Thank you for the stream! About the two types of approach to linguistics you mentioned at 12:46, it's actually Descriptive vs Prescriptive! The 'Prescriptive approach' prescribes how you 'should' speak language to be grammatically correct, but the 'Descriptive approach' descibes and models how we actually do speak language. How language is taught at schools to children can be and mostly is super prescriptive, but as a linguist I can say that with a Linguistics degree there's a heavy emphasis on doing Descriptive linguistics
