  • With a bit of work I make the San Mai III TrailMaster knife fit into the O1 TrailMaster sheath. A cheaper option to replace your Trail Master San Mai III sheath with another Cold Steel Sheath.

I must agree about the sheath - it IS crap! When I got mine, not only was it crap, but the upper rivet had, after even mild usage, pulled though, and the stitching had begun to come undone. I sent it back to the supplier (Heinie Haynes Knives, in Wales, UK) and their service was excellent, and the knife replaced pronto, free of charge. A shoutout to a guy there called Richard. Thanks man.
However, I immediately put the sheath in the box, without it ever being used.
I then decided to approach a TH-camr, Rob Evans, also from Wales, and ask if he could do me a proper leather sheath, and of course he said yes. I took delivery less than a week later and it's a gem. Really chuffed with the sheath. Thanks Rob! So my pride and joy is complete.

That's why I'm a leather crafter and make high quality sheaths to replace crap sheaths that come with top knives. That way I have sheaths that no one else has.

I’ve recently made my own sheath. I like it.

It is pretty common to have to grind down those 4 nubs a little on the Secure-Ex sheaths to loosen up the retention a bit. I recently did that to the sheath of a brand new CS Marauder. I used a dremel tool, which made it easy to do. Lots of Secure-Ex sheath haters in these comments, holy crap. I love 'em and have not experienced the issues mentioned.

One way to increase retention on your new sheath if necessary, is install a small bolt, washer, and nut into the hole closest to the top of the sheath. Test it before tightening it all the way down. You may not need to tighten it much.
Apply lock tight to keep it where you have adjusted it to.
    Peace

Kydex is worse, you get grit in and it will scratch your knife to shit. Mine looks heavily used just taking it in and out of the sheath. So i drilled the the eyelets out and used Chicago screws instead so i can clean the sheath out. To tighten the securex sheath just put it iin hot water and shape. Loosen or tighten. If you want to thrash, buy a f---king axe. Then the knife will be used as it is supposed to be used, and last a lifetime!

@@RogerF oh no that's no good for me I just bought mine if I knew that I'd rather have waited lol do you know if its still going to be made in japan or taiwan like alot of their stuff seems to be moving to

    • @RogerF

I read they’ll make them in their “state of the art” Taiwan factory. The new version will be made of A-2 steel. I saw a break test of the Natchez Bowie A-2 steel and it was impressive. I think they bent it up to 55 degrees before it snapped.

I like the cordura sheath , although it don't own that knife or sheath ,
but it do own the secure-ex sheath and 01 model of that knife. Glad you made it work for you because to that a experience blade and they should offer it in a leather sheath, IMHO ⚖️🪖⚖️

I definitely agree, a leather sheath would be great. I always prefer leather with most knives. Thanks for watching!
