Very cool. My grandfather from Ozone Park who lives in Baldwin, used to own a '78 Rockwell Commander 114. He kept it up in Sidney, NY.

My Grandparents and mother lived in Baldwin. They were on Irving Place. Was so beautiful back then.

Deer Park Airport was located near the southeast corner of Commack Rd and Grand Blvd. The aviation school, part of L. A. Wilson Tech (BOCES), was on Grand Blvd east of Commack Rd . I do not remember the name of the corner street, although from Google maps it might be Lucon St. The school was for aspiring Aviation Mechanics or A & P's. The site opened in late 1970 and eventually relocated to Republic Airport in Farmingdale. Hope this helps.

Thanks Andy! This was a nice TH-cam find. I grew up on Headline Rd., and if I’m not mistaken, many of these photos are from Tony Gambino’s operation. My dad would often rent a C152 from him and took me up a bunch of times.

We would ride our mini bikes in the sand pit behind the airport.

Is there anything left of the airfield or buildings?

@@michaelvolk5828 I'm pretty sure not a trace. Its 250 apartments now, and Zahn's is an industrial park. I couldn't even locate Fitzmorris field in Massapequa, that was before my time. Bayport Aerodrome is still open and there are a few biplanes there in the "new" hangers ( 40 years old)
