Personally, my favorite thing about Arceus is the change in goals. I liked that catching Pokemon felt encouraged and rewarding. Only Pokemon game where I've completed the Dex.
Exactly. Completing the dex with those small changes made it almost feel like you're an actual field researcher. All the different ways to complete it too made it really fun
Doing the goals to complete the Pokédex was fun, challenging, and made a lot of sense! In every other Pokemon game, you catch a Pokémon once and you know everything about it. In PLA, you actually had to work to complete it. And another one of my favorite things about PLA that exceeds all Pokémon games, which will include SV- you could complete the game/Pokédex ALL by yourself. No trading nightmares. Sadly we are back to that, but I’m still really looking forward to SV!
Even more, the game also encourages you to optimize your research by creating the best situation to earn points, you could even create an entire speedrun community devoted to complete the Pokédex as quickly as possible.
For me one of the best features in legends that kept me engaged where the pokedex task, it was fun to complete the pages with doing more than just capturing the pokemon. I hope that even if they aren't in SV, they would return in future games.
I agree! I Liked how you didn’t have to do them all to complete the dex! I also liked how completing a Pokémon’s dex task increased the their shiny chances
@@ivyproductions7097 It was a great feature, but I was a little dissapointed that there weren't some more unique tasks, wether they happen in side quests or not. Would be cool if there were things like seeing a pokemon find food in their own unique way, or like maybe all the zubat hang on ceilings in the day and you need to find them asleep and awake to complete the task, or like for grafaiai, finding actual grafaiai marks out in the world. Stuff that requires a bit more then just throwing a lot of balls and evolving the same species 4 times.
that’s something i wouldn’t want in a mainline game, however it was my favourite feature in PLA, and i hope all future Legends games have that feature maybe even fleshed out some more such as raising a pokemon from its first form to its last (raising a pichu to a raichu) and stuff like that which i think would be fun
SV has 3 seamless storylines, of course numerous Side-Quests and then the whole Tera-raid aspect for Co-op party's. No; We're not going to get 'N' number 2 and a Skyrim-beating storyline - but then Pooemon doesn't do that sort of thing: all that 'thick plot' from gen5 was mostly Reddit lore that was confirmed 10 years later.
It would be really cool in this game. It would also be the modern setting to do it in considering were students in a school. Even if it's just an extra credit thing that's only there for added benefits or personal choice.
My hope for Scarlet and Violet is that it’s actually good. We just had a big win in another divided community with Sonic Frontiers, so it’d be nice to have the same deal with Pokémon.
Well, there are people who dislike Sonic Frontiers...I just think the negative voices are not being heard...yet. Personally, I love it despite it's flaws.
As a Pokemon Fan that wants what is best for Pokemon I would love to have a win because PLA was the first console win for Pokemon! I'm hoping Scarlet and Violet is fun and another win.

The reason why Frontiers it's such an experimental take on sonic was precisely because Forces was such a disaster that Sonic team had to do something a bit more creative and focused, granted because of the release date i'm sure it still had a bunch of crunch and thus didn't reach it's full potential. But this won't happen with Pokemon. Every Pokemon game is a win, at least in the way where the company cares, that is, financially a win, which every Pokemon game is. Even as controversial as SwSh was, it still was the most sold pokemon game yet, and LA only had to fix a few times to "restore" people's faith on the franchise, so what this tells me is that we'll be going at a one step forward, two steps back kinda deal where GameFreak doesn't have to do much on improvements, and the games will still be successful.
Seeing this made me very happy, not specifically the video itself, but that I know for a FACT that Arlo will not just randomly show leaks that I've been avoiding like the plague. I can TRUST this blue creature to not randomly go "oh hey here's the final evolutions of the starters that were leaked" with little to no warning.

If you’ve never heard of him, he does Pokémon content and does an insanely good job covering tons of Pokémon news right when it comes out and and when dealing with spoilers he puts a very long warning and only covers them at the end of the video so people who are avoiding them still have some stuff to watch before clicking away. His content is amazing (and there’s a great chance you know him and this was for nothing lol)

Arlo couldn't be more right about the pepper grinder. When you've got that fresh black peppery goodness on your bacon, mashed potatoes, or corn on the cob, it's indescribably fantastic.
Nice seeing another freshly ground pepper enjoyer. I never understood why people even liked pepper until I tried it fresh. It's got that bit of heat no other spice gives in the same way.
I want violet and scarlet to be games tht heal the wounds left by sword and shield. It has been years since I was this hyped and excited for a Pokémon game (or any game).

Personally my hopes for it are that the story is interesting with the whole exploration and discovery theme, and that it has challenge to it. Everything else I want to mention has been leaked already though
After reviewing the leaks, the story here is a step above everything but Gen 5. If that's what you want you'll probably be happy. It's still not very difficult but literally no pokemon game has been difficult.
Well there's always Breath of the Wild if you really are talking about 'empty'. There's only 8 Gyms *and* their associated towns (2 of them large Cities) here in Scarlet/Violet, nevermind Us Pokémon fans chilling on Our Legendary Ridemon given to you virtually @ the Start. As opposed to a totally tacked-on and jarring Motorbike Link rides - *only given to you* after 1000+ hours of grinding those identikit boxed-in puzzles of course!)
I'm getting Scarlet because it looks more natural to ride the Legendary Pokemon from the past rather than the Violet one. A friend is also trading me Ceruledge because thats the only reason I want Violet
I don’t remember the lead up to Sword and Shield but I’ve seen a lot more ppl looking forward to Scarlet & Violet so I have high hopes for this Gen and hopefully I can start my Pokemon marathon next year
The build up to Sword and Shield was quite a controversial time. Everybody was angry at the dex cuts and how GameFreak lied. Some people even decided to boycott the game. Obviously the boycott failed miserably because SwSh is the 2nd best selling Pokemon game of all time. But yeah, I feel like the Sword and Shield buildup was just filled with a lot of angry people.
@@basketman2517 I boycotted. Been w/ Pokemon since its inception. I do not own Swrd/Shld, haven't played them, don't plan to, and can't say that for any other mainline Poke-game. The series chose stagnancy and lies in the Swrd/Shld era, and I didn't forget that. That said, this game looks much improved, and Arceus likewise upped the bar for the developers, improving my attitude towards the series again. Thoroughly excited for Friday!
I think Open World IS the way to go for Pokemon's Main Series. Legends showed a lot of benefits to it even though it's technically spinoff territory, but the main series has always been focused on exploring and catching Pokemon and a lot of what it wants and the vibe it wants to give off is one of those things that fits with open world better than series' that are more story driven. It has the basic ingredients baked in that open world games benefit from, unlike Zelda which had to try to invent a lot of that stuff on the spot with Breath of the Wild, and people still debate some of those decisions. One detail I hope this game can capitalize on (even though I'm not planning to get it personally) is good TRAVERSAL. It's the biggest thing the Breath of the Wild innovated on that influenced open world/zone games in recent years in a positive way, and with newer games letting you fly and dash and hover and zoom all over the place in increasingly cool ways, the player's motorcycle mons in this really need to deliver a fluid and fun traversal experience. I think that'll be a big component of success for it, and people could truly love it because it's an actual creature to bond with, which is actually fairly unique in this new era of high-traversal open world games. Maybe after this we'll see a new open world action or RPG game feature some rideable mounts/monsters as one of its main draws.
The thing im liking the most out of Pokemon sv is the fact that, based on what I already saw in leaked gameplay, the world feels alive. The Pokémon aren't just there but are also doing stuff. Some will be hanging on trees others will be walking on them, swimming in lakes, etc

Yeah I think the past & future themes might be an intentional reference to that. One foot in the future, one stuck in the past. Kinda hope they'll be able to nail it down on the next mainline entry, but I'm not holding my breath.
We've actually had grit items since Pokemon Black and White with the Wings (feathers) that increase by 1 point, and the vitamins to do it by 10 points.
I LOVED the research stuff in Arceus. I really hope that they carry that through - or at least announce the next Legends game soon with the same idea in it: it makes actually catching Pokemon fun. Arceus is the only Pokemon game I've ever completed the Dex for, and I think there's a lot of others who are the same.

I saw the leaks, and honestly… they’ve been doing a better job getting me hyped for the game than the actual official content lol. I won’t say anything ofc, but there’s this one absolutely SICK looking grass type pokemon I’m excited to learn more about… That being said, the leaks are MASSIVE. If you don’t care much for whatever the hell is going on with SV though, I recommend looking into them as someone who did not give a single damn from the first trailer. Edit: Oh, speaking of which- I actually really like the starter evolutions. For such mid first evolutions, I think Quaxly’s last evo in particular is my favorite, which is weird, bc I was 100% expected it to stay dead last. I’m very pleasantly surprised!

As a fellow Mareep fan myself, I will be gunning for a Dragon, Fairy or Flying Terra Type. Electric is already really good, and being able to flip strategically will be fun XD
i'm feeling really good ab scarlet and violet, ik the game is going to have lots of problems but the concept of past and future forms of the same pokémon and stuff is such a good concept i think it will carry the game a little bit
Disagree with Arlo on Arceus only having the graphics rushed. There were many obvious open world mechanics that have been a staple from Oblivion onwards that they didn’t do. Example: You have to travel to the home town in order to move to a new area. Gets old real quick.
yeah i feel the point on grit items. it's kinda nice to just play the game and not to have to worry how defeating random pokemon will affect your EVs XD i do hope they'll make a come back
13:18 This is where I differ severely. I loved Black and White version because of its linear, story-driven structure. I can't imagine the story in this one will be all that interesting when the whole thing is free form and go wherever you want and do the gym leaders in any order. Open worlds just have too many trends that I'm sick of seeing, and the villain team being basically enemy camps is one of them.
I think it _could_ work (I think Breath of the Wild did story well), but I'm a bit worried about the three-pronged structure. Normal Pokémon already often feels disjointed because you've got two main plots going on that don't really connect (Black and White being the only games to combine the "become champion" and "beat the evil team" plots), and actually separating them might make it even worse. It's a similar issue to Octopath Traveler. Even though the plots are related, because it's not made explicit, it just feels a little disjointed.
@@klop4228 I'm fine with disjointed if you pace them out decently. A balance of gym stuff, evil team stuff and then traveling to new routes stuff. You can make it flow to together nicely if it comes in a set order. But making it open ended usually means nothing can have a greater level of importance than anything else. Since you brought up BOTW I found the shrines and divine beasts pretty boring since they have a very flat progression curve, compared to dungeons in past Zelda games that get tougher the further you go. I also didn't find the story very interesting, with each divine beast quest kinda feeling like the same thing over and over, and the rest was just optional flashbacks. The rest of the game is just wandering around collecting stuff until you feel like beating Ganon. I can't see that kind of thing working for Pokemon. Especially in a turn based rpg.
Having seen the story leaks it’s clear they worked on it this time around, I wish I wasn’t spoiled because the plot climax is really really cool imo. I think people will enjoy it
Story-driven game would be great but I feel like after BW they really dropped the ball with storytelling. SM/USUM had some decent plot-elements but personally I didn't like how it tried to tell the story. The cutscenes became longer and just repeated the same animations over and over.
Personally I feel the same about open world games. Open world games also get repetitive because its really hard to think of unique things to do for every area. Idk maybe its the games I've played but less open world games (or games trying to be open world but aren't actually) would be appreciated
I feel you on the Pokemon designs. I warmed up to the Sword and Shield designs, but I don't WANT to warm up to them. I want to see one and immediately add it to my team because I LOVE it.
They're never going to get rid of status, EVs/IVs and abilities because of competitive players like myself and WolfeyVGC. But they can continue to improve on them for team building. Like I can see Frostbite and Drowsy sticking around over Freeze and Sleep. And as someone who is a competitive player, or wants to get back into it since I mostly stuck to online battling in SwSh, I am really hype for Terastallization. It looks like a mix of Z moves, mega evolution, and GMax. With the type change that's the mega mechanic sticking around. With power ups that's GMax and Z moves. With it lasting the entire battle, also a Mega Mechanic. I don't know what it is about these games in particular that gets me so hype to try competitive battling again, but I am READY to dive back in and try to become the very best like no one ever was.
I think terrastalizing has more tactical potential than the other mechanics. I'm dying to try out some curse sets using terrastalizing to switch in/out of ghost type.
@@LaughingBat I love the fact that it looks like the gym leaders don't just have pokemon that ARE the normal type, but the TERA TYPE too. Like the grass leader having sudowoodo but the tera type is grass so it fits. That's genius. I hope EVERY Gym leader has that cause before, what always bugged me about the mechanic, was that the leaders didn't USE it. They fixed that after Gen 6. That was a MASSIVE mistake not having the gym leaders use mega evolution. But in Gen 7 the Island Kahunas used z moves, gym leaders in gen 8 used gmax and dmax for the most part, and now gen 9 I hope that trend continues. ohhhh you can have so much fun screwing with people's heads with team building and tera types lol
12:45 Arlo, NEVER apologize for wanting more in a Pokémon game. GameFreak has been underperforming for a decade. It's the biggest franchise in the world and they have been consistently giving us games with cut mechanics, cut Pokémon, cut corners, and graphics that I would expect from an indie development team. You're not spoiled. You just have reasonable expectations and you're holding them to the standard that they themselves set back in the early 2000s.
You brought up a good point with the money. It would be cool if we could buy furniture for like our room or for the school. I also really like the idea of buying more space for your bag
I've been more excited for scarlet and violet than I've been for any other game, I really hope it does a new job of taking the series in a new direction and builds off of what arceus accomplished!
I actually like EVs, but not how they’re handled. It allows you to to “customize” a lot of Pokémon, and it prevents sweepers and wall breakers from being too tanky, and tanks from being too strong and fast. It’s just an incredibly tedious method. They should just let you customize them in a menu. And they could keep the old method as well in case anyone actually wants to use that.
I remember a (Touhou) fangame doing just that, giving you a menu where you'd spend an EV equivalent or whatever stat you wanted. That was nice. And certainly not as obtuse as actual Pokémon's way of handling that.
I can't WAIT! for this game. God, I'm so excited. I hope it's big, and I hope it's got a lot of cool sub areas like caves and whatnot. I hope there's more ghost types than just that dog too
I hope that the game does not disappoint, that it meets my expectations of a pokemon game (it goes without saying that I've lowered my standards quite a bit, but I just hope it's good).
Honestly, I don’t really care about the games at this point. I think it might be franchise fatigue, but I’m not even gonna assume that the games will blow me away. All I’d be doing is setting myself up for disappointment. I just don’t see modern Pokémon as a worthwhile investment at this point. TL;DR: I think I’m just gonna find a different game to play this month.
Tbh SV will probably be a make or break for me. If it sucks, I'm probably done with newer pokemon games. Though PLA was a nice change of pace so I have some hope for SV.
I adored Legends Arceus, so one of the biggest worries I've had thus far about ScaVio is whether or not it will play like that. Fortunately, just about everything I loved about Arceus is coming back (minus the wild catching) which makes me very excited for next week.
I'm honestly hoping that the Battle Tower will let you use all 6 of your Pokemon in a single battle instead of being restricted to just 3. Seriously, that reason alone is why I barely even TOUCH the Battle Tower.
Just today I was getting that strong Pokemon itch, and I remembered that Scarlet and Voilet come out soon (and in only a week I found out!). You putting out this video really puts the icing on the cake. After skipping Sword and Shield I'm very excited for a new generation!
Sword and Shield are great. It’s tied with my favourites HGSS. It just had a lot of overblown hate because of a bad tree texture and the double kick animation. There are loads of firsts for the series, and the characters are really well written. The DLC is also great and adds a lot of content. I’d recommend giving it a go!

Arlo, make your Mareep's Tera Type *Grass.* That way, if it Terastalizes, it will resist Ground-type attacks instead of being weak it them, land super-effective hits against many Ground-type Pokémon, and even have great type synergy with Fuecoco.
Terastalising is low-key more broken than Dynamax. It's more simple to understand yet so deadly and effective. Can easily see giving Pokemon that 3rd typing getting banned.
My hope for Scarlet & Violet is that you can play all three stories on the same playthrough of the game. I want to be able to do all of them and would hate to keep multiple save files for each story path.
I liked Sword & Shield. Not exactly a tough act for Scarlet & Violet to follow. Just make this game better than the last and I'll be satisfied. Bringing back XP candy from SwSh, more character customization, more ways to interact with your mons are my 3 wishes.
The whole game leaked online. I will say, you will like Scarlet/Violet much more than Sword and Shield - the pokemon, the names, the story; it's pretty comprehensive and I'm considering for the first time in these newer generation games going with a team made exclusively with the new generation's pokemon.
I got my copy of scarlet yesterday and i like the little details they added....like if your battling trainers or wild pokemon...other nearby wild pokemon will spectate the battle.
This might sound a bit weird but a lot of your wants can be solved in sword and shield. VGC was the kinda the post game for swsh for me and it was pretty cool. Vitamins gave me something to spend my money on end game to the point where I had to grind for it a few times. It's extremely challenging especially at high levels. The bottle caps in swsh function kinda like grit items in pla although the pokemon has to be lvl 100 for them to be used and they're never really explained. Honestly I've realized going into sv that I don't really care what the post game is like because the online is gonna be my post game again.
For what it was, Arceus was a great experience plaugued by poor graphical management, to a point it actively hindered the experience. Not bad graphics, bad performance. If Scarlet and Violet have better performance than that, with some of that core gameplay, we'll be fine.
@@clarencep90 I've done my far share of sucking, lol. When you actually sit down and just play Arceus for the first time, it catches you in immediately. Especially if you actually enjoy reading the story, it works really well. But by the time you go through it the 2nd time, you really start to see it's flaws. I still love the game and still willing to recommend it, but I'm not going to sit here and say it's a perfect game when it very much isn't.

About Legends Arceus Im with You on that, I hope that as much as possible has been preserved from it, and although the path through the gyms challenge looks very traditional, two other paths (team star and titans) interest me and I hope that they will surprise with some shake-up of the formula
Arceus was being developed at the same time as Scarlet/Violet. There will be some similarities. But aspects are not coming from Arceus. You'll see when you play the game. :/ I, too, thought Arceus was a good step in the right direction.
My one hope is a few options to go for besides Pokémon league champ I’d like to be like a professor assistant or something else heck a choice to be a trainer like hex maniac or a ranger or such would be cool
I just hope I like a lot of the new designs, I hope there’s a decent amount of endgame, I hope the battles are fun, and I hope the map is fun to explore
Look, I'm all for creative differences, but there has to be a consistency which ties it all in. I'm not going to lie to you my friend, but the consistency in the "new" pokemon designs are not there (when I say it will look whack, it's almost objectively true). And this will be evident when older pokemon designs show that simplicity and consistency are better to work with (the regional forms, paradox, etc.). Tldr: the actual "new" pokemon look very inconsistent to the point most look very unpokemon-like. This isn't to say there aren't fantastic designs because there are, but the majority are very miss, I hope this doesn't deter you though.

I am not a huge Pokémon fan like I know others are. Despite this, I really enjoy the idea these games present. There has been one thing I always wanted, but I know will never happen. I would love to see them give you the option to change what Pokéball your team is in after you have caught them. I love the designs of some of the Pokéballs over others and usually do not have enough of the ones I like to use them up trying to catch Pokémon with.
I want to see more Legends Arceus style of gameplay. I would also like to see 3 different paths with each starter so the game has replay ability as well as 3 separate stories too.
The thing that's gonna decide it for me is if the open world has anything to offer besides the pokemon them self. I want my "strengh-rocks" puzzles, my unown and regi-ruins. I want to have more than an map with pokemon spawns and random items placed all around. At least make the items good. Like hide a choice scarf somewhere for me to find instead of locking it behind the battle tower all the time...
Now that the game is out. Oh boy are we in for a doozy of an Arlo review. I can't believe they released the game like it is. ( Note: I'm not super far into the game yet this is not a gameplay complaint just the performance and frame rate are EXTREMELY distracting )
I hope for a insteresting world to be explored, nice landmarks, unexpected Places like caves, mountains, hidden towns, I hope that there are hard to find pokemon which you can run into unexpectedly, a polished story that compliments the exploration. I just want to be fully immersed in the exploration and walk around asking myself "What will I find next?" With a smile on my face.
So for me one thing I want is to have to go out of my way to find rare pokemon and im not talking about legendarys in sword and shield most pokemon are just sitting on the side of the road with no side areas to deep dive into to find them, it makes finding rare pokemon trivial and I remember I time (Old man talk time) when you had to go to the deepest part of metor falls to find Bagon or had to go to a secret cave found on the other side of a river in a route you already cleared when you got surf to find Axew. I feel like pokemon has kinda lost the art of the secret area even arceus didn't have any super secret caves dungeons or anything.

For me one of the best features in legends that kept me engaged where the pokedex task, it was fun to complete the pages with doing more than just capturing the pokemon. I hope that even if they aren't in SV, they would return in future games.

@@ivyproductions7097 It was a great feature, but I was a little dissapointed that there weren't some more unique tasks, wether they happen in side quests or not. Would be cool if there were things like seeing a pokemon find food in their own unique way, or like maybe all the zubat hang on ceilings in the day and you need to find them asleep and awake to complete the task, or like for grafaiai, finding actual grafaiai marks out in the world.
Stuff that requires a bit more then just throwing a lot of balls and evolving the same species 4 times.
that’s something i wouldn’t want in a mainline game, however it was my favourite feature in PLA, and i hope all future Legends games have that feature maybe even fleshed out some more such as raising a pokemon from its first form to its last (raising a pichu to a raichu) and stuff like that which i think would be fun
SV has 3 seamless storylines, of course numerous Side-Quests and then the whole Tera-raid aspect for Co-op party's.
No; We're not going to get 'N' number 2 and a Skyrim-beating storyline - but then Pooemon doesn't do that sort of thing: all that 'thick plot' from gen5 was mostly Reddit lore that was confirmed 10 years later.
It would be really cool in this game. It would also be the modern setting to do it in considering were students in a school. Even if it's just an extra credit thing that's only there for added benefits or personal choice.

My hope for Scarlet and Violet is that it’s actually good. We just had a big win in another divided community with Sonic Frontiers, so it’d be nice to have the same deal with Pokémon.

The reason why Frontiers it's such an experimental take on sonic was precisely because Forces was such a disaster that Sonic team had to do something a bit more creative and focused, granted because of the release date i'm sure it still had a bunch of crunch and thus didn't reach it's full potential.
But this won't happen with Pokemon. Every Pokemon game is a win, at least in the way where the company cares, that is, financially a win, which every Pokemon game is. Even as controversial as SwSh was, it still was the most sold pokemon game yet, and LA only had to fix a few times to "restore" people's faith on the franchise, so what this tells me is that we'll be going at a one step forward, two steps back kinda deal where GameFreak doesn't have to do much on improvements, and the games will still be successful.
Seeing this made me very happy, not specifically the video itself, but that I know for a FACT that Arlo will not just randomly show leaks that I've been avoiding like the plague. I can TRUST this blue creature to not randomly go "oh hey here's the final evolutions of the starters that were leaked" with little to no warning.

If you’ve never heard of him, he does Pokémon content and does an insanely good job covering tons of Pokémon news right when it comes out and and when dealing with spoilers he puts a very long warning and only covers them at the end of the video so people who are avoiding them still have some stuff to watch before clicking away. His content is amazing (and there’s a great chance you know him and this was for nothing lol)

After reviewing the leaks, the story here is a step above everything but Gen 5. If that's what you want you'll probably be happy. It's still not very difficult but literally no pokemon game has been difficult.

To put a long story short it was a lot of people arguing and being very mad about sword and shield. What a time it was…
The build up to Sword and Shield was quite a controversial time. Everybody was angry at the dex cuts and how GameFreak lied. Some people even decided to boycott the game. Obviously the boycott failed miserably because SwSh is the 2nd best selling Pokemon game of all time. But yeah, I feel like the Sword and Shield buildup was just filled with a lot of angry people.
@@basketman2517 I boycotted. Been w/ Pokemon since its inception. I do not own Swrd/Shld, haven't played them, don't plan to, and can't say that for any other mainline Poke-game.
The series chose stagnancy and lies in the Swrd/Shld era, and I didn't forget that.
That said, this game looks much improved, and Arceus likewise upped the bar for the developers, improving my attitude towards the series again. Thoroughly excited for Friday!
I think Open World IS the way to go for Pokemon's Main Series. Legends showed a lot of benefits to it even though it's technically spinoff territory, but the main series has always been focused on exploring and catching Pokemon and a lot of what it wants and the vibe it wants to give off is one of those things that fits with open world better than series' that are more story driven. It has the basic ingredients baked in that open world games benefit from, unlike Zelda which had to try to invent a lot of that stuff on the spot with Breath of the Wild, and people still debate some of those decisions.
One detail I hope this game can capitalize on (even though I'm not planning to get it personally) is good TRAVERSAL. It's the biggest thing the Breath of the Wild innovated on that influenced open world/zone games in recent years in a positive way, and with newer games letting you fly and dash and hover and zoom all over the place in increasingly cool ways, the player's motorcycle mons in this really need to deliver a fluid and fun traversal experience. I think that'll be a big component of success for it, and people could truly love it because it's an actual creature to bond with, which is actually fairly unique in this new era of high-traversal open world games. Maybe after this we'll see a new open world action or RPG game feature some rideable mounts/monsters as one of its main draws.
The thing im liking the most out of Pokemon sv is the fact that, based on what I already saw in leaked gameplay, the world feels alive. The Pokémon aren't just there but are also doing stuff. Some will be hanging on trees others will be walking on them, swimming in lakes, etc
Man I think literally every hope you had didn't come true.
Let's hope this becomes one of the greatest Pokemon games ever! 🤞

Yeah I think the past & future themes might be an intentional reference to that. One foot in the future, one stuck in the past. Kinda hope they'll be able to nail it down on the next mainline entry, but I'm not holding my breath.
We've actually had grit items since Pokemon Black and White with the Wings (feathers) that increase by 1 point, and the vitamins to do it by 10 points.
to be fair tho these were annoying to grind for. PLA grit items were just random pokemon drops which was way better imo.
I LOVED the research stuff in Arceus. I really hope that they carry that through - or at least announce the next Legends game soon with the same idea in it: it makes actually catching Pokemon fun. Arceus is the only Pokemon game I've ever completed the Dex for, and I think there's a lot of others who are the same.

I saw the leaks, and honestly… they’ve been doing a better job getting me hyped for the game than the actual official content lol. I won’t say anything ofc, but there’s this one absolutely SICK looking grass type pokemon I’m excited to learn more about…
That being said, the leaks are MASSIVE. If you don’t care much for whatever the hell is going on with SV though, I recommend looking into them as someone who did not give a single damn from the first trailer.
Edit: Oh, speaking of which- I actually really like the starter evolutions. For such mid first evolutions, I think Quaxly’s last evo in particular is my favorite, which is weird, bc I was 100% expected it to stay dead last. I’m very pleasantly surprised!

Disagree with Arlo on Arceus only having the graphics rushed. There were many obvious open world mechanics that have been a staple from Oblivion onwards that they didn’t do.
Example: You have to travel to the home town in order to move to a new area. Gets old real quick.

13:18 This is where I differ severely. I loved Black and White version because of its linear, story-driven structure. I can't imagine the story in this one will be all that interesting when the whole thing is free form and go wherever you want and do the gym leaders in any order. Open worlds just have too many trends that I'm sick of seeing, and the villain team being basically enemy camps is one of them.
I think it _could_ work (I think Breath of the Wild did story well), but I'm a bit worried about the three-pronged structure. Normal Pokémon already often feels disjointed because you've got two main plots going on that don't really connect (Black and White being the only games to combine the "become champion" and "beat the evil team" plots), and actually separating them might make it even worse.
It's a similar issue to Octopath Traveler. Even though the plots are related, because it's not made explicit, it just feels a little disjointed.
@@klop4228 I'm fine with disjointed if you pace them out decently. A balance of gym stuff, evil team stuff and then traveling to new routes stuff. You can make it flow to together nicely if it comes in a set order. But making it open ended usually means nothing can have a greater level of importance than anything else. Since you brought up BOTW I found the shrines and divine beasts pretty boring since they have a very flat progression curve, compared to dungeons in past Zelda games that get tougher the further you go.
I also didn't find the story very interesting, with each divine beast quest kinda feeling like the same thing over and over, and the rest was just optional flashbacks. The rest of the game is just wandering around collecting stuff until you feel like beating Ganon. I can't see that kind of thing working for Pokemon. Especially in a turn based rpg.
Having seen the story leaks it’s clear they worked on it this time around, I wish I wasn’t spoiled because the plot climax is really really cool imo. I think people will enjoy it
Story-driven game would be great but I feel like after BW they really dropped the ball with storytelling. SM/USUM had some decent plot-elements but personally I didn't like how it tried to tell the story. The cutscenes became longer and just repeated the same animations over and over.
Personally I feel the same about open world games. Open world games also get repetitive because its really hard to think of unique things to do for every area. Idk maybe its the games I've played but less open world games (or games trying to be open world but aren't actually) would be appreciated

I feel you on the Pokemon designs. I warmed up to the Sword and Shield designs, but I don't WANT to warm up to them. I want to see one and immediately add it to my team because I LOVE it.
The designs this generation are great honestly. There’s a lot of dog Pokémon which is always great
They're never going to get rid of status, EVs/IVs and abilities because of competitive players like myself and WolfeyVGC. But they can continue to improve on them for team building. Like I can see Frostbite and Drowsy sticking around over Freeze and Sleep. And as someone who is a competitive player, or wants to get back into it since I mostly stuck to online battling in SwSh, I am really hype for Terastallization.
It looks like a mix of Z moves, mega evolution, and GMax. With the type change that's the mega mechanic sticking around. With power ups that's GMax and Z moves. With it lasting the entire battle, also a Mega Mechanic. I don't know what it is about these games in particular that gets me so hype to try competitive battling again, but I am READY to dive back in and try to become the very best like no one ever was.
I think terrastalizing has more tactical potential than the other mechanics. I'm dying to try out some curse sets using terrastalizing to switch in/out of ghost type.

@@LaughingBat I love the fact that it looks like the gym leaders don't just have pokemon that ARE the normal type, but the TERA TYPE too. Like the grass leader having sudowoodo but the tera type is grass so it fits. That's genius. I hope EVERY Gym leader has that cause before, what always bugged me about the mechanic, was that the leaders didn't USE it. They fixed that after Gen 6. That was a MASSIVE mistake not having the gym leaders use mega evolution. But in Gen 7 the Island Kahunas used z moves, gym leaders in gen 8 used gmax and dmax for the most part, and now gen 9 I hope that trend continues.

12:45 Arlo, NEVER apologize for wanting more in a Pokémon game. GameFreak has been underperforming for a decade. It's the biggest franchise in the world and they have been consistently giving us games with cut mechanics, cut Pokémon, cut corners, and graphics that I would expect from an indie development team. You're not spoiled. You just have reasonable expectations and you're holding them to the standard that they themselves set back in the early 2000s.

I actually like EVs, but not how they’re handled.
It allows you to to “customize” a lot of Pokémon, and it prevents sweepers and wall breakers from being too tanky, and tanks from being too strong and fast.
It’s just an incredibly tedious method.
They should just let you customize them in a menu.
And they could keep the old method as well in case anyone actually wants to use that.
Auto battles and vitamins, though vitamins shouldn't be as expensive as they've always been

Honestly, I don’t really care about the games at this point. I think it might be franchise fatigue, but I’m not even gonna assume that the games will blow me away. I adored Legends Arceus, so one of the biggest worries I've had thus far about ScaVio is whether or not it will play like that. Fortunately, just about everything I loved about Arceus is coming back (minus the wild catching) which makes me very excited for next week.
I'm honestly hoping that the Battle Tower will let you use all 6 of your Pokemon in a single battle instead of being restricted to just 3.

Just today I was getting that strong Pokemon itch, and I remembered that Scarlet and Voilet come out soon (and in only a week I found out!).

Sword and Shield are great. It’s tied with my favourites HGSS.
It just had a lot of overblown hate because of a bad tree texture and the double kick animation. There are loads of firsts for the series, and the characters are really well written. The DLC is also great and adds a lot of content. I’d recommend giving it a go!

Arlo, make your Mareep's Tera Type *Grass.* That way, if it Terastalizes, it will resist Ground-type attacks instead of being weak it them, land super-effective hits against many Ground-type Pokémon, and even have great type synergy with Fuecoco.
Terastalising is low-key more broken than Dynamax. It's more simple to understand yet so deadly and effective. Can easily see giving Pokemon that 3rd typing getting banned.
My hope for Scarlet & Violet is that you can play all three stories on the same playthrough of the game. I want to be able to do all of them and would hate to keep multiple save files for each story path.

I liked Sword & Shield. Not exactly a tough act for Scarlet & Violet to follow. Just make this game better than the last and I'll be satisfied. Bringing back XP candy from SwSh, more character customization, more ways to interact with your mons are my 3 wishes.

This might sound a bit weird but a lot of your wants can be solved in sword and shield. VGC was the kinda the post game for swsh for me and it was pretty cool. Vitamins gave me something to spend my money on end game to the point where I had to grind for it a few times. It's extremely challenging especially at high levels. The bottle caps in swsh function kinda like grit items in pla although the pokemon has to be lvl 100 for them to be used and they're never really explained. Honestly I've realized going into sv that I don't really care what the post game is like because the online is gonna be my post game again.
For what it was, Arceus was a great experience plaugued by poor graphical management, to a point it actively hindered the experience. Not bad graphics, bad performance.
If Scarlet and Violet have better performance than that, with some of that core gameplay, we'll be fine.

@@clarencep90 I've done my far share of sucking, lol. When you actually sit down and just play Arceus for the first time, it catches you in immediately. Especially if you actually enjoy reading the story, it works really well.
But by the time you go through it the 2nd time, you really start to see it's flaws. I still love the game and still willing to recommend it, but I'm not going to sit here and say it's a perfect game when it very much isn't.

I got my copy of scarlet yesterday and i like the little details they added....like if your battling trainers or wild pokemon...other nearby wild pokemon will spectate the battle.

On the pack storage money thing, I gotta say Platinum had a great post-game usage for money in the villa you could get expensive furniture for to decorate.
After playing this game since launch hoooobooy are you gonna be disappointed.
About Legends Arceus Im with You on that, I hope that as much as possible has been preserved from it, and although the path through the gyms challenge looks very traditional, two other paths (team star and titans) interest me and I hope that they will surprise with some shake-up of the formula
Arceus was being developed at the same time as Scarlet/Violet. There will be some similarities. But aspects are not coming from Arceus.

Honestly, the littlest thing I'd like to see is the Gender Neutral Clothing Options with the fashion, just like with the faces and hair.
According to some potential leaks, the clothing customization is unfortunately very limited :( might not be gender neutral
It's unisex but it's all school uniforms with either shorts or pants. No skirts either. That's it.
I just hope I like a lot of the new designs, I hope there’s a decent amount of endgame, I hope the battles are fun, and I hope the map is fun to explore

Look, I'm all for creative differences, but there has to be a consistency which ties it all in. I'm not going to lie to you my friend, but the consistency in the "new" pokemon designs are not there (when I say it will look whack, it's almost objectively true). And this will be evident when older pokemon designs show that simplicity and consistency are better to work with (the regional forms, paradox, etc.).
Tldr: the actual "new" pokemon look very inconsistent to the point most look very unpokemon-like. This isn't to say there aren't fantastic designs because there are, but the majority are very miss, I hope this doesn't deter you though.

@@GottaLoveDepecheMode Yeah they're whack and interesting but every time a new generation comes people always say the new mons doesn't look like pokemon and then warm up to them

I have seen their evolutions, those are the only leaks I DELIBERATELY looked at, and I like Sprigatito and Fuecoco’s evos, don’t really care too much for Quaxly’s though
I am not a huge Pokémon fan like I know others are. Despite this, I really enjoy the idea these games present.
There has been one thing I always wanted, but I know will never happen. I would love to see them give you the option to change what Pokéball your team is in after you have caught them.
I love the designs of some of the Pokéballs over others and usually do not have enough of the ones I like to use them up trying to catch Pokémon with.
I want to see more Legends Arceus style of gameplay. I would also like to see 3 different paths with each starter so the game has replay ability as well as 3 separate stories too.
They already did the EV thing in Sword and Shield arlo, you can just use 26 of a Vitamin to the Pokemon and max out the stat
Based on having seen the leaks, I think Fuecoco is best pick for cool factor of the evos.
It's not my favourite but I agree its the "coolest" - the others excel in a different way
The cat is by far the coolest and the duck js interesting , the croc is very standard

The thing that's gonna decide it for me is if the open world has anything to offer besides the pokemon them self.
I want my "strengh-rocks" puzzles, my unown and regi-ruins.
I want to have more than an map with pokemon spawns and random items placed all around. At least make the items good. Like hide a choice scarf somewhere for me to find instead of locking it behind the battle tower all the time...
too bad overworld don't have puzzles. only pokemons, items lying around, and raid dens

Now that the game is out. Oh boy are we in for a doozy of an Arlo review. I can't believe they released the game like it is. ( Note: I'm not super far into the game yet this is not a gameplay complaint just the performance and frame rate are EXTREMELY distracting )

I hope for a insteresting world to be explored, nice landmarks, unexpected Places like caves, mountains, hidden towns, I hope that there are hard to find pokemon which you can run into unexpectedly, a polished story that compliments the exploration.
I just want to be fully immersed in the exploration and walk around asking myself "What will I find next?" With a smile on my face.

So for me one thing I want is to have to go out of my way to find rare pokemon and im not talking about legendarys in sword and shield most pokemon are just sitting on the side of the road with no side areas to deep dive into to find them, it makes finding rare pokemon trivial and I remember I time (Old man talk time) when you had to go to the deepest part of metor falls to find Bagon or had to go to a secret cave found on the other side of a river in a route you already cleared when you got surf to find Axew. I feel like pokemon has kinda lost the art of the secret area even arceus didn't have any super secret caves dungeons or anything.
