I’m sure it’s a dealbreaker for a lot of people who have pets to choose their pet over their partner (most times because the pet was there first)….but I will always agree that the pet is never the issue, it’s the person. So when the partner give the ultimatum between them and the pet, the relationship is over

She decided to move the cat tree further from the bed, and to try a white noise machine, she even tried to leave Milo out of the room for him like he wanted, and tried going to his place to sleep but it left her feeling guilty. She also recognized that she had contributed to Milo's bad habit of waking up at random hours asking for food and tried to change it so that his sleep would be better in the long run. But change with pets doesn't happen overnight. She gave it her best just as much as he gave it his. The only option left is feel guilty all the time for staying at his place 3-4 nights a week and not getting much sleep herself because of the guilt, giving the cat up for adoption, or they break up. She chose to break up because they were incompatible. He also tried just as hard, and that's great, but it still wasn'tenough. But nobody said he needs to stay over at her place on work nights, but he made that decision for himself even knowing the vat would be there and there was a chance the cat would ruin his sleep. I get loving a partner but it's still not a requirement for him to spend the night. And sure, maybe her place is closer to work than his, but that's still a problem that he should handle by moving closer to work. But either way, it was his choice to stay there, and he didn’t have to. A relationship also isn't the end all be all. Breakups happen. In this case, due to incompatibility. She moved onto another guy and he ended up wanting back according to the title. So if he felt the way you do that she was selfish even though she tried just as hard as him to make things work, then why would he bother to go back? I don't know about others so I'll only speak for my experiences, but the guys I've met don't want a partner who's selfish. So genuinely, why would he go back if he thought she was selfish?
@@allisonn6056 he didn't go back read to full story. She mostly give up on every process of compromise due to guilt which break the comprise only means boyfriend only sacrifice. Also boyfriend stay with her cause she didn't go to his house. He wanted to improve relationship while she was selfishly thinking about cat only. He clearly deserve better sleep or it could have caused help issues. She is wrong just because you have pet doesn't mean the pet owner is always right

I was raised by cats. Having a cat in my bed, on my lap, next to me. My mental health deteriorates when I am catless. I could never have a Shaun in my life.

I notice he gave her the ultimatum and then, was upset and unhappy with her for choosing the cat. Such an insecure person who becomes jealous of an animal would not be welcome in MY life at all.😮
He isn't insecure. He can't even sleep properly it can cause him health problems. Who will take the risk if he developed health problems? THE CAT? Also she is selfish cause she always stop her compromise in half way breaking her promise. She is insecure and insensitive
No one's at fault here. OP is allowed to have her cat with her and Shawn deserves a good night sleep. They each have their priorities and that's fine. While I'm the type of person who would choose my cat over a partner every time, I understand that there are people who just don't mesh well with pets. that doesn't mean they're bad people.

I don't understand how so many people are calling her selfish when she suggested they move the cat tree back away from the bed in hopes of decreasing the times the cat would jump onto the bed, they tried a white noise machine to try and help him sleep through the quieter cat noises. She realized she had accidentally created a problem where the cat would ask for food in the middle of tbe night, so she set on not reinforcing that behavior so the cat would stop asking for food in the middle of the night. She put the cat out of the room in hopes that would help him sleep, but she felt so guilty hearing the cat's cries to come back in. She even stayed at his place so he could get better sleep. It didn’t work out. So how is trying to work it out selfish when they ended up trying all the suggestions they could find except breaking up, rehoming the cat, and him spending more time at his place. Nobody said he had to stay with his girlfriend at her place, especially on the night he knew he would be giving a presentation the next day. He knew that he could potentially get horrible sleep because he had in the past. It almost feels intentional on his end. But why is he trying to start things by intentionally putting himself in a situation where he'd potentially not get good sleep? It makes me think he wanted to create an argument where he could ask her to choose between him or the cat; thinking somehow that because he wouldn't ever choose a pet over a partner that its normal and that most people would make the same decision.
My brother when he was staying at our place threatened to kill our cat when she was a kitten if he ever saw her. So we kept her in mine and my sisters shared bedroom at the time while he took over the living room. My brother has never threaten to harm a dog. So my brother favors dogs over cat. There are many more incidents that show my brother in a bad light. If you are curious just ask and I'll answer. My brother is an awful person.

Because of many reasons but one of them for what he has done well his new wife has done to my nephew his son and him basically denying my niece is his daughter even though she is his daughter she looks just like him. But my stepdad has been in contact with him because our mom has recently passed away. My brother is my half brother.
He should never of asked that if you like you said your kitty is family to me that's like telling who your allowed to talk to or telling your kids they are only allowed to play in their bedroom and not come out it's not fair to them and it's not fair to your kitty if you have kids and they keep him up at night is going to make you get rid of them or what would of happened if you had a baby when you met him when the baby woke him up at night would he of asked you get rid of your baby some people may say it's not the same but to is pet lovers our pets are more than just animals they are our family out kids you wouldn't choose someone else over your kids and you shouldn't over your pet either

My husband and I are cat people. We are comfy having 2 cats roaming around during the day. Even we sometimes look for them and carry them here and there
I am super grumpy when I moved without my cats (don't worry cats at my mum house not somewhere else). Then my bf make a trip for 16 hours to bring one of my cat to where we're staying. After few months 1 stray mom that we always feed give birth to 4 baby at our porch. Now we have a total 6 demons ❤❤❤

Definitely take the cat over him if never choose anyone over my kitty it's ignorant to ask you that especially your kitty was there first my kitty runs around and plays at night I just laugh and go back to sleep if you guys ever moved in together he'd probably want you to get rid of your kitty which isn't fair to you or your kitty even if he didn't and wanted you to confined him to just certain areas of the house that's really not fair to your kitty your kitty is used to sleeping with you next to you or somewhere close your boyfriend is the one disrupting your kitty's sleep I had one kitty would loved to wait until my wife went to sleep then I feel him come up the side of the bed cross my pillow and get between her head and the wall on her pillow she said she would wake up off her pillow and he would have the pillow all to himself she never once got angry at him for it we would just laugh and go back to sleep I think she used to love that he chose her to steal the pillow from
Its not fair for him to treat ur pet like something disposable, pets are fur babies and he doesn't get that. I do think she could have stayed at his house more often to try to compromise in some way, but at the end of the day they dont seem compatable and dont have the same pet values

OP is the AH, she thought some solutions but admits she didn't even try them because she thought they wouldn't work. basically that''s when she gave up the relationship: she stopped trying to find a compromise, she made the choice and chose the cat. I love animals(i've a dog that it's been with me since i was 14, and now i'm 30, my best friend, i literally become the most annoying jerk on earth without him, and i know, due to moving i had to let him stay with a friend for like a week...saying that i was in a bad mood, it's the understatement of the month, people in my family noticed easy it was to piss me off, over anything really) but if my partner has these issues, i would insist in finding solutions, and only when i'm out of ideas, i would make the choice. Sure the boyfriend ended up crawling back...but he shouldn't have spit on his own pride and dignity over OP, she is not partner-material.
They ended up sitting down and talking and she brought those up and they gave them a try. She even tried to keep her cat out of the room which caused the cat to meow all night, but she stuck with it to try to train it for her partner's comfort. Nobody ever said he had to spend the night there. And the solutions were working to some degree. It ended up where the cat would sleep with both of them in their bed purring, which the boyfriend admitted made him sleep well. But then one night, he stayed over the night before a presentation at work and he got horrible sleep. He knew he had a presentation the next day, yet he chose to sleep where he knew he might not get good sleep when his place would have done fine? That's a poor decision on his end, how is that OP's fault? Op also stayed at his place so he could get his sleep but felt guilty the entire time and didn't sleep herself. If they did that 3-4 nights a week, it would be the same situation except she'd be the one without sleep. It's not selfish or her fault that they just weren't compatible. If he wants someone who doesn't have a pet, those people exist, and he'd be happier with a woman who doesn't have any. And she'd be happier with a man who's an animal lover. They had mutually decided to split up after both tried equally hard. I fail to see how she doesn't care, especially when it was mutual.
In your opinion, should she have just immediately gotten rid of the cat for a guy? Should she forever feel guilty that she got rid of her cat because of him?
Basically the whole story was The op was selfish while boyfriend did his best even in those days where he couldn't sleep properly after really hard work even the day of presentation.Op refused to compromise . Boyfriend can do better without her .
No, the boyfriend was selfish. OP was willing to compromise but it sounded like the boyfriend wanted OP to get rid of the cat but he didn’t out rightly said it. The cat was there first and this is still a new relationship.. if anything, the boyfriend is in the wrong since he decided to pursue a relationship with OP knowing that she had a pet and he doesn’t like pets. I feel bad for you and I hope you don’t have any pets knowing that you would probably get rid of them if your partner asked you to.
