing tourists, in many cases the cartels are the moral authority over corrupt police/military. There are no clear victims or heroes between the two, but in the last decade the cartels have been trying to position themselves as the heroes and protectors of tourists against street gangs and corrupt police.

Mexican military is literally at war with the cartels. Therefore, they are the enemy. It's unfortunate it even had to come down to this but it's the reality.

There is also a lot of corruption in the Mexican army. Not long ago General Cienfuegos, who previously was head of the ministry of defense, was arrested in US for charges of narcotraffic. The mexican government extradited him with the promise of a a trial. He was freed after some days. Drug trafficking money goes deep into every corner of the Mexican government. The army uses the force not seeking justice, but to their own monetary interests.

That's no true, the authority in USA could not demostrate anything and the judge released him. If he was guilty then there is corruption. In the American court too.

It's frustrating that a lot of people replying from the comfort of places like Western Europe or the U.S. are so judgemental.
It's wrong, and it shouldn't be tolerated, but in some of these places people live with a lot of fear that most of the world doesn't have to deal with.
I hope the people they killed were indeed guilty. They deserved a trial. I don't particularly feel any sympathy for them if they were involved in that kind of world, though.

@@camelwheel8198 I’ve witnessed and heard of plenty sins happening in churches, so I wouldn’t be surprised 🤷‍♂️ but I think an important line of that passage is, “to be seen by others.” The context of those prayers matters. I’m sure some people are praying in church for selfish reasons, but others aren’t, and plenty of people aren’t praying there at all: they’re being preached to. I think your type of “prayer” in the TH-cam comments are much more clearly an attempt, “to be seen by others.”
