I loved how Ma long reacted after his victory.. He seems so happy to win the match altough he had a nasty knee injury. Congratulations to Ma long, The dictator, The captain of all of our hearts.
His mental game is what sets Ma Long apart. Despite being injured, playing at only 70%, getting two fault service calls with unsuccessful reviews at crucial moments of the game he still pulled through against one of the top players.
He has already proved time and time again that he is GOAT. Still he has such a passion for the sport and continues to fight. He is called GOAT because he can change his tactics according to the opponent and execute his own plan. And as he plays more tournament/matches he gets more and more confident and reaches another level. Truly, he is the greatest to play the sport🙌

It looked like Hari was going to run away with it, but also he probably draws confidence in knowing that he's had Hari's card for a while now. I think those assurances are harder when it's someone's game you may not know very well.

I think that because of knee injury ma long has more difficulty moving to hit forehand but I also think that because of that he has been training and improving his backhand. Does anyone else agree?
ML's BH has always been very powerful. Take a look at 2016 Rio final. His BH was just as crazy as FH. But he's getting older and weaker. Knee surgery will happen after NY so he's still not at 100%.
It was tough match . Sometimes skills are not enough at that moment you need a bit of luck or mental strenght and keep calm and focused . Ma Long played great and this wasn't enough , Liang played excellent and din't do anything wrong yet the Dragon create some stunning moments and the table turns in his favour just a fraction . There's why he celebrates on a high adrenaline note. Congrats to the winner ! Hard but deserved WIN !
The umpire system needs to change. Seems like they are calling service faults randomly. ML gets called but then just does the same serve for the rest of the match. Perhaps we should just the computer call service faults, so that at least it is consistent?
Every serve should be reviewed somehow and regardless of the outcome of the rally, the fault player should lose the point. No more warnings. Haha table tennis, only professional sport with redos.
Lawrence Yi Basketball’s instant replays changing goaltending calls and whether a 2 is actually a 3 pointer, football’s VAR changing handball calls and it’s “goal-line technology”. Redos are everywhere in sports, and they’re needed.

ML has problems covering his forehand side in a fast ball rally due to aging or injury. So he had to slow the game down and look for opportunities in the slow rally. He succeeded.
ML fought hard through the match but when crunch time came he turned it up to another level as all champions do. They have this overdrive gear that kicks in when the pressure is on.

Good flow of rallies in this match. A pleasure to watch. Ma is slowly returning to his form, though he is a tad slower than normal covering the extreme forehand. I think Liang should've gone there more often, i.e. down the line with his backhand.

Seems like LJK could have "exploited" ML injury and played more to the FH and encouraged loop to loop rallies. LJK could sucked into to too many BH to BH rallies. For instance, he could have served fast down the line a few more times.
Jingkun played smart. His advantage if any is his backhand and opening backhand flick. Ma Long has the deadliest forehand of all time. You don't want to feed Ma Long's forehand. Too bad one of these competitors had to lose.

One of the best matches I have ever seen. The tension was palpable. The effort they can strain their bodies to is unreal.

Why was it an illegal serve? The ball drop angle was visible to Ma Long during the serve. Are you suggesting it was blocked by Liang?
